Chapter 75 - Chapter 74 The Silver Twins

Chapter 74 The Silver Twins

"Your Highness, the situation is not very optimistic." Maester Viserys sighed as he walked out. Time had not left many marks on his face, only making his already long and messy beard even longer and more unkempt. "Although my lady is not giving birth at a dangerous age, and her physical strength is still good, she is, after all, carrying twins."

Before the old maester could finish speaking, a heart-wrenching scream erupted from the delivery room. Dragonzel's heart trembled.

"Who's inside now?"

His feelings for Diana were quite complex; rather than love, they were more like partners—friends bound by trust. Over the years, they had given each other respect and support, and at the very least, they had lived happily.

Until this moment.

Until Diana bore their children in unbearable pain.

"Lord Zesar, and Lady Leila, Your Highness. My lady can only find some relief by holding Lady Leila's hand now." Maester Viserys nervously glanced toward the chamber. Diana's cries rang out again. Because she carried twins, she could not give birth standing and could only lie on the bed, enduring the agony.

"Brother!"

Leila Celtigar rushed out with a grave expression. Compared to Valarr, who loved dragons and weapons, Leila—though she respected and cared for her husband—preferred the gentle and intelligent Diana. The two women had quickly become close confidantes, often inspecting Summerhall's construction together, reading in the grand library of Laurel Leaf Tower, and reviewing the family's accounts side by side.

And now, they faced this ordeal together.

"How is it?" Dragonzel asked anxiously.

Leila shook her head. "Both children are very healthy—but too healthy. Lord Zesar does not dare use the anesthetic from Yi Ti. He fears that too much will harm the children and leave the mother without the strength to deliver them."

"Is there any other way?" Dragonzel's gaze remained fixed on the chamber. Another weak cry came from within, and Leila quickly rushed back inside.

Diana lay weakly on the bed, blood still flowing beneath her. Sweat soaked her white gown as if it had been drenched in water. Several midwives hurriedly replaced silk cloths and brought hot water. Lord Zesar Weaver, stern-faced, assisted the delivery alongside them.

Seeing Leila return, Zesar frowned and approached her, lowering his voice. "Did His Highness agree to that method?"

Leila ignored him and rushed to Diana's side, gripping her hand tightly. "Sister, we're all here. Hold on—just a little longer."

Diana panted weakly. "Dragonzel… Dragonzel… Ah!"

The pain overwhelmed the small dose of Yi Ti anesthetic. She tightened her grip on Leila's hand.

"Mother… Mother…" Tears filled her eyes as she gasped for breath.

Outside the door, Maester Viserys lowered his voice. "Your Highness… Lord Zesar and I have prepared a last resort—cutting open the womb to remove the children. The Citadel's method is not certain, but Zesar's eastern techniques may increase the mother's chances."

"What are you saying?" Valarr snapped, barely restraining himself from grabbing the maester's beard.

Ray looked at him coldly. "Maester… are you trying to kill my sister-in-law?"

"I would never dare," Viserys replied. "But this is the last option. The children are strong—we can ensure their survival."

"There is no need for such trouble," Dragonzel said coldly. "Prepare a brazier."

Viserys froze, then hurried away with two midwives, moving faster than anyone expected of a man his age. Soon, Hofa and Ago brought in a brazier.

Dragonzel gestured for it to be placed inside. He took a piece of charcoal and lit the chamber's hearth.

"Your Highness, the smoke—" Zesar realized immediately what Dragonzel intended, but continued assisting Diana.

"Dragonzel… save me… save the children…" Diana's voice was faint as a whisper.

"You will be fine. And so will our children," Dragonzel said softly, wiping the sweat from her brow. "Do not forget—I am a Blood Mage."

He placed his hand over her swollen abdomen. Silver-tinged blood seeped from his fingers, soaking into her skin.

Diana trembled as the crushing pain began to fade.

"Leila."

At his signal, Leila stepped back toward the window.

"Valarr—Silver Blood!"

Valarr rushed in and handed over the Valyrian steel sword. Dragonzel lightly drew the blade across his palm, then held his bleeding hand above the brazier.

As the blood fell, the flames surged violently.

They twisted, stretched—alive.

Threads of fire crawled outward like living things, slithering toward Diana.

Her eyes widened.

The first thread entered her body.

Warmth spread through her womb. The agony melted away like frost under sunlight. More fiery threads followed, weaving into her body.

Exhaustion overwhelmed her.

"Don't sleep," Dragonzel whispered, gripping her hand. "It will be over soon."

"The child is out!" an elderly midwife cried. "The boy is first!"

Blood flowed as the newborn was lifted and cleaned.

"Wah!"

The child cried loudly, his faintly opened eyes revealing deep purple irises, his head covered in soft silver hair.

"A healthy boy, Your Highness—you have an heir!" Zesar announced, cutting the cord.

Moments later—

"A girl!" another midwife shouted.

Ray nearly leapt in excitement. "Valarr, I'm an uncle!"

"Am I not?" Valarr punched him lightly as both tried to push into the room.

The girl had silver-gold hair and a strong cry. Viserys cut the cord and examined her.

"My lady," he said, looking at Diana, "both children are extremely healthy. I have never seen such newborns."

"Let me see them…"

The babies were brought to Diana. She smiled faintly, touching their tiny noses—then her hand fell weakly.

Zesar rushed forward.

"Do not worry," Dragonzel said calmly. "She is only exhausted."

His wound had already healed.

"Take her to a clean chamber and change her clothes."

"Yes, Your Highness."

"Brother," Ray asked eagerly, "what are their names?"

Dragonzel nodded, his gaze fixed on the children.

"The boy shall be named Lingor—after the Lost Dragon, and the greatest patriarch of our family, the Bronze Dragon King Lingor, once Archon of ancient Valyria."

"And the girl—Samantha. That was Diana's wish."

"Good names," Valarr said.

At that moment, voices echoed from the corridor—

"My Lord! The dragon egg has hatched!"
