The voice of the Reflection Well had come from inside Elara.
"Call your witness."
The sentence did not sound loud inside the Body Room. But it had silenced every line. Red fire, blue path, and darkened moonlight had drawn back for an instant. Only the orange line on Elara's wrist was burning. Small, fragile, but stubborn.
Elara stood at the edge of the water.
Kael and Rowan waited outside the threshold in silence, like two separate statues. Kael's silence was suffering. Rowan's silence was holding itself back. Both of them were looking at Elara, but neither of them was calling her toward himself.
Maybe that was the first thing the Reflection Well wanted. A waiting that did not possess.
