From the Destruction Lord Kiana Onward: Grandly Shaping History
Inside the Path Interstice of Nihility.
The moment that answer took clear shape in her mind, Kallen felt an absurd rush of disbelief.
What the hell was this supposed to mean?!
She had spent a full 200,000 points, arrived full of anticipation at what she thought would be the Path Interstice of Preservation to receive Qlipoth's blessing, and then—
And then she had landed on IX's turf?
No, seriously, what kind of scam was this? The goods clearly didn't match the order!
But then again, judging from the identity description, this new form actually seemed strangely well-suited to what she needed.
Kallen (Preservation?): A cast-off shell once shed by Qlipoth due to Nihility. After gaining humanity, her purpose became to stain Preservation with Nihility.
Kallen stared at the question-mark-ridden identity description on the system panel for a long while.
"To stain Preservation with Nihility?"
Her tone was complicated.
What was that even supposed to mean? Was this system trying to make her a double agent?
What exactly had this "identity correction" corrected her into?
The system seemed to sense her confusion, and another line of explanation appeared.
Identity Notes: Qlipoth once shed part of its shell after gazing into Nihility. Those cast-off fragments fell into the Void, and over countless years gradually developed an independent consciousness.
You are both a fragment of Preservation and a creation born of Nihility. Your existence itself is a mockery of both Paths.
You possess neither Preservation's lofty righteousness nor Nihility's conviction that all things are meaningless. What you want is simply rebellion against Preservation.
Kallen: "..."
Good grief.
Now she fully understood.
This was no proper Emanator of Preservation at all. This was obviously some kind of hybrid Path freak—one with a rebellious streak to boot.
Or perhaps there was a more fitting way to describe it.
An Emanator of Nihility aligned with Preservation.
The more she thought about it, the more it really did have that sort of flavor. Hell, maybe that old Fraud King should just retire and let her take his place.
After all, she already had connections on the Destruction side. Becoming some privileged insider wouldn't be hard—
No, what the hell was she even thinking?!
There was definitely something wrong with this setup!
"So... Qlipoth didn't refuse to come see me. It's that he couldn't come, right?" Kallen looked around again. "Because this Path Interstice isn't even his territory?"
She took a deep breath, forcing down the absurdity churning inside her.
Two hundred thousand points, and she had bought herself a traitor identity.
One born with betrayal already written into its bones.
Could it be because she had been giving Nihility too much screen time lately?
The more Kallen thought about it, the more plausible that seemed.
But then, on second thought, this wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
After all, hadn't she just been thinking that she needed an identity to play the villain?
Well, now the system had practically laid the whole thing out for her. It looked like the targets of her betrayal could only be the IPC or Preservation itself.
A so-called Emanator of Preservation, who in some sense was literally part of Qlipoth, yet who wanted to corrupt Preservation with Nihility.
If the IPC's fanatical Preservation believers ever found out, they would probably go insane on the spot.
Maybe she could even make use of Oswaldo.
At the thought of the Market Development Department's director, a meaningful smile curled at Kallen's lips.
"...Fine."
She rolled her wrist.
"Since I'm already here, I might as well test what this body can actually do."
She raised a hand, and Oath of Judah responded at once.
The golden cross unfolded behind her, and twelve chains extended like living limbs through the void. At the end of each one hovered a sharp lance of light.
The power of Preservation flowed through them—heavy, solemn, majestic.
But Kallen could feel that beneath that solemnity lurked something else.
It was the aura of Nihility.
A more hidden, more dangerous presence, lying beneath the radiance of Preservation like a patient hunter waiting for the right moment.
Kallen withdrew the chains, thoughtful.
She had a rough grasp of this identity's role now.
In direct combat, she was a genuine Emanator of Preservation, able to tank and fight alike.
But if she wished, then with a single thought, those apparently indestructible forces of Preservation could instantly transform into the erosion of Nihility.
Kallen's smile faded, her gaze turning deep and cold.
The Charmony Festival at Penacony was about to begin. The IPC was watching hungrily, while every faction was making moves.
Under those circumstances, an identity that looked like an Emanator of Preservation on the surface but secretly wielded the authority of Nihility could do a great many things.
"Not bad."
Kallen nodded in satisfaction.
"These 200,000 points weren't wasted."
And just then, as if because Kallen had finally adapted to everything this identity was, the stalled system progress bars began moving again.
Identity historical correction progress: 90%...100%Abundance authority elevation: 90%...100%
Kallen correction manifested.
Special Ability Acquired: Universal Adaptation.
Other than one-hit-kill attacks, all damage can gradually be adapted to, eventually achieving complete immunity.
Looking at the new ability, Kallen was slightly surprised.
That skill felt awfully familiar. Had they even paid the copyright fees to the series next door...?
Still, the ability really did suit her.
Other than lethal one-shot attacks, everything could be adapted to.
Given Kallen's identity, even if she had been tainted by Nihility, her essence was still primarily rooted in Preservation.
And if she was Preservation, then obviously she ought to be the kind of character built around absurd defense.
Yet just as Kallen was about to spend some more time trying out her new account—
Boom!
At the edge of the Path Interstice, a fissure was suddenly torn open.
Golden light poured through the裂隙, standing in stark contrast against the gray gloom of the Void.
That light was heavy, ancient, and carried a kind of authority that instinctively made one want to bow.
Kallen's eyes sharpened.
She recognized it.
That was the aura of Preservation.
The fissure widened.
Then, a colossal figure stepped through from the crack into this domain of Nihility.
The Aeon of Preservation, Qlipoth.
Kallen recognized him at a glance.
This Aeon resembled a moving wall—simply standing there gave the impression of something immovable, something that could never be shaken.
And yet now, this old cosmic mason had actively torn open space itself and stepped into IX's territory.
Kallen's breath hitched slightly.
Because it was obvious.
He had come for her.
Under normal circumstances, she would not have been worried. After all, when Cecilia had undergone correction before, Yaoshi had also shown up in person.
But today's situation was different.
Cecilia had been Yaoshi's child.
What was Kallen, then?
She was a traitor.
Qlipoth's gaze fell upon her.
There was no scrutiny in it. No questioning. No particular emotional fluctuation at all.
He simply looked.
Looked at a fragment he had once shed, and perhaps also at a being who was tied to him and yet separate from him.
Silence.
Long, immeasurable silence.
This Path Interstice of Nihility had already been as quiet as a ruin.
Now, with Qlipoth's arrival, that silence became heavier still.
So... what exactly had he come here for?
Enough time had already passed, yet Qlipoth had made no move whatsoever.
An absurd possibility rose in Kallen's mind.
Had Qlipoth torn open reality and come to this piece of Nihility just to... take one look at her?
Kallen felt what was hidden within that gaze.
It was not fatherly affection, nor was it the appraisal of a superior toward a subordinate.
It was the instinct of Preservation itself.
What did Qlipoth preserve?
He preserved the boundary of the universe, the wall that separated what lay within from what lay beyond.
And Kallen—this being born from a shell he had once cast off—was, in a sense, also something he had once preserved.
Even if that part had now been tainted by Nihility. Even if it had developed an independent consciousness. Even if it no longer belonged wholly to Preservation.
Qlipoth still looked.
He looked once.
And then—
He turned away.
Behind him, the fissure reopened, and the golden light gradually withdrew.
Qlipoth left behind no words. No explanation. He did not even spare Kallen another glance.
He had merely come to confirm.
To confirm that this fragment he had once shed still existed.
To confirm that it had not yet been completely swallowed by Nihility.
And once that was settled, it was enough.
The Path Interstice of Nihility returned to silence.
Kallen stood there for a long while, saying nothing.
"...That's it?"
At last, she couldn't help speaking aloud, her voice unnaturally clear in the empty expanse.
"You tore open space, came all the way here, looked at me once, and then just turned around and left?"
However, just as Kallen thought that was all—
Dong.
A deafening sound of impact rang out.
It was as though the blow had come from the very foundation of the cosmos.
But as an employee of the IPC, Kallen recognized that sound immediately.
It was the hammer strike of Qlipoth, forging the wall of the world—the purest manifestation of the Path of Preservation.
Every time that strike sounded, it marked the beginning of a new Amber Era.
By all conventional reckoning, the universe should currently have only just entered the 2159th Amber Era.
So why had it sounded now?
According to all records, the length of each Amber Era had always varied—but even the shortest interval between them had been no less than seventy-six years.
It seemed that this old construction-working Aeon had not been quite as indifferent to her as she had feared.
After all, that hammer-strike was not confined to this Path Interstice alone. At that very moment, both Kiana and Cecilia's side would also be hearing it.
Still, Kallen did not find this feeling of being watched particularly comforting.
If it had been Nanook or Yaoshi, she could at least have accepted it calmly.
But Kallen's position was just too awkward.
She genuinely feared that this identity she had spent twenty painstakingly hoarded points correcting would end up being judged an aberration by Qlipoth and disposed of on the spot.
Fortunately, this time Qlipoth really did seem to have left.
Until Kallen withdrew from the Interstice, he made no further move at all.
