Henrik had a sudden confidence in his heart
Give him enough time and give him enough resources the area around this could be turned into a death trap.
And if the enemy uses the hills as like connecting points and given command, they could coordinate from the five hills to attack and defend
"There is many such historical example of a small force using terrain to defeat stronger cavalry armies"
A few examples of such battle come to his mind
Robert The Bruce used marshy ground and narrow approaches to prevent English knight from charging effectively in the Battle of Bannockburn
That was the decisive victory for Robert Bruce and it is a major turning point in the war which would lead to the de jure restoration of the Scottish Independence
Battle of Agincourt also uses narrow muddy ground and defensive stakes. the French knight become trapped and unable to manoeuvre.
Battle of Morgarten was fighting in narrow mountain pass, attacking from slopes, rolling rocks and logs down on the enemy
Yes, Henrik might not learn ancient medieval tactic, but he does know history. Every once in while the Discovery channel would air this kind of thing or sometimes, he saw it in YouTube.
When this happens, he usually watches the video until the end.
So, while he did not formally learn military strategy of the medieval era, he does know the general way of certain strategy and how it is employed.
The rebel army if it could be regrouped could take the hill.
The cavalry forces cannot charge easily, enemy forces are forced into narrow columns.
The arches have shelter, and elevation as advantage, hidden fights can ambush from nay sides, creating confusion, panic and chaos in the enemy forces and retreat become difficult for the attackers the more you fight, the more you could not extricate yourself.
This is the kind of war that could destroy the knights and cavalry
In the battle of Morgarten, one thousand five hundred peasants destroy the myth of knight's invincibility
One thousand five hundred peasants annihilated nine thousand knights
However, to recreate such battle is not possible. In the battle of Morgarten, there is lake on one side, mountain on the other and an army basically marching into a natural guillotine.
This place is different. Five or six prominent hills surrounding a flat area like a gulf-like structure.
There is no lake. And there is no mountain. The army both the nobles and the rebels are scattered
But just using these hills as defensive places even two or three hundred rebels could delay or damage one thousand noble army in this kind of terrain.
The hill itself the is rear guard.
Henrik had all of these thoughts and then he shakes his head
"I need people and time to do all of these" he thought to himself.
"Then we must hold this position to have a chance for tomorrow"
He mutters these words.
This time he is confident.
For any chance for him to survive this war and understand the things that is happening to him he must first defend this place.
Only by defending this place, he had a chance to survive.
Even if he survives for one day, that would be enough for now.
Yes, this is the saddest thing about his situation right now.
He had died around eleven times
But he never passes this day. It did not even take hours from him spawning in that muddy area before being killed.
This is the first time that he had escape that area. Of course, after escaping that area, he thought he could go to other places and make a run for it.
But now, looking at it, this place…. this place is a place of death. But also, the only place where he could find the chance of survival.
In the forest, in the rear, in the front, all of them is like a death trap
And Henrik somehow understand something about life and death in such a situation.
Sometimes, only when you have the determination to overcome the fear of death, face death in the face that you might found that sliver of chance to survive.
And that is what he intends to do right now.
Face death and break through it.
He looks around once again and he close his eyes for moment
'I need to try to remember this" he might not have photographic memory but it does not mean he had a bad memory.
He wanted to remember which hills is easily defended, which hill would be a death trap for him and which place held could held most defensively
Henrik look at Miklos and he said under his breath
This place controls the rear.
Not, it could not be said that this place controls the rear
The more accurate way to describe it, is the fact that this place if not defended could bring panic to the main force and jeopardies the rear
The fact that the main army let this place to be defended and make sure the main forces back is around this area means they views this place with great strategic importance.
Maybe the line extends even further but Henrik could not know this unless he is part of the people making the plans.
He could just try to deduce things from what he could see and from what he knows. There is also a chance that he is wrong and nothing he speculated is right.
But that is the only thing he could do right now
At least if he uses this kind of deduction, he could make a move and create something resembling a plan.
Regardless of how this place become the rear or whether it is the rear or not originally, it is without a doubt now that this place now guarded the back of the main army
"If this place is breached…then the main force would be attacked from both side" he mutters
Miklos look at him and there is a trace of shock but Miklos quickly school his face again
But Henrik saw it.
And his eyes narrow
There is a reason why Henrik told Miklos this.
If he wanted things to go as the way he wants, he needs to show to Miklos that he knows what he is talking about.
Only by making Miklos believe that he is no mere greenhorn, that he would have the right to speak
Henrik knows his position.
Miklos took him because he could fight.
This is Henrik ability that he honed by himself.
Even in his original world, Elias not Henrik, but Elias did not have many abilities…. if you could call it that
He did not come from a rich family. While he did go to university, he is not like a genius. Mediocre in many cases. Not a mathematician. Not an IT guy.
He is also not that athletic.
He could play football and he could play sports but if it was competitive, he would not stand a chance against those sportsmen. But he had one thing that everyone around him acknowledge.
He knows people.
What does this mean?
He could ascertain people intention.
it is not like some kind of supernatural ability. He just observes people more intently than others.
He observes facial expression, their body language, their eyes, listen to their words and look at their action and with all of this he could judge a person.
There is a lot you could see in people if you observe them
Whether that person is good or evil, whether he is useful or not. This is one of his talents. The ability to know people.
Miklos also is looking at the hills now that he saw Henrik is looking at the hills.
Henrik on the other hand is thinking something else now
What Henrik is worried about is not that they would be attacked from both sides.
"If only…. there is a leader that could." and he sighed
If the rebel leader is determined and managed to unify the hearts of these people to fight for him, even if they are peasant, they could give this royal army a run for their money. Because they have the number son their side.
As long as the casualty is enough, then the noble army would have to retreat
From what he understands of medieval warfare, medieval warfare rarely last long. Though he did not know whether he could use that logic in this world.
After all, the knowledge he has of this world is quite…. minimal
Henrik shakes his head and said to everyone
"We need to gather the forces that could gather and defend a point" this is Henrik suggestion.
"How about going down and join the main forces?" Henrik look at the different direction, looking down the hill and he shakes his head
"What are your orders?"
Henrik suddenly said.
"I don't know" hearing this Henrik could only sighed
"What did your leader told you to do?"
"We were defending one of the passages before we are scattered by a powerful force" Henrik did not intend to interrogate the man and he did not intend to waste time here
"Now, if we run to the main force, what if we are charged with deserting? Or what if are called traitors? Then they would borrow our heads to increase morale or deter people" The other listen and they nodded
Miklos hearing Henrik words could not help but feel the way Henrik spoke, there is some interesting words he said
Borrowing heads.
That is a novel term
