Chapter 11 (Continued): The Blue-Eyed Monkey Incident

(Jay's POV)

I was still in shock.

A baby had betrayed me.

"Smol! Smol!" Jules clapped happily in Mom's arms.

Aries fell off the couch laughing.

"I can't breathe!"

Percy pointed at me dramatically.

"The truth has finally been spoken!"

"YOU TRAINED HER!" I accused.

Percy looked offended.

"Excuse me. That child is simply intelligent."

I crossed my arms and glared at the tiny traitor.

"Jules… we were friends."

The baby just smiled at me like she had no regrets.

Dad walked into the kitchen shaking his head.

"I'm starting to understand why the neighbors look at our house like it's a circus."

Mom handed Jules back to Liza.

"Maybe we should give them snacks before they start another war."

Liza laughed.

"I think the war already started."

Aries suddenly stood up with a dangerous look in his eyes.

"Oh no."

Percy instantly backed away.

"That face means trouble."

Aries walked toward Jules slowly.

"Hello little one."

Jules stared at him curiously.

He bent down dramatically.

"Let me teach you something new."

I gasped.

"Don't you dare."

Aries pointed at me.

"Say… short bean."

I lunged at him instantly.

"ARIES!"

He ran across the living room while I chased him.

Dad sighed from the kitchen.

"Here we go again."

Percy grabbed popcorn from the counter and sat on the couch.

"Best show in town."

I finally tackled Aries onto the couch.

"You are DONE."

He laughed.

"You can't defeat a giraffe."

"STOP CALLING YOURSELF THAT!"

Suddenly a tiny giggle echoed behind us.

We both froze.

Jules had crawled onto the floor and was waddling toward Percy.

Percy blinked.

"Uh… hello?"

Jules looked up at him seriously.

Then she pointed.

"Monke."

Aries started screaming with laughter again.

"THE BABY REMEMBERS!"

Percy stood up in betrayal.

"THIS IS CHARACTER ASSASSINATION."

Jules clapped happily again.

"Monke! Monke!"

Mom walked in holding a tray of snacks.

"Oh dear."

Dad looked at Percy.

"You've been officially named."

Percy crossed his arms.

"This house is unfair."

Liza laughed so hard she had to sit down.

"I'm never leaving."

Jules then turned around and waddled toward me.

I knelt down and picked her up again.

"You betrayed me earlier," I whispered dramatically.

She grabbed my cheek.

Then she looked at Aries.

"Giraf."

Aries froze.

The entire house went silent.

Then Percy jumped up cheering.

"YES!"

Dad started laughing.

Mom almost dropped the tray.

I stared at Jules with pure pride.

"Good girl."

Aries looked deeply offended.

"I have been attacked by a toddler."

Jules then looked at me again.

Everyone waited.

I held my breath.

She smiled.

Then said:

"Smol."

The house exploded again.

Aries pointed at me while laughing like a villain.

"JUSTICE!"

I buried my face in Jules' tiny shoulder.

"This baby is evil."

Mom finally placed the snacks on the table.

"Alright everyone sit down before the neighbors call the police."

Dad nodded.

"That's actually possible."

We all gathered around the living room.

Jules sat happily in my lap while everyone kept teasing each other.

The house was loud.

Chaotic.

Ridiculous.

But as I watched everyone laughing…

I realized something.

For the first time in months…

My heart felt light.

Even if I was still smol.

Even if my brothers were idiots.

Even if a toddler had officially labeled Percy a blue-eyed monkey and Aries a giraffe.

This chaos…

Was exactly the kind of happiness I needed.

And for that moment…

Everything felt okay again.
