Chapter 77 - Chapter 77: Interlude

"Once made a wish, waiting for your appearance~"

"On the faded swing, there is a book that will commemorate~"

Cyrene sat in Caelus's arms, closed her eyes, and sang softly.

Caelus wrapped his arms around Cyrene's waist, leaned against the tree behind him, and also closed his eyes, listening to the singing of the person in his arms.

Caelus didn't know why the System wanted to bring out this song at this moment, it said this situation was very suitable for singing this song.

When he delivered the knowledge of this song to Cyrene, she said that although she didn't know why, she always felt that this song had a faint sense of resonance with her.

She sang softly. The song seemed to contain the sadness of parting, but it also seemed to contain the hope of meeting again tomorrow.

Even this small world dimmed because of this song. The azure sky turned pitch black, and the dazzling sun gradually faded away. What would bring light to this world would be a group of shining stars.

Cyrene opened her eyes, looked at the starry sky above, and looked at the brilliant galaxy. She suddenly hummed another song.

"Twinkle, twinkle, little star, the sky is full of little Mem~"

"Shouldn't it be little stars?"

"Because it sounds very cute when sung like this!"

"Mm, indeed."

"Partner, look, look, those stars connected together, don't they look like a big crab!"

"It feels more like a crawfish."

"Partner, I also want to hear you sing!"

"I haven't sung before."

"It's okay. If you don't sing well, Partner, I will teach you! Your voice sounds quite nice, Partner, singing will definitely sound good too!"

While Caelus was still considering whether to sing, he saw the System throw a piece of memory knowledge right into his face.

[System: Sing this!]

Caelus received this memory knowledge and then began to sing.

"Reincarnation, hope and despair alternate in singing~"

...

In the cafeteria, Fujimaru, with messy hair and looking like they hadn't slept well at all, walked in. After finishing this breakfast, they had to rush to magic training and make-up classes on various history and even myths and legends.

To be honest, the current pace of life was simply much harder than when they were in high school. Clearly, they had just graduated from high school and were planning to do some odd jobs to save up for living expenses during college, but somehow, they ended up joining Chaldea and becoming a Master who had to save the world.

Just as Fujimaru's eyes were hazy and they wanted to sleep again, they suddenly saw the cafeteria door open. A gray-haired man wearing black clothes walked in.

"Caelus-senpai!"

Hearing Fujimaru's shout, Caelus turned his head to look and saw Fujimaru, who was gnawing on bread.

"Good morning."

Caelus nodded at Fujimaru, then also took a breakfast and sat opposite them.

"Senpai, are you okay? You've been back in Chaldea for several days, and I'm only seeing you come out now. Was the battle with King Arthur too draining? Dr. Roman was very worried about you before, saying he wanted to give you psychological counseling."

"I'm fine. It's just that my demand for food is not very high. Most of the time I am meditating, which leads to my concept of time not being very accurate."

"Oh! Could this be the legendary cultivation?!"

Fujimaru's originally sleepy eyes brightened at this moment, filled with curiosity about the cultivation culture described in novels and stories.

"Cultivation..."

Caelus thought for a moment. He did seem to be cultivating, but it wasn't like the cultivators described in those novels who inhaled and exhaled the spiritual energy of heaven and earth. Instead, he was balancing the memories and Void within his body to expand his own path.

"In a certain sense, you could say so, but this method of mine cannot be taught to others."

Caelus's own birth was particularly special.

One was a possibility that should not have been born, and even if it was born under the coincidence of miracles and fate, it was an unchosen possibility in the Void.

The other was a transmigrator selected by the System, who originally lived in an absolute universe, had no fate or causality, and didn't even possess a soul.

After these two existences merged, the current Caelus was born, creating an individual that, even if eroded by the Void, could still retain his sense of self, and could even continuously seize power from the Void, bit by bit forging existence in a void.

The former, that unchosen possibility, brought about compatibility with the Void, allowing Caelus to better draw power from the Void, while the latter, this insulated being from an absolute universe who was untainted by any causality and didn't even have any connection to extraordinary systems, allowed Caelus to alleviate the side effects brought about by the Void to a certain extent. Even now, with the power of memories, at this moment when the Void and memories had achieved Equilibrium, Caelus would not even be eroded by the Void.

This especially special situation led to the fact that even if Caelus were willing to distribute his balanced Void and memory power to others, they wouldn't be able to bear it for long. In the end, they would either fall into the Void and, like Omacido, have all their existence obscured by Caelus's shadow, or they would be engulfed by memories and become like Lancelot, with their existence devoured and plundered by Caelus.

Even now, as long as Caelus were willing, he could directly eat the main body of Lancelot on the Throne of Heroes, but he just hadn't done so.

"Oh! I read in those novels before that cultivators can dine on wind and drink dew, not eat grains, absorb the energy of heaven and earth, and move mountains and fill seas with a wave of their hands! Is this true!?"

Fujimaru was indeed very curious about this aspect. After all, they were essentially just an ordinary person who had just graduated from high school, had not yet stepped into reality, had not suffered the beatings of the world, and liked to fantasize.

And they were also far from being the savior with an iron will of the future.

"More or less. I've never actually seen what a true cultivator is like, I'm just a rather special case."

Caelus took a bite of the bland, tasteless bread, unable to help but wonder, where exactly could he collect the intense sin of gluttony to restore his sense of taste?

Under what circumstances would there be an incomparably strong sense of gluttony? That would, of course, be when a group of people were starving, and a table full of delicacies was laid out before them, the desire for gluttony would surely be intense as they ate, right?

Should he torture his conscience a little, collect a group of people in the next Singularity, starve them for a couple of days, and then give them something to eat?

Caelus thought about it, but even so, the desire for gluttony gathered from a small number of people was still too little, not enough for him to savor. If he wanted to restore his sense of taste by gnawing on emotions to stimulate himself, he would need the desire for gluttony constructed by hundreds of thousands of people, at the very least.

"Perhaps after returning to my original universe, I could go find those breeding insects. They endlessly create their own kind while crazily gnawing on everything. Perhaps a large number of True Stinging Insects could provide me with enough desire for gluttony?"

As for why not go find the Voracity?

This Aeon and the ancient beasts under its command had all disappeared without a trace after the last War of the Aeons, finding them would be less simple than finding those True Stinging Insects.

At least those insects could be found with some time and effort, but finding those vanished Voracity ancient beasts in the vast universe would be difficult. As for Pathstriders walking on this Path, up until now, Caelus had not seen any information about them in any records.

They might exist, but they certainly wouldn't be found anytime soon.

Caelus's thoughts returned to the present. After finishing his bland, tasteless breakfast, he grabbed some snacks and returned to his room to feed Mem.

Although Mem, like him, didn't actually need food, she could taste it.

The rest of the time was basically the same, Caelus mostly just showed his face in the cafeteria, ate something casually, and went back, bringing along some snacks.

He didn't interact with anyone, didn't attend combat meetings, and certainly didn't need to learn any Magecraft techniques.

Time passed quickly, and soon, it was time to head to the first Singularity.
