Chapter 63 - Chapter 65: A Plan Built on Lies

The night felt heavier than usual.

Not because of the darkness—

But because of the decision hanging between them.

Ariana sat silently in the safe house, the small card still clutched in her hand. The address written on it seemed simple, almost ordinary. But she knew better. Nothing about this was simple.

Across the room, Adrian watched her.

Carefully.

She hadn't said much since they returned.

And that—

Wasn't like her.

"You're thinking too much," he said finally.

Ariana looked up.

A faint smile appeared on her lips—but it didn't reach her eyes.

"I have to," she replied. "This isn't something we can afford to get wrong."

Adrian stepped closer.

"Then stop carrying it alone," he said. "Tell me everything."

Ariana's fingers tightened slightly around the card.

For a moment—

She almost did.

Almost told him everything his mother had said.

Almost told him about the demand.

The condition.

The betrayal.

But then—

Lia's face flashed in her mind.

Small. Afraid. Alone.

And just like that—

The words died in her throat.

"They want you," she said instead. "That's all that matters."

Adrian studied her.

Longer this time.

Deeper.

"You're hiding something," he said quietly.

Ariana's heart skipped—

But her expression didn't change.

"No," she replied calmly. "I'm just focused."

Adrian didn't look convinced.

But he didn't push further.

Not yet.

"Then we do this together," he said. "No surprises."

Ariana nodded.

"Together."

The word felt heavy on her tongue.

Because she already knew—

That wasn't entirely true.

Hours later—

The safe house was quiet again.

Adrian had finally stepped out to coordinate with his men, leaving Ariana alone.

This—

Was her moment.

She moved quickly.

Silently.

From her sleeve, she pulled out the tiny blade she had hidden earlier. The metal glinted faintly under the dim light.

Her hands didn't shake this time.

They were steady.

Focused.

Determined.

She walked to the table and placed the card down.

Then—

Carefully—

She made a small cut on her palm.

A sharp intake of breath escaped her, but she didn't stop.

The pain grounded her.

Reminded her—

What she was fighting for.

A drop of blood fell onto the card.

Then another.

She spread it slightly with her fingers, smearing the ink just enough to alter it.

Changing the details.

Not completely—

Just enough.

A trap.

But not for them.

For Adrian's mother.

Ariana exhaled slowly.

"This is my move," she whispered.

Because she wasn't going to choose.

She wasn't going to betray Adrian.

And she wasn't going to lose her daughter.

So—

She would lie.

To everyone.

The next evening—

The location stood quiet.

An isolated building at the edge of the city.

Perfect for something like this.

Ariana and Adrian arrived together.

No guards.

No backup visible.

Just them.

Adrian glanced at her briefly. "You're sure about this?"

Ariana nodded.

"I am."

But inside—

Her heart was racing.

Because everything depended on what happened next.

They stepped inside.

The doors closed behind them.

And just like before—

She was there.

Adrian's mother.

Waiting.

Her eyes immediately moved to Adrian.

A faint smile appeared.

"Right on time," she said.

Adrian stepped forward slightly, his posture relaxed—but his eyes sharp.

"You wanted me," he said. "I'm here."

The woman's gaze shifted briefly to Ariana.

Something unreadable passed through her expression.

"Good," she said softly.

Then—

Her eyes narrowed slightly.

Because something felt… off.

Ariana stood still.

Calm.

Too calm.

And that's when—

The woman noticed it.

The card.

Still in Ariana's hand.

But altered.

Her smile faded slightly.

"What did you do?" she asked.

Ariana didn't answer immediately.

Instead—

She slowly lifted her gaze.

And for the first time—

There was no fear in her eyes.

Only defiance.

"I stopped playing by your rules," she said.

Silence fell.

Sharp. Dangerous.

Adrian glanced at her—

Confused.

But before he could ask—

A sound echoed through the building.

Footsteps.

Multiple.

Surrounding them.

Adrian's instincts kicked in immediately.

"We're not alone."

Ariana didn't move.

"Of course we're not," she said softly.

Adrian turned to her fully now.

"Ariana… what did you do?"

A small, dangerous smile appeared on her lips.

"I made sure," she said, "that this time…"

She paused.

Then finished—

"We're the ones in control."

The doors burst open.

Armed men flooded in.

But not Adrian's.

And not his mother's either.

A third party.

Unexpected.

Unplanned.

Adrian's mother's expression darkened instantly.

"This wasn't part of the deal."

Ariana tilted her head slightly.

"I told you," she said. "I'm done following your deals."

Chaos was seconds away from exploding.

Adrian's eyes moved between Ariana and the incoming men.

Realization hit him.

"You set this up…"

Ariana didn't deny it.

"Yes."

A pause.

Then—

"I brought the only people your mother didn't account for."

The men stepped aside slightly.

And from behind them—

A figure emerged.

Familiar.

Dangerous.

Connected to Ariana's past.

The same man.

The one from the syndicate.

He smiled slowly.

"Well… this just got interesting."

Cliffhanger:
