Chapter 86 - Chapter 86 : A Thrilling Title Race!

"Aston Villa scores again!"

"Their towering striker, Tammy Abraham, nets his 32nd goal of the season. And the assist comes from Theodore Bjorn yet again. The teenager's assist tally now stands at a remarkable 32!"

After rattling off the stats, Peter Drury turned to his co-commentator, Jim Beglin, for analysis.

Beglin chuckled softly. "You have to say, Peter, at least half the credit for Abraham's header goes to the delivery."

"Bjorn's crosses from that right flank are simply pinpoint accurate. Despite being closely marked by two Norwich center-backs, his pass landed perfectly on Abraham's head. To consistently produce this level of passing skill at his age is just phenomenal."

On the Twitter feed, Villa fans were already celebrating wildly!

[Theo is a beast! Norwich's defense has no answer for him.]

[It's 2-1 now! Norwich has to attack if they want the title. This game is going to open up.]

[Villa has been outstanding tonight. Apart from conceding that early goal, the response has been flawless.]

[Villa's superior quality is showing. We deserve the championship.]

[Don't get complacent. Norwich's attack is still sharp. We need at least one more to kill the game.]

[I knew Theo would step up in this crucial moment.]

[That pass was sublime. Unstoppable.]

At that moment, over 40,000 fans at Villa Park rose from their seats, raising their arms and roaring in celebration.

Although Abraham scored the goal, a huge portion of the Holte End was chanting Theodore Bjorn's name.

You have to say, Villa fans know their ball, they understood exactly how crucial the teenager's vision had been.

Suddenly, the broadcast camera cut away from the pitch, focusing on a middle-aged man and a teenage girl seated in the VIP stands.

Peter Drury immediately identified the pair into his microphone.

"Oh, look at this. Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of the Norwegian Royal Family and his daughter, Princess Ingrid Alexandra, are in attendance this afternoon."

"Without a doubt, they are here to support Theodore Bjorn," Beglin added with a smile. "It's well known back in Norway that Princess Ingrid Alexandra is one of his most devoted fans."

Hearing the commentary, fans on Twitter couldn't help but marvel at the teenager's rising profile.

[Wow, Theo is really impressive. He's got the Norwegian Royal Family flying out for a Championship game!]

[Princess Ingrid Alexandra is stunning. Maybe the Crown Prince is trying to set Theo up with his daughter.]

[He's really pulling out all the stops.]

[Rumor has it Theo is already being lined up as the midfield maestro for the senior national team. What a talent.]

On the pitch, Norwich forward Teemu Pukki glumly placed the ball on the center spot.

He was undoubtedly the most frustrated player on the field. Abraham's goal had just made his quest for the Championship Golden Boot even more challenging.

To tie with the Villa man, he would need to score at least two more goals in the remaining time.

After the restart, Pukki played aggressively in the attacking third, constantly waving to his teammates and demanding the ball.

But Aston Villa's defensive shape was solid. Despite Norwich enjoying a high percentage of possession, they struggled to find the killer pass into Pukki.

Gradually, time slipped away as the first half neared its conclusion.

As clear-cut opportunities remained elusive, the Norwich players grew increasingly anxious.

To create quicker, more direct threats on Jed Steer's goal, they began resorting to frequent crosses from the flanks. It soon proved to be their most effective attacking strategy.

In the 43rd minute, the ball found its way to Emiliano Buendía on the right wing.

At just 22 years old, the Argentine talent already commanded a hefty market value.

He possessed razor-sharp dribbling skills and exceptional vision, having already provided 10 assists and 8 goals for Norwich this season.

He was the Canaries' primary creative force out wide.

The moment the ball reached Buendía's feet, Aston Villa's defenders immediately converged on him.

Neil Taylor and John McGinn were tasked with shutting him down.

Both Villa players were physically imposing, and they charged at him without hesitation.

But Buendía's agility and quick feet allowed him to shift the ball away from the tackle.

Before they could close the trap, he dug out a precise, curled cross into the penalty area.

"A dangerous cross from the flank," Drury noted as the play developed. "Buendía sends it toward the near post..."

"Pukki is there!"

The Finnish striker won the initial header, flicking it on dangerously toward the center of the penalty area.

"The ball falls loose in the box," Drury's voice rose with sudden urgency. "Stiepermann, arriving late in the center, gets his head to it!"

"AND IT'S IN! MARCO STIEPERMANN POWERS IT HOME!!!" Drury roared over the sudden silence of the home crowd. "NORWICH CLAW THEIR WAY BACK LEVEL! WHAT A GAME WE HAVE AT VILLA PARK!"

"The 1.90-meter German midfielder just outjumps the Aston Villa defenders," Beglin analyzed on the replay.

"It's a thunderous header with real force behind it. Jed Steer had absolutely no chance to react. Two-all. Both teams are right back to square one."

"As expected of a title decider, Jim. This match is full of twists and turns."

As Stiepermann headed the ball into the net, the previously jubilant stadium fell into a stunned, anxious silence.

The Villa fans stared in disbelief, struggling to comprehend how their defense had been breached so easily from a simple flick-on.

Equally stunned was Dean Smith.

After conceding, the Villa manager immediately stormed to the edge of his technical area, furiously barking at his defensive line.

"Hey what the fuck! Why wasn't anyone tracking Stiepermann's run?!" Smith yelled, his voice carrying over the quieted crowd.

"What's the point of everyone marking Pukki if you leave the late runners completely free?! Didn't we specifically go over their midfield runs in the briefing?!"

Faced with their manager's fury, the Aston Villa defenders hung their heads, looking frustrated and ashamed.

After the restart, Norwich surged with renewed confidence.

They immediately launched a high-pressure press, quickly dispossessing the Villa midfield.

In the final minute of first-half stoppage time, Norwich launched another relentless assault on Steer's goal.

47th Minute

Another Norwich attacking phase.

The ball once again found its way to Buendía on the right flank.

Having just provided the pre-assist for the equalizer, the Villa defenders dared not underestimate him again.

In an instant, Neil Taylor, Jack Grealish, and Conor Hourihane sprinted toward the Argentine at full speed.

Compared to their previous attempt, Villa had deployed an additional man, trapping Buendía in a tight three-man encirclement.

Though Buendía possessed dazzling footwork, evading three committed opponents in quick succession was a tall order.

So, he opted for another lofted pass.

Learning from their earlier mistake, Aston Villa gave him no room to cleanly strike the ball.

At the critical moment, full-back Neil Taylor leaped high, bravely using his body to block the cross.

Beep!

As the ball deflected out of bounds, referee Peter Bankes blew his whistle, signaling the end of a breathless first half.

The teams headed down the tunnel tied at 2-2.

Despite the stalemate, the situation heavily favored Norwich; if the draw held until the final whistle, Aston Villa would have to settle for second place and the playoffs.

...

Back in the locker room, Dean Smith issued a non-negotiable directive to his squad.

"We have to play more directly. We have forty-five minutes left to save our season," Smith urged, his tone intense.

"I'm not asking for a miracle—just one more goal, and we make sure the backline stays locked down."

"We've worked our socks off all year for this. One more goal, and the title is ours. We are going to lift that trophy on our own pitch today."

During halftime, the major sports networks and media outlets across the UK extensively covered the dramatic first half.

Sky Sports News: "A rollercoaster first half at Villa Park. Aston Villa fell behind, equalized, took the lead, and then were pegged back right before the whistle. The final 45 minutes of the Championship season will decide the title."

The Athletic: "Theodore Bjorn delivers two brilliant assists, but Villa's defensive lapses leave them tied 2-2 with Norwich."

BBC Sport: "A goal-fest in Birmingham. The two teams combined for four goals in a frantic first half, leaving Villa needing a win in the second half to secure the championship."

On Twitter, numerous football pundits shared their perspectives.

Gary Lineker: "Aston Villa's attacking play has been excellent, but Norwich's crosses are causing chaos. Dean Smith needs to tighten up that defense to stand a chance."

Micah Richards: "Villa has been on an incredible unbeaten run, but Norwich are showing exactly why they are top of the league. This could easily go either way."

Jamie Carragher: "Villa needs to be bolder. They should try to mimic Norwich's strategy and get the ball out wide faster. They must create as many connections as possible between Bjorn and Abraham."

Roy Keane: "Time is running out for Villa. Looking at that first half, their only real danger came from Bjorn. They've become far too reliant on a 17-year-old to bail them out."
