Chapter 77 - The Broken Toy

Veyrath stood in the ruined street.

Around him—

Pieces of Constantine lay scattered across broken stone.

Arms.

Fragments of bone.

Blood soaking into the dust.

For a few seconds, the Nether Prince simply stared.

Then he sighed.

"…how disappointing."

He nudged one of the broken pieces of Con's body with his foot.

Like a child poking at a toy that had just snapped in half.

"I expected more."

His voice carried mild annoyance.

"The Ugly God's toy should have been… interesting."

Instead—

It had broken almost immediately.

Veyrath shook his head.

"Mortals are fragile things."

Even the ones touched by strange gods apparently.

The ruined street was silent.

No movement.

No life.

Nothing that caught his interest.

Veyrath stretched his shoulders lazily.

"…well."

"If the toy is broken…"

"There's no reason to stay."

He glanced toward the distant city.

Smoke still rose from the northern district.

People were beginning to return to search the ruins.

Rescue teams.

Priests.

Soldiers.

All small.

All meaningless.

Veyrath smiled faintly.

"…perhaps I should finish the job."

After all—

He hadn't come here for mortal politics or rituals.

He had only responded to the summons because he felt something interesting.

Now that curiosity was gone.

The only thing left was irritation.

And Veyrath had always enjoyed expressing irritation.

"Destroying the rest of this little city should be entertaining enough."

His eyes gleamed faintly.

"Besides…"

He chuckled.

"…it will surely annoy that Ugly God."

That alone was worth the effort.

Veyrath bent his knees slightly.

Then—

He launched into the air.

The body he wore twisted unnaturally as dark energy surged around it.

Within seconds, he vanished into the distant sky.

Leaving only silence behind.

The ruined street remained empty.

Dust drifted slowly in the evening wind.

Somewhere nearby, a loose stone rolled down a broken wall.

Among the scattered remains of Constantine—

One small piece shifted.

An eye.

It had rolled away from the rest of the body during the destruction.

Now it lay in a shallow puddle beside the rubble.

The water trembled faintly with each distant rumble from the damaged city.

Time passed.

The sun slowly moved across the sky.

Afternoon faded.

The shadows grew longer.

And eventually—

The sun began to set.

Golden light stretched across the ruined district.

The rays struck the puddle at a perfect angle.

For a brief moment—

The water surface reflected the sky.

The reflection touched the eye.

And then—

The eye vanished.

Silently.

As if it had never been there.

Darkness.

Then—

A faint flicker of light.

Floating panels appeared in empty space.

The familiar glow of the System.

Words formed slowly across its surface.

[Vessel Status: Critical]

[Structural Integrity: 0%]

[Biological Functions: Terminated]

The system paused briefly.

Then new text appeared.

[Emergency Protocol Activated]

[Relocating Consciousness to Mirror Realm]

The empty darkness rippled.

And something began to form within it.

A shape.

Faint.

Incomplete.

The consciousness of Constantine.

Still sleeping.

Still unaware.

More lines of text appeared.

[Vessel Damage: Catastrophic]

[Regeneration Required]

The system calculated.

Numbers flickered rapidly.

Finally—

One result remained.

[Estimated Time for Full Vessel Reconstruction:]

10 Years

The message hovered in the silent Mirror Realm.
