Chapter 6 - Lead

The ambulance was outside. Izanagi stood at Satsuki's side and watched as the paramedics put Ryota on the stretcher and put him in the ambulance.

A police officer separated Satsuki from the paramedics, positioned himself between her and the ambulance.

"Ma'am. I need to ask you a few questions."

"Of course," she said.

He took out his notepad and started writing as Sasaki told him what happened. She told him that her husband ran a private security firm and had been hired to conduct a consultation to assess a neighborhood, routine professional work.

She didn't know the exact address as he hadn't given it to her. She continued adding that on his way, he got attacked by a group of criminals who wanted to rob him.

Ryota fought back and got shot and called her. She brought him back, and that's when she called the cops.

The police wanted to press further for more information, but he could see that Sasaki was clearly shaken up as she was trembling, so he didn't press further. As the police were about to leave, Sasaki grabbed his shoulders.

"Wait, can you please let us in your car and drive us to the hospital where Ryota is going? We lost our car, and we want to be there with him." Sasaki said.

"Oh, of course, no problem."

The cop led them to his police car and tailed the ambulance from behind.

-----

Satsuki sat down in the waiting room with Izanagi beside her as Ryota was ongoing surgery.

'So there vilgalantes.' Izanagi thought.

He was proud of them. They were people who broke the frankly retarded hero licensing system, and despite the criminalization of vigilantes they still wore the mask.

He personally despised the licensing system, it brought a bitter taste in his mouth when Izuku got scolded by the heroes instead of getting praised when he saved Bakugo from the sludge villian. Heroes shouldn't need permission to do what was right.

He hope that Ryota pulls through despite not having really any personal attachment to him as a hero such as him deserves to live another day.

Suddenly Satsuki pulled him in a hug.

"Daddy's going to be okay." She said holding back her tears. "There taking real good care of him."

He let her hug him and didn't say anything, it was clear to him that she said that to ease her own worries.

Hours passed as they waited for the surgery to be done until a man in a light blue scrub walked up to them with a smile on his face.

"It went well," he said. "Bullet's out and no organ damage but he's going to stay a week in the hospital before he gets discharged so we can monitor if there's any infection."

Satsuki and Izanagi stood up and Sasaki did a deep bow while pushing Izanagi head down to bow as well.

"Thank you so much for your hard work!" She said to the surgeon.

"Izanagi, say thank you to the surgeon as well."

"Thank you."

They went in and Ryota was asleep and he also looked a bit pale due to blood loss. They stayed the night but eventually went back home.

-----

As they rode the bus home Sasaki whispered to Izanagi.

"I'm sure you have alot of questions about what happened so I need to tell you something. The reason why me and your dad was in coustume is because were vilgalantes."

"Vilgalantes are heroes without hero licenses which is illegal, that's why i lied to the cops but we're not criminals lzanagi, we save people just like heroes do so I want you to keep this a secret between us, pinky promise?" Sasaki said as she raised her pinky finger towards Izanagi.

"Pinky promised." Izanagi replied as he he did a pinky promise with Sasaki then he hugged her.

Satsuki smiled hugging Izanagi tightly.

-----

They arrived home and Sasaki tiredly went upstaris to her room to sleep as she was still overwhelmed mentally by the whole situation.

Izanagi stayed downstairs and turned on the news, curious to see if they reported on the incident.

The newscaster introduced himself as Daikaku Miyagi. He had greenish hair with two horns protruding from each side of his forehead though the left horn was cut.

"In Naruhata last night, two vilgalantes intervened in an incident involving a group of high school students."

"The individuals known as Escrima and Knuckles - a vigilante pair who have been active in the Naruhata district for several years committed a crime by acting without a hero license potentially not only risking there lives but the lives of the highschool girls as well."

"It is also the case that the high school girls who were surrounded in an alley with criminals and no way to escape are safe right now due to the vilgilantes."

The broadcast cut to a reporter at the scene, a young woman standing infront of the alleyway with the girls by her side. The alleyway was covered in police tapes as investigators were taking pictures behind her.

She gave the location and described the events that she got from the girls. The three girls were standing together then bowed, thanking the vilgalante pair.

The broadcast cut back to Daikaku. He read the names of the criminals as the mugshots of the criminals appeared beside him on the screen.

"These are the criminal names that were harrsing those poor girls. Nagi Seikhiro, Minao Hasu, Rei Mando, Takamichi Dagon, Yoru Haruno and Sai Paku." He then listed the charges and confirmed they were in custody.

"There is a question that events like these tend to raise," he continued, "and I think it is worth bringing it up. Should hero society reconsider how it treats individuals who act heroically without a license?"

'Obviously yes.' Izanagi thought.

He already had problems with the vilgalante system but the real issue he had was with the hero bilboard rankings. He understood why hero rankings existed it was human nature to always rank things but heriosm was something that shouldn't be ranked.

Turning heroism into a popularity contest comes with branding which leads to making money. Most "heroes" were saving people so they could boost there popularity and get more money.

His previous world died due to corruption and greed, he wasn't going let this world turn the same way. He was going to rise through the ranks and dismantle the hero rankings.

-----

A detective stood at the tape line watching the forensic marked up the blood and take samples for dna testing.

"After all these years they finally slipped up, he said after lighting up a cigarette. "It is time for justice to prevail."
