Chapter 71 - Chapter 67: Warning

Jay's POV

The room went completely silent after Isabela spoke.

"Te encontraron otra vez."

They found you again.

For a second…

nobody moved.

Even Aunty Gemma stopped pretending not to listen. 😭

I stared at Isabela carefully.

My chest suddenly felt tight.

Annoying honestly.

Very annoying.

Then finally I spoke.

"¿Quién?"

Who?

Isabela didn't answer immediately.

And somehow…

that irritated me more.

Aries noticed too.

His expression hardened slightly as he stepped forward.

"Explain properly."

Good.

At least somebody here still remembered how communication worked. 😐

Isabela inhaled slowly before speaking.

"Hace dos semanas…"

Two weeks ago…

She looked directly at me.

"Alguien empezó a preguntar por ti."

Someone started asking about you.

My stomach twisted slightly.

Which was rude.

Again.

Dad's voice finally entered the conversation.

Calm.

Serious.

"What exactly did they ask?"

Isabela looked away briefly.

Like she was choosing her words carefully.

"They asked about MJ."

Silence.

Aries' expression changed immediately beside me.

Mom's hand tightened slightly around her cup.

Even Dad looked colder now.

Great.

Fantastic.

Wonderful atmosphere. 😐✨

Then Isabela continued quietly.

"También preguntaron sobre carreras ilegales."

They also asked about illegal racing.

Okay.

Now THIS was becoming irritating.

Very irritating.

I crossed my arms tighter.

"People ask questions every day."

Isabela looked directly at me again.

"No estas entendiendo."

You're not understanding.

Her voice became more serious now.

"Sabían tu apellido."

They knew your surname.

The room became still again.

Not normal stillness.

The dangerous kind.

Aries cursed quietly under his breath.

Aunty Gemma finally spoke. "…Okay now I'm scared."

Honestly same. 😭

I forced myself to stay calm.

No panic.

No overthinking.

No spiraling dramatically into emotional disaster.

Healthy coping mechanisms. 😌

…Failed immediately.

Because my brain was already running everywhere.

Who?

How?

Why now?

And most importantly:

how much did they know?

Isabela stepped closer slightly.

This time I didn't move back.

Mostly because my brain was too busy collapsing internally.

"Pensé que debías saberlo."

I thought you deserved to know.

I laughed softly.

Tired laugh this time.

"How kind of you."

Aries glanced at me carefully.

Probably noticing my voice changing slightly.

Unfortunately for him…

I was trying very hard not to look affected.

Keyword:

trying.

Dad finally spoke again.

"Did they say what they wanted?"

Isabela shook her head slowly.

"No."

Then after a pause:

"But they sounded serious."

Wonderful.

Amazing.

Ten out of ten experience. 😐

Mom sighed quietly. "Jay…"

I immediately answered:

"I'm fine."

Lie.

Huge lie.

Massive lie honestly.

But nobody called me out on it.

Which somehow made things worse.

Then Isabela looked at me carefully again before speaking softly.

"You think leaving solved everything."

I looked away briefly.

She continued:

"It didn't."

That line irritated me immediately.

Mostly because part of me knew she was right.

And I hated when people were right. 😭

The room slowly fell quiet again after that.

Nobody really knew what to say anymore.

Which honestly felt fair.

What exactly were you supposed to say after:

"Hello welcome back people from your past might be hunting you again." 💀

Eventually I turned away first.

"I'm tired."

Aries looked like he wanted to stop me.

But he didn't.

Good choice honestly.

Because I really didn't feel like talking anymore.

I walked upstairs quietly while the voices downstairs faded behind me.

The hallway suddenly felt colder now.

Or maybe that was just me.

Once inside my room…

I closed the door slowly behind me.

Silence.

Finally.

I walked toward my desk and opened the drawer carefully.

Then pulled out the small recorder.

Adrian's recorder.

The edges were slightly worn now from years of being touched too much.

I stared at it quietly for a second.

Then sighed softly.

"Everything was peaceful for like… five minutes."

Tragic honestly. 😐

I pressed play gently.

A soft melody filled the room.

Familiar.

Warm.

Painfully familiar.

And for the first time in a long while…

I actually felt scared again. 🌙
