Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Our Child

The steady pulse-pulse of the monitors filled the quiet recovery room.

Slowly, the mother opened her eyes. The world was a blur until the door slid open, letting in a sliver of bright light.

A nurse entered the room. She carried a small bundle wrapped in a clean hospital blanket. Seeing the mother awake, she smiled warmly.

"Good morning," the nurse whispered.

The mother blinked, her mind still foggy from the chaotic surgery. Her voice was barely a whisper. "...The baby?"

"He is doing perfectly," the nurse said, stepping closer. "There was a scary moment earlier... but he is a fighter. He is completely healthy."

She gently placed the warm, light bundle into the mother's trembling arms. The mother's breath caught in her throat. As the blanket shifted, the newborn looked up.

Those eyes were a liquid, molten gold. They caught the soft light of the room and glowed with a terrifying depth. It was a gaze far too sharp for a baby only a few hours old.

The nurse chuckled softly to ease the tension. "Your son is... quite unique. One in a billion, I would wager."

The mother looked up, her face full of silent questions.

"The DNA tests show he is a perfect match for you and your husband," the nurse explained, her eyes full of wonder. "But nature decided to give him a special gift. That snow-white hair, those golden eyes... he is breathtaking. Honestly, he looks like a little prince."

The baby did not cry. Instead, he reached up, his tiny hands moving through the air as if playing with the light. For the first time since the storm started, a genuine smile touched the mother's lips.

The door pushed open again. The father stepped inside. He had already seen the boy in the nursery, but seeing him now in his wife's arms made his chest tighten with overwhelming joy.

"You saw him, didn't you?" the mother asked softly.

The father nodded, too choked up to speak. He walked over to the bedside, staring down at the child. "I saw him."

The newborn's gaze drifted from the mother and settled right on the father. There was a heavy, silent gravity in that look. The baby didn't blink. He just watched the man with an eerie, quiet curiosity.

The father reached down and extended a single finger.

The response was instant. The baby's tiny hand snapped shut around the finger. His grip was surprisingly firm—like an iron-clad greeting.

The father's eyes welled with tears. A happy smile broke through his exhaustion. "He really did come back to us."

The mother leaned her head back against the pillows. Her fingers gently brushed through the child's silky white hair. It felt incredibly fine, like spun glass.

"Our child," she whispered, finally feeling at peace.

Cradled between his new parents, the baby remained silent. His golden eyes continued to track everything around him, watchful and knowing.

The supreme monarch was back. He was simply waiting for the right moment to show this world his true power.
