"Whew... that was a bit of a curveball..."
Currently, Mohg stood not far from the Academy Gate Town, looking up at the sky and letting out a long, weary sigh.
After Lianna had uttered those words, Mohg's brain—which had momentarily stalled—began to whir at high speeds. His immediate response was a blunt "we'll talk about this later."
Then, before Lianna could react, he performed a fresh round of blood blessing upon her. Taking advantage of the time she spent absorbing the power, he beat a hasty retreat from their current camp and sprinted all the way toward the Academy.
The instructions he had intended to give her face-to-face were ultimately delivered via their shared mental connection.
By the time Lianna woke from her blessing, Mohg was already nearing the Academy Gate Town. He was currently contemplating how to infiltrate the town to gather intelligence—and, more importantly, to finally taste the delicacies of human society.
As for Runes, he hadn't actually spent a single one since the day he was born. After slaughtering so many foes, however, he had amassed quite the fortune. He figured he might even find an opportunity to buy some supplies for his subordinates.
Meanwhile, back at the camp, Lianna was feeling rather dejected after being temporarily "rejected."
However, the mood didn't last long. In her mind, Lord Mohg had said "later." When was "later"? To her, it clearly meant once the Dynasty was established and their restoration was complete.
Reinvigorated with fighting spirit, she looked at the tasks Mohg had assigned her. The fact that he still viewed her as his most important subordinate confirmed that he wasn't disgusted by her.
Throwing herself into her new work with renewed passion, she led a group to Nokstella to begin a new round of coordination with Namiya.
It was worth noting that during her exchange with Namiya, Lianna learned a piece of news that nearly made her grind her molars to dust: Namiya had seen everything during the moment Mohg's new body was formed, while Lianna had seen nothing at all.
She suppressed her irritation, however. This was a mission Mohg had entrusted to her, and she had to take it seriously. But deep down, she definitely added that particular detail to her mental ledger.
Back to Mohg.
He had arrived in the vicinity of the Academy Gate Town. The area was heavily fortified with checkpoints manned by a coalition of Cuckoo Soldiers, Carian Soldiers, and Academy Sorcerer Apprentices.
Mohg was currently dressed in an ornately patterned, luxurious robe. To anyone unaware of his identity, he easily looked like a traveling noble.
He considered whether he should switch to more common attire and change his grooming to avoid drawing too much attention... but the thought vanished as quickly as it came.
With his current temperament, skin, physique, and overall appearance, he simply didn't look like a commoner. Instead of trying to hide, it was better to pose as a merchant, a noble scion who had survived an ambush, or perhaps... a sorcerer apprentice seeking to enroll at the Academy.
"Huh. That actually sounds viable..."
Mohg suddenly recalled the mercenaries he and Morgott had killed back in the sewers. One of them had been a Glintstone Sorcerer—not a wandering Astrologer, but a true Glintstone Sorcerer of the Academy.
He didn't know the man's specific rank, but his clone still had the man's belongings. He could use a blood pool to have the clone transport the items over. As long as he didn't pull out anything that specifically identified the original owner, he would be fine.
With a plan in mind, Mohg moved away from the Gate Town checkpoints to a secluded location. He began to contact his clone, which was still stationed in the Leyndell sewers. At the same time, he wanted to check on the situation in the capital and see how his "dear old brother" was faring.
As he shifted his consciousness into the clone deep underground, the Mohg sitting in the center of the subterranean hall slowly opened his eyes.
"The switch between primary and secondary consciousness is actually quite interesting..."
Mohg squinted, looking at the dark skin of his Omen arms, and couldn't help but let out a small smile.
Taking direct control of the clone was a necessity. It seemed his clone couldn't independently create a blood pool. Building one required the sacrifice of living blood, but once the primary consciousness took over, that requirement was bypassed. He could contact the Formless Mother directly. He didn't fully understand the mechanics—perhaps it involved some nuance of the soul.
He quickly reviewed the clone's recent memories. It had mostly been a routine of practicing incantations, occasional hunting for food, and sparring or bickering with Morgott. Nothing of major concern had happened.
"In that case..."
Mohg stood up and walked over to the equipment stored nearby. He gathered the Glintstone Sorcerer's items and headed toward the lift.
"Yaru, long time no see."
"Long time no see? Didn't we just see each other yesterday?" Yaru, the Jar, paused and scratched his ceramic body in confusion.
"Ahem, don't mind that. Just a greeting. By the way, can you tell me where your hometown is?" Mohg laughed it off and got straight to the point.
Yaru nodded. "Mhm. My home is on the eastern side of Liurnia, near the Carian Study Hall. It's tucked away at the base of the cliffs, so it's hard to see and even harder to find."
"I see..."
Mohg paused. The place Yaru described was exactly where he had been earlier, near the town of Torilan. It seemed the Jarburg of this world was in the same general area as in the game. He had missed it this time, but he made a mental note to visit later; he was quite interested in the Warrior Jars.
After chatting with Yaru for a bit longer, Mohg took the items into the depths of the sewers. He established a small blood pool and dropped the sorcerer's gear inside.
"Now then, the next step is..."
Mohg stepped out from the sewer depths. His mind was now focused on the current state of the Royal Capital. Since moving his operations to the Lake District, his intel on Leyndell had dwindled. Ever since the main forces had shifted to Liurnia, he was virtually in the dark regarding the Altus Plateau.
One of his main reasons for diving back into this clone was to find out exactly what was happening in the capital.
