Chapter 118 - Chapter 118: The Experiment

Divine blood. To possess the blood of a god and the blessing of the Aspects of the Crucible meant that one parent was a god, while the other carried the lineage of the Crucible that once blessed the Lands Between.

How many such individuals existed? They could be counted on one hand. The most prominent examples were, of course, the two standing at the very pinnacle of the Golden Order.

Thus, as Mohg had claimed, Namiya recognized that their potential was indeed worth the investment. In fact, that value was immense. After all, a future demigod was a prospect no investor in their right mind would refuse.

As for the level of credibility, a single drop of blood was enough to prove his identity. The nobility hidden within one's lineage could not be masked.

"So, what kind of support do you require from us?" Namiya asked, looking at Mohg with curiosity. In her view, there wasn't actually much the Nox could do for the Mohgwyn Dynasty, as the surface was not a region they could control.

One could even say that for a long time, apart from occasionally sending one or two clansmen to the surface to gather intelligence, they remained largely ignorant of the world above.

There was no other reason than this: they had been terrified by the things "thrown down" upon them by the Greater Will. But being afraid didn't mean they didn't hold a grudge. Consequently, they chose to lie low underground, constantly attempting to create a Lord of their own.

Evidently, they had yet to achieve any significant success. Silver Tear technology had hit a bottleneck in Nokstella, and the techniques for creating Dragonkin Soldiers had stagnated after a single round of refinements. Thus, they had fallen into a temporary state of idleness.

"I need knowledge regarding the Silver Tears, as well as a letter of recommendation. I intend to head to the other side to establish my dynasty there."

"You mean... Nokron?" Namiya furrowed her brow. "We have been out of contact with them for countless years. Even with our recommendation, I doubt it will be of much help to you."

"I only need to ensure they won't be hostile toward us. That is enough," Mohg explained. He only intended to pass through, not do anything else—though he did have some ideas about "borrowing" a few things from them...

"Fine, I can agree to that condition. But regarding the Silver Tears..." Namiya paused, looking at Mohg as if waiting for him to elaborate.

"Very well. What I truly want is information on Larval Tears, and the nature of your relationship with the Carians."

"...I see. That isn't a major issue. Is that all?"

"If you are willing to provide some additional resources and weaponry, that would be even better."

Namiya nodded. "Larval Tears are a primary material for us in the creation of Silver Tears. They possess extreme plasticity and can even merge into any material—even living organisms—though that often leads to the collapse of the biological host."

"Therefore, we primarily use them for weapon manufacturing. We have also tried using them as a medium to fuse and create new life, but clearly, we failed. Every creature created this way possesses physiological defects."

Mohg nodded. Whether it was the first or second generation Albinaurics, or even the Dragonkin Soldiers, they were all flawed lives.

"And how do you treat those creatures?" Mohg couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.

Namiya glanced at him. "Naturally, we let them live out their lives until they die of natural causes. We do not allow them to breed or continue creating more of their kind. For them, this is the best possible end. Well, for most of them, at least."

Mohg understood. In other words, if they had utility, they were kept for labor; if not, they were allowed to grow old and die. After all, many of those physiological defects simply made survival impossible in the long run.

In a sense, for these artificial lives, this was perhaps a decent outcome. At least they weren't being summarily executed.

"And what about the Carians?"

"They are a branch that went to the surface. Since their departure, our contact with them has weakened significantly. It has only gradually recovered in recent years, but to be blunt, the relationship is not particularly good."

As she spoke, Namiya narrowed her eyes. She was thinking of the Carians who had entered their territory; their behavior was anything but a friendly visit to distant relatives.

Mohg frowned. Since their relationship with Nokstella wasn't great, then the Larval Tears the Carians possessed likely weren't acquired through trade with this city. They either traded elsewhere, took them by force, or... had their own means of producing Larval Tears.

"Reshaping the body or... hiding one's form. Can you achieve that?"

"Hmm?" Namiya looked at Mohg with a bewildered expression, seemingly shocked by the question. "That is... a good question. Theoretically, it can be done. But truthfully, we haven't tried it yet, so I cannot guarantee anything."

"I see... Then, have you ever encountered a creature whose form was altered by a Larval Tear?" Mohg rested his chin on his hand, contemplating.

Namiya looked startled. Mohg's words clearly surprised her, but after thinking it over carefully, she realized there actually was such an instance.

"Yes. We once discovered a Basilisk in the tunnels. After we dispatched it, it transformed into a Giant Ant, and its body was covered in the fluid of a Larval Tear. That is likely the situation you are describing."

"Hmm... Then, would you be interested in trying it on a human?" Mohg narrowed his eyes as he spoke to Namiya.

An intrigued expression immediately appeared on Namiya's face. As a researcher, this was a massive temptation.

They hadn't used humans for experiments before mainly because everyone here was a fellow clansman, making such acts impossible. They had captured some outsiders recently, but most had died quickly, and they hadn't focused their research in that direction.

Now that Mohg had brought it up, her interest was piqued. However... even if they were to try, who would the subject be?

Namiya shifted her gaze to Mohg.

"Don't look at me," Mohg said, his face darkening. "It certainly won't be on me. I will find someone to bring here."
