Chapter 41 - A battle that can't be won

The battle between Chosen and the Master of the knight reaches the sky. It sinned soul had took hold of the sky and hung itself with it. Then it pulls its own hanging flesh to move towards the sky.

The sky that it holds bends to its will and make way for the Master of the knight to change it. The whole picture from far away looks like a distinguished blob of flesh is hanging form nothing in the sky.

Why would a sinned soul would do such a thing? From a logical stand point, someone might make a point that it is escaping. Or trying to escape in an unconventional way. Who is it escaping from? Probably nothing.

Why would such a creature be afraid or something? Can it even feel something so meaningless as fear?

"Escaping" isn't really a correct word as it is. Perhaps, it is also feeling a little of bloodlust. That little bit of bloodlust may as well be hundred times that of all these Chosen combined.

Even with Skin's own bloodlust or violence combined with all of the Chosen can't compare to a creature such as this. So, what is it looking for? Well, other of its kind. Other completed sinned soul.

The eight gigantic sinned souls that surround the hell and are so close to being a God. What is better than trying to kill something like that? Master of the knight may not have a proper consciousness. But it still has Will and desire that spread throughout its body into multiple little pieces.

It is a suicidal move though. As it is still wanting to fight a God. A lower God or a corrupted God. But a God nonetheless. However, these creatures have no desire for self-preservation. They want to protect nothing or make nothing. These sinned souls exist for violence. If anyone were to move to a suicidal mission then it would be one of these sinned souls.

However, Chosen won't just let it move on. They attack it and cut through its flesh again and again. Even it doesn't seem to do much. Maybe even the minimum of damage.

But a Chosen will only resort to violence at the end. Even if it is yielding no result from it.

The meaningless violence continues for hours and hours.

The Master of the knight has played enough and now it wants to move on to fight the eight sinned Gods then die. So, it uses the frozen blessing again, [Path given by Bishop]. It has manipulated the blessing's core enough to use in a more destructive manner.

The large spear looks so tiny in the grasp of such a monster. But it is still as terrifying as before.

Another would be enough to keep every Chosen in their tracks. Such an attack may even improve as time move. If it could conjure more than one spear or infinite spear at once. Then it can kill ordinary humans in one second without even moving its flesh.

Mob can't let a creature like that move on while carrying a dangerous weapon like that. He needs to stop it from happening.

He destroys flesh with one attack again and again. He is climbing or practically jumping to the top. He isn't sure how can he find the frozen blessing. But if it had to be somewhere then it has to be at the top, right? It makes sense to Mor.

He ventures through the sharp appendages that are seem to especially designed to deal with him. Or they're just generic appendages. He is too small for the Master of the flesh to give any care for it.

Even if that hurtful thing is true, he still needs to be careful. He is only immune to blunt attacks. Anything if were to pierce him then his strength will only decrease and make it harder for him to reach his destination.

He continues onward but then a spear appears out of nowhere. Mor manages to block that attack with his two sludge hammers. He can't be taken by surprise the second time.

But it is a bad new.

He glances at the ground and observes many Chosen has suffered through the same attack. Not just that but flesh itself it retreating into the sky.

Mor isn't sure what is happening. But it is disappearing into the sky. It isn't flying up above. It is just moving up and then leave his sight. Disappearing into the world.

However, it doesn't really matter to Mor if this monster is moving teleporting, or shrinking itself to atomic level, or even going into a different dimension. All of it is meaningless as he wants to set the score.

He is also a Chosen and even if it much more sympathetic than the most Chosen. He still feels spite and hatred towards those who hurt his people.

He still remembers how it almost killed Calus and then it endangered the life of his soldier with its new trick. Right at this very moment for him, it doesn't matter if the frozen that it has can kill million in the future. He will take that spear from if just out of spite.

He knows his duty. But with so much bloodlust within him. He can only focus on something that matters to him right now. Also, it isn't like his action will lead to something disastrous in the future, right?

Well, who cares.

A smile crawls on his face and he moves faster and faster towards the sky. His speed is like a bullet. His own blessing is also helping him. As it is nullifying a lot of drag and gravitational pull. It usually doesn't happen but perhaps because he is so up high. His blessing is behaving different.

'Guess I don't know everything about my blessing…'

And then, I find it. A little frozen blessing within the flesh.

The Master of the knight is carrying the frozen blessing with a lot of sophistication. There is something that is organized and unorganized about its behavior towards it. It may look like the creature had taken the spear and mindlessly used its full potential.

But it is much more complex. There is breaking, recreating and manipulating happening that isn't observable from the naked eye. The sinned soul show odd intelligence. Every sinned soul a different level of it but how would a completed sinned soul behave?

Nobody knows because it isn't studied much. How would anyone be able to understand something that is so rare and powerful.

Mor isn't really interested in that and if it has even a semblance of intelligence. Then it would be even more reward to take that thing away from it.

He explodes into motion and in few minutes. He comes only one thousand meters away from it.

The time is of the essence. He needs to be even faster if he wants to reach it before the Master of the knight disappear.

Time is ticking.

There are no visible eyes, ears, or any sort of sensory organ on the Master of the knight. But it somehow knows about Mor's position. Or maybe even his intentions.

Hundreds of appendages attacks Mor. He dodges most and destroys the rest. He won't be stopped when he is so close to the finish line.

He is insignificant against a creature like that. Every single Chosen is nothing when compared to it. Even the one who healed thousands of Chosen in one go. But even if he is nothing.

He will still try to until he is dead.

And so, he comes to close to taking the frozen blessing from the hands of the Master of the knight. However, before that. The frozen blessing actives again and a spear is being targeted at Mor.

He notices it and his instincts are telling him that he should dodge. But he does. He won't be able to reach it. And so, his only option is to…

Mor sighs and let it pieces his chest. But it doesn't stop his momentum and he manage to steal the frozen blessing from the Master of the knight before it can disappear.

The sinned soul seemed watch Mor. How? He also isn't sure but his senses are screaming.

Master of the knight is almost about to disappear but before it does. A loud sound envelops the whole of blood valley. Nobody understood what it meant. Not even Mor.

However, if somewhere to understand it. Then it would mean.

"We will meet again, King…"

The Master of the knight disappear into the sky and Mor manages to take the frozen blessing from it. He feels satisfied. But now, he is plummeting down towards the ground.

He didn't think things through.

***

When Mor reached the ground. He felt nothing. His blessing canceled the force out. He was quite doubtful about his survival. But apparently his blessing can even make him survive a fall like that. He was lucky in that department.

But he was not lucky in other departments. Like he was pieced very close to his heart. It hurts a lot and he bled a lot. He shouldn't break the spear as if he does the blood will bleed out even faster.

After determining that, he ignores resting on the ground and starts walking to find his soldiers. He wasn't sure if they've survived or not. He was also worried about Chosen of hell too.

They might be acting on their instincts. But without them, his fight with the Master of the knight would've been difficult. They managed to take its attention so he could do his part.

They didn't intend to help him. But he still felt thankful.

Soon after few hours, he also found his soldiers safe and sound without much trouble. He said that but it was quite troublesome for his soldiers to survive and then find their leader.

Calus compared about how much he hated everything. But nobody really paid much attention to him.

Now that they're together, he thought of finding Midori. Mor's thinking was that she must have gone to find the frozen blessings hidden within the mountainous soul's corpse. That had to be the reason why Mor didn't saw her in the fight with the Master of the knight.

He doesn't like her much. But he hoped she survived too.

One of his soldiers can locate her with their blessing. And so, they went on to find the Midori.

Soon, they discover an entrance to move inside of the dead mountainous soul.

The inside of the creature was dead and had many oddities. The structure was unrecognizable from a ruin. There was writing that weren't comprehensible by Mor or any of his soldiers.

He continues onwards and then he found her.

There were many corpses of sinned souls. They were torn apart with terrible brutality. But one of the sinned soul's corpses looked familiar. He hoped that he was wrong about it.

But no, he was right. It was Midori. His soldier confirmed it.

Then he moved on. He wasn't heartlessly leaving her. If somebody dies then that's it. There is nothing else to do. You can't bury corpses as after death the human changes completely into a monster. So, are you going to bury a monster in place of the person who died? No.

And so, Mor moved on. But he feels regret. Maybe if he had good relation with his colleague then the result might have been different.

Maybe then she would be inclined to work with him. Or maybe he can then convince her to take his solders. He knows that she had a powerful frozen blessing in her hands. But it isn't invincible.

He regrets it but thinking about what if scenarios won't do anything. And so, he moves on forward.

The path was as destroyed as before. It was nothing but ruins in here. He wasn't sure if anyone can find a frozen blessing here. If a frozen blessing had to exist then it has to have its own hidden room.

Not so later, he finds that hidden room too. it wasn't as hidden but it was relatively hidden form sight.

He enters it and as he does. He finds a woman unconscious on the ground and near her. [Reduced to a pawn] was present. The frozen blessing used by Midori. Without any doubt, he understood that this Chosen is the one who managed to kill her.

With that logic, her presence in this room can explain that she took the frozen blessing that they were after. The frozen blessing of the king.

He also can guess that she might be related to that odd burst of healing that came out of nowhere.

With all that, Mor can't leave her. She isn't just the one who killed her colleague. She has also inherited the blessing of the king. Or perhaps, she absorbed it somehow.

That isn't important though.

What is important for Mor is to capture her. She will be taken to Sicksea region for answers.

And so, Skin was captured.

Nobody came to help her. Man-man didn't come to help someone who loved him more than her own life.
