Chapter 82 - Chapter 82: The Chosen Bloodlines

Here's the humanised, corrected version of your story:

The Star Mark

The world went completely silent the moment the Devourer's voice rolled across the sky.

I found you, Little Star.

Those words didn't reach my ears. They reached somewhere deeper, somewhere inside my chest, vibrating through me like a struck bell. I couldn't breathe. Kaiden's arm tightened around me without a word, and I was grateful for it.

Selene? His voice felt far away.

I could barely hear him. The enormous eyes beyond the shattered moon were fixed on me, unblinking, patient in the way that only something ancient and terrible could be.

Lyria stepped in front of us at once. Don't answer it.

Answer what? I whispered.

The connection. Her expression darkened like a storm rolling in. "It remembers her.

Aether shook his head, his jaw tight. No. It recognises the bloodline.

The Devourer's laughter spilt across the sky like thunder that wouldn't end.

Still hiding the truth from her?

At that moment, my mark burst into silver light. And beside it, slowly and unmistakably, a second symbol appeared, shaped like a star.

No one moved. No one spoke.

Lyria looked as though something had broken inside her. Aria tried to stop this from happening.

What does it mean? Kaiden demanded, his voice hard.

Lyria took a slow breath. Selene isn't simply the First Luna's successor. She paused. She was born with the Star Mark.

Silence swallowed the room.

Magnus frowned. And why exactly does that matter?

The Void Mother tilted her gaze toward the sky. Because the Devourer feeds on stars.

My blood ran cold. And I'm called Little Star.

Lyria met my eyes and nodded. Exactly.

The First Alpha spoke then, his voice low and heavy. There was a prophecy we buried long ago.

The Elders looked shaken. Are there more prophecies?

Only one more, Aether said, exhaling slowly. We destroyed every record of it.

Why? Lucien asked.

Because we were afraid of it.

The Devourer laughed again from above, that deep, rolling sound. Fear never changes.

The First Alpha looked directly at me. The prophecy spoke of a girl who carried the Star Mark. He paused, as though choosing each word carefully. It said she would either save all of existence or end it.

The silence that followed was absolute.

Kaiden stepped forward without hesitation. She won't destroy anything.

The First Alpha studied him for a long moment. You sound very certain of that.

"I am."

No hesitation. Not even a flicker of doubt.

For the first time, the First Alpha smiled. It was small, but it was real. Even someone who had lived through centuries of wars and betrayals could recognise loyalty when it stood before him.

Then Lyria spoke again, quietly. The prophecy had one more line.

Everyone turned to her.

She looked at Kaiden. The Star must never stand alone.

Before anyone could respond, Orion let out a pained groan.

All eyes shifted to him. He was clutching his chest, and golden light was spreading beneath his skin, moving like something alive.

Lucien stepped toward him. Orion?

Orion looked genuinely horrified. This is rather unfortunate timing.

Magnus narrowed his eyes. What's happening now?

Orion laughed, though it came out nervous and strained. It seems I've been keeping a secret. Several, actually.

His eyes changed. One turned silver. The other stayed gold.

The First Alpha went completely still. "No."

Aether stared, his face draining of colour. That's not possible.

Orion sighed. Yes, apparently impossible things are something of a theme in my life.

Nyra moved closer, her voice careful. Who are you?

The easy grin faded from Orion's face. For the first time since I had known him, he looked entirely serious.

My real name isn't Orion. He turned to Aether, and something passed between them. "Hello, brother.

Aether stumbled back as though he had been pushed.

The First Alpha breathed a single name. "Caelum."

The man who had called himself Orion smiled, though it carried a great deal of sadness. Hello, Father.

The room erupted.

Is he your brother? Ragnar shouted.

Caelum shrugged, trying to appear unbothered. "Half-brother, technically.

Aether was shaking. You died.

That's a rather rude thing to say.

"Caelum." Aether's voice broke completely. "You died."

All the lightness left Caelum's face. "No," he said quietly. I was hidden.

Lyria drew a sharp breath.

"Aria."

Caelum nodded. She saved me. The First Luna kept me safe.

The First Alpha pressed a hand over his face. How many secrets did she carry?

Enough to save all of us, Caelum answered. Then he looked at me. Just as she protected Selene.

Kaiden's eyes narrowed. You knew about Selene?

Not everything. But I had my suspicions.

The two brothers stood facing each other. Eight hundred years of silence stretched between them. Then, without warning, Aether swung his fist.

Everyone gasped.

Caelum blinked, pressing a hand to his jaw. Ow.

And then Aether pulled him into a hug, holding on tightly, like he was afraid to let go again.

For the second time that day, a legend wept.

The reunion lasted exactly thirty seconds.

Because the sky screamed.

Not thunder. Not wind. A raw, tearing scream that split the air and made the ground tremble. Everyone looked up.

The giant eyes beyond the moon were gone. But something else was descending: a single figure, human in shape but wrapped in black armour, with burning blue eyes and enormous wings made of pure darkness. It dropped from the sky and hit the ground outside the ruined arena with a force that cracked the earth beneath it.

Lyria went pale. "No."

The figure raised its head slowly. When it spoke, the voice was not its own. The Devourer was simply using it as a vessel.

Bring me the Little Star.

Kaiden stepped in front of me immediately. Magnus moved to his side. Aether and Caelum stood shoulder to shoulder. The First Alpha took his place beside Lyria. Nyra summoned crimson energy around her hands, ready.

For the first time in centuries, the entire family stood together. And they stood with me.

The messenger looked at each of them in turn. Then it laughed.

"Excellent."

Its wings spread wide, and darkness swallowed the sky.

The war for the stars had begun.
