DRAVEN

The fire in the hearth flickered low, casting long shadows across the stone walls of my chamber. Elara sat across from me at the small wooden table, her hands folded neatly in her lap. The simple meal she had prepared rested untouched between us for breakfast, the stew still steaming gently, the bread soft and warm.

She spoke softly, eyes shining in the dim light. "I have a lot to do to-day, I'm going to the healer's clan. Then, I'm joining the women in preparing to store food for the winter, and I'm helping the women organize supplies."

I nodded, appreciating the practical nature of her plan. "That sounds good." My voice was rough from the day's training, but there was a calm steadiness beneath.

She smiled, but then her expression grew curious, almost teasing.

"Besides training with the warriors, I don't often see you with the others. The pack. You're always here, or with the soldiers. Why is that?"
