Chapter 2 - Chapter 1 : Awakening

In a room belonging to a male student in Novehelm University dormitory

"The weather is really strange.." Gabriel complained lightly as he looked at the world through his window.

The sky was now dark as if it was night time. The air felt colder as it passed through the window into the room, but he could not appreciate the benefit as he walked to close the window. From the time it was supposed to be 7:00 AM in the morning,

He pulled out his phone to call his mother.

"Hey there, this is Miranda. Leave a message."

He frowned and tried again. Same result.

"Maybe she hasn't woken up yet…" he muttered, though something about that didn't sit right with him.

Letting out a quiet sigh, he turned and walked toward his closet, searching for thicker clothes.

Gabriel was just a normal 20-year-old student. His father had been an office worker before he passed away, and his mother worked as a teacher at an elementary school. He also had a younger sister—five years younger than him—named Abby. The four of them had lived together before everything, and now Abby was in high school in the capital. She was even planning to attend the same university as him in a couple of years.

As Gabriel rummaged through his clothes, the world suddenly trembled violently.

The ground shook.

Objects shifted.

The entire room rattled as if something massive had grabbed the earth itself.

"—What the—?!"

He grabbed onto the closet instantly, holding it tightly as it threatened to topple over onto him. His heart pounded as the shaking intensified.

After about ten seconds, everything seemed to return to normal. Things stopped moving, the few books he had were now on the floor, and some paintings that had almost fallen were no longer threatening to fall as the silence of the morning returned.

Gabriel slowly let go of the closet and turned toward the window again. Cold air rushed in, but this time, he ignored it completely.

Because the sky—

Had split open.

A massive tear stretched across the heavens, filled with swirling purple and blue energy colliding violently with each other. It twisted unnaturally, like reality itself had been ripped apart. And it was accompanied by a foul odor, an odor that almost caused him to gag.

"This… this isn't real…"

The sight was straight out of a sci-fi movie, it was as if various worlds were merging onto Earth. Monstrous creatures rained from the sky far off in the distance.

Gabriel's eyes widened.

"What… is this…?"

Before he could process it, screams erupted from below.

His body moved on instinct as he rushed to the window and looked down.

Chaos.

People were running in every direction, screaming, crying, begging for help as monstrous creatures chased them through the streets.

"Help!"

A girl ran desperately, her breathing uneven as she glanced back in terror. One of the monsters was right behind her. Oversights , she tripped. Her body hit the ground hard.

"Hey—watch out!" Gabriel shouted without thinking.unfortunately it was already too late as the monster's claw pierced her head, directly crushing her brain and killing her on the spot.

Gabriel froze.

The monster opened up her head and began to eat her brains, and after a few moments its body seemed to grow a little bigger before it stopped.

As if sensing something, the monster left the girl's corpse and shot straight at the male dormitory.

Gabriel's face changed "…No way."

when he saw the wolf-like monster charging into the dormitory. The wolf's speed was really fast and in just a few blinks it had crossed the dormitory door downstairs.

"Shit!"

Gabriel reacted instantly. He crouched behind the wall, gripping a bat lying close to his bed, his hands trembling slightly as he tightened his hold.

Heavy footsteps echoed through the building. As the wolf moved closer

"Human… you have been chosen to protect this world from these abominations."

The voice came from above. It stopped his thoughts completely.

Gabriel turned his head slowly—

And froze.

A woman floated in the air above him.

No—

Not just a woman.

Something… beyond human.

Her body shimmered like stardust, made of pure light, glowing softly in the dim room. Her presence alone felt overwhelming—ancient, powerful—yet strangely calm, like a gentle mother watching over a child.

In her outstretched hands floated a glowing sphere of energy.

Gabriel stared, unable to speak for a moment.

"…What…?"

Before he could even process it—

Scratching sounds came from his door. The monster had arrived.

Gabriel's grip on the bat tightened, his knuckles turning pale. His eyes darted between the door and the floating woman.

It's voice was calm.

"What do you mean… I've been chosen?" he asked, fear clear in his voice.

"Your world, as you know it, is ending. Worlds are merging into it. You have been chosen to protect this world from ending like the others… by a celestial being—Irpa."

With no time to ask back, the door was broken open as the wolf stepped in, its eyes fixed on Gabriel as it walked into the room with blood dripping from its jaws.

"Hey… if I am chosen th—" his voice shook as he turned back to the woman

She was gone.

Only the sphere remained, floating silently in front of him.

The wolf now moving closer towards him, with no hesitation. Gabriel didn't think as instantly his hand shot forward, grabbing the sphere as it dissolved instantly into his body.

(Ding)

A translucent screen appeared in front of him—

But he didn't have time to read it. As the wolf had vanished

Then—it was in front of him.

Its fangs sank into his outstretched arm.

"AAAGH!"

Pain shot through his body.

Instinct took over.

With his free hand, he swung the bat as hard as he could.

CRACK.

The bat smashed against the wolf's head. Blood splattered, running down his arm, mixing with his own.
