Chapter 110 - Chapter 110: Disguise?

Chapter 110: Disguise?

Hershel was well-versed in the Bible, and he also knew just how dark the twisted human heart could be.

Humans who had lost their shackles, lost order, lost control—nothing they did to their own kind would be surprising.

Especially Maggie, a young and beautiful woman.

Hershel didn't dare imagine what would happen after that group of strangers took Maggie away.

What should I do? What should I do?

What can I do?

The heart he had just calmed down a bit instantly jumped to his throat.

Extreme panic surged through his brain. Hershel's eyes went blank, briefly losing his ability to think.

Hershel's knees went weak and he fell to the ground, his entire person entering a state of shock.

Amid Beth's crying, Glenn stood dazed in place, looking at this scene of destruction so completely opposite from the peaceful days before.

Maggie's voice and smile floated through Glenn's mind—the playful fights in town, the joyful laughter at the farm, intimate moments of affection...

These scenes played like a movie before Glenn's eyes. It had only been a few days.

Glenn felt his nose sting with sourness. His hands clenched tightly, his body trembling slightly.

Jimmy quickly patted Glenn and said quietly, "The situation might not be that bad."

"The cattle are gone, the chickens and ducks are gone, the food storage is all gone—that group came for food."

"Maggie and the others were taken away not long ago. The faster we act, the safer Maggie will be."

Jimmy's words brought Glenn back to his senses. His experience in this cruel apocalypse told him that this was the golden rescue window.

That group was definitely moving supplies right now, their attention focused on the food. But as time passed, who knew what might happen.

Glenn took two steps forward, wanting to ask Caesar for help, to have Caesar send people to track down Maggie's whereabouts.

Just then, Hershel's aged, hunched figure threw itself before Caesar. Hershel lifted his head, his eyes looking at Caesar full of pleading. "Caesar, please help me. Help me find my daughter and family."

Patricia and Otis, the couple who had worked at Hershel's farm for so many years—Hershel had long since considered them family.

Hershel's voice was trembling, humble.

Caesar crouched down and grasped Hershel's shoulders, their eyes meeting as he said solemnly, "I will help you find Maggie and Patricia and the others."

Caesar didn't use finding Maggie and the others as a condition to force Hershel to join the ranch.

That would only make his image in his team members' minds become mercenary. Caesar wasn't just doing this for Hershel, but also for Glenn.

Hershel was stunned and thanked him repeatedly.

"Thank you, thank you, Caesar."

"I will repay you. I swear on my family's honor."

Hershel was a typical redneck. Family was very important to him. Swearing on his family was a sign of how seriously he took this.

Caesar didn't delay. He looked at Daryl. "Daryl, track them!"

Reliable Daryl nodded and strode toward the cattle pen, his team members following close behind.

Merle knew the seriousness of the situation. He glanced at Glenn and strode after Daryl. Merle's tracking ability was in no way inferior to Daryl's.

The two worked together, rapidly searching for clues.

Caesar walked to Glenn's side and patted his shoulder lightly. "Everything will be okay."

"We'll find them."

Caesar's eyes carried strong confidence, as if what he said was absolutely correct.

At this moment, it brought Glenn some confidence. A warm current surged through his heart, and his hands and feet regained strength.

"Thank you, Caesar."

"We're brothers. Brothers don't need to say these things."

"Caesar, we found where they went!" Merle's voice came, exceptionally quick.

Caesar led Glenn and the others in quick steps toward Merle.

They saw Merle and Daryl standing beside a row of footprints. The prints showed two side-by-side crescents, like a split heart shape.

One end of the prints connected to the cattle pen, the other led toward the woods on one side.

Daryl's calm voice rang out. "Although there aren't many cattle on the farm, they still couldn't take them all at once."

"Most likely they split off a few people to herd the cattle to their camp."

Daryl crouched down and pointed at several traces different from the cattle prints—marks left by shoes stepping down.

Daryl looked toward the woods, his gaze seeming to penetrate through the deep forest, reaching straight to the target.

"Their camp won't be far. They haven't been gone long. If we leave now, we'll find them before long."

"Good!" Caesar nodded and turned to look at Glenn.

"Glenn, take Jimmy and the others and stay at the farm. Look after Beth and Hershel."

Both Hershel and Beth had suffered significant psychological trauma. Caesar was going to kill people—bringing two burdens along wasn't convenient for action.

Moreover, Glenn's emotional state was currently unstable. Caesar worried that out of emotional agitation, he might attack rashly. Not only might he lose his own life, but he'd also drag others down with him.

Glenn's eyes widened as he looked at Caesar. "Caesar, I have to go."

Glenn was very firm, showing no sign of backing down.

Caesar said, "You need to think carefully. Your emotions are unstable right now, which could lead to the situation worsening. You must calm down—don't enter combat emotionally."

"Otherwise you'll drag down your teammates. Do you understand?"

"Even so, do you still choose to go?"

As Caesar spoke, he checked his firearm. The bullet in the chamber ejected, and Caesar caught it casually.

Glenn looked at Rick, Morgan, and Jimmy. All three returned looks of affirmation.

Only then did Glenn turn to look at Caesar, straightening his body. "Yes, I still choose to go."

"Fine. Hurry up and check your gun. Make sure when combat starts, your gun doesn't have problems." Caesar didn't try to persuade him further and patted Glenn's shoulder.

Since Glenn wasn't willing to stay, Caesar found Ford and had him and his squad members remain behind to look after Hershel and Beth.

Hershel didn't object. He knew that if he went along, he would only reduce his family's chances of survival.

Beth was still immersed in grief over Jimmy's death, crying breathlessly.

Hershel held Beth, comforting her again and again.

Caesar didn't concern himself with them. After everyone had finished checking their firearms, he led the group charging into the woods.

Caesar and the squad captains walked at the very front. Their speed was the fastest, flying past bushes and stepping over stones blocking the way.

The group moved like the wind, rapidly threading through the woods.

Along the way, the cattle herd's prints guided them like navigation. Daryl didn't even need to use his tracking ability anymore.

The traces left by the cattle herd were very obvious—not only footprints, but also surrounding bushes that had been chewed.

The enemy couldn't possibly disguise to this extent.

After advancing rapidly for a short time, Caesar's gaze sharpened. He raised his fist with one hand. The other team members quickly stopped and looked at Caesar.
