Chapter 35 - Chapter 34: First nickname

While Lala and Yuuji were each having their own mental chaos, Golden Darkness returned.

Noticing her presence, Yuuji turned around out of inertia and greeted her. "Yami, so you came back."

"Yami?" she asked, tilting her head slightly.

'It slipped out because I was thinking about other things' Yuuji thought when he realized he had accidentally used the name she is given later in the series.

"That... is a nickname. Calling you Golden Darkness every time is very long, so I shortened it" Yuuji excused himself.

{Author's Note: For those who don't know, her original name in Japanese is Konjiki no Yami, that is where her name comes from.}

"...I suppose that is fine" Yami said after thinking about it for a moment, with a slight smile that even she herself did not notice.

"Then I will call you Yami from now on. What did you find?"

"Just as we thought. Leviathan is not among them" Yami replied. "The entire group is temporarily under the command of her second in command, Serafall. I do not know what her relationship with Leviathan is, but Serafall is only low Maou level. Although she is powerful, I am her direct counter in attack, so I can contain her for a while.

Although if you want to kill her it will be somewhat difficult."

"No, do not kill her" Yuuji replied immediately.

With the system bringing him to a different moment than before, Yuuji had guessed the system's plan. They would probably go to the present of DxD at some point, so if he wanted to keep any advantage from knowing what would happen here, then killing one of the future Four Maou in advance was an absolute no.

After the plot of To Love Ru turned into chaos, Yuuji did not intend to let the same happen in DxD.

"Alright then." Yami shrugged, not really caring. "Is your attack ready?"

"Ready!" Lala answered for Yuuji, pulling out a small chip from her D-Dial and placing it on top of Yuuji's tarot card with the image of the Tower.

As soon as the chip connected, golden cracks spread from that point, extending across the entire card and giving it a strange appearance.

"Let me explain what I did" Lala said excitedly. "What you have is a transformer, although not in the literal sense.

Basically you have a large amount of destructive energy inside that card. The card's job is to serve as a medium, releasing the destructive energy and giving it shape.

What I did was separate the purification effect, which is what damages demons, from the gathered holy energy and concentrate it all into this small chip.

When you activate the card, releasing its energy, the chip will do the same, mixing both together.

In short, your attack now has the holy attribute, although it is single use."

"Then let us go right away" Yuuji nodded, quickly understanding.

"Wait!" Lala stopped Yuuji and Yami, who were already preparing to fly.

She approached Yami and handed her a hairpin designed like two white wings.

"This will also give you the holy attribute for half an hour."

Yami nodded in understanding and placed the hairpin on the side of her head, next to her ear, before turning toward Yuuji.

"With this I can kill her completely. Are you sure you do not want me to do it?" A flash of excitement shone in her eyes as she asked, but Yuuji shook his head again.

"I am sure. Leave her alive, and with all her parts, if possible."

"...Fine" Yami finally nodded, somewhat disappointed.

...

"Is it here?"

"Yes" Yami nodded.

With the three of them elevated in the air, the ground looked incredibly small.

Even so, for the three of them, the thousands of demons below in their positions were perfectly visible.

Unlike the previous village, where there had only been low level angels, here every demon was at least high rank and they did not have useless routines.

Even before noticing them, they were already in formation, always alert to unexpected enemies.

And unlike the angels, when they appeared they did not start attacking senselessly and obstructing the entire battlefield.

They all stopped at the same time and looked toward the sky in their direction without moving, making the footsteps of the only person who did move sound even louder.

Down there, a young looking woman, around twenty years old, perhaps a little less, with her hair styled in two long black twin tails, first looked toward the sky while narrowing her eyes, then bent her legs preparing herself and finally jumped straight toward them.

The ground cracked beneath her and a sonic boom echoed when Serafall reached them in less than a second.

When she arrived beside them she spread her demonic wings and stopped, floating next to them.

"So we have guests?" she asked with a smile as her gaze moved across the three before stopping on Yami.

"Golden Darkness? I thought you could not fly" she said, surprised and excited at the same time.

"I do not go around announcing it" Yami replied dryly, not matching Serafall's animated attitude.

"Then? What are you doing here? Are you not supposed to only kill those who harm humans in front of you?" she asked curiously.

"You knew?"

"Most of the big figures know. They simply do not tell those below. Making them believe that humans also have powerful people actively participating in the war makes them more alert, considering we are fighting in human territory after all" Serafall explained.

"I see." Yami acknowledged the efficiency of the strategy before answering honestly. "I came to kill your entire army."

Serafall raised an eyebrow, but she did not seem very surprised.

"It does not seem to be your idea. Who are these individuals who can make even Golden Darkness follow them?" she asked, finally directing her gaze at Yuuji and Lala.

"I am Lala Satalin Deviluke, a pleasure" Lala said, making a formal bow while introducing herself.

"Noble manners? But none that I recognize. A hidden civilization?"

"No, we simply come from another world" Yuuji interrupted.

Serafall heard his words and registered them in her mind, but more than anything she noticed the urgency in his voice and that he seemed to be the one in command, so she prepared to fight immediately.

Indeed, as soon as Yuuji finished speaking he looked at Yami, who nodded and moved toward Serafall in the blink of an eye.

Both twin tails transformed into giant blades that cut in opposite directions.

Serafall placed her arms on both sides, successfully blocking both saws, but not Yami's kick directly to her stomach that sent her flying several dozen meters back.

Serafall forced herself to stop in the air and looked at the wounds on her arms.

"Holy energy?"

"Talk less, fight more" Yami said, turning her hair into two sharp strips of metal that twisted together, becoming a powerful drill that forced Serafall to cover herself again by crossing her arms over her chest.

Hundreds of meters away, Yuuji and Lala watched this before stopping paying attention, trusting that Yami would win.

Although the confrontation between Serafall and Yami had only lasted four seconds in total, that was enough for the demons below to also take action, all heading toward the other two intruders.

However, unlike Serafall, who crossed the distance and reached them in less than a second, they would take at least ten seconds to reach as high as Lala and Yuuji were, higher even than the few clouds in the sky.

Ten seconds that Yuuji did not intend to give them.

He took out the tarot card and, while holding it in his hand, activated it with a single thought.

What happened was exactly the same as last time. The card floated on its own, positioning itself in the center of the enemies, high in the sky.

However, unlike before, when it disappeared discreetly, this time a large halo of golden light surrounded it.

All the demons suddenly stopped when they felt the holy energy from that halo and their expressions twisted in disgust.

Before they could react, an enormous intangible tower materialized and fell in their direction, passing through all of them without harming them.

Even so, they all felt the irritation of the holy energy within it.

However, it was only irritation, not strong enough to actually harm them. So just like the angels and fallen last time, they ignored the Tower when they saw that it did not hurt them, only to die when it began to crumble and the cracks spread everywhere.

Destructive energy slowly swept across the area while holy energy infiltrated their bodies, destroying them from the inside.

By the time the destructive energy finished corroding the exterior, nothing remained inside, because it had been completely disintegrated by the holy energy that infiltrated them.

Thus, without even being able to react or understand what was happening, the Leviathan army was completely annihilated.

Only one demon from the group remained alive.

At this moment she was chained with metal shackles that restrained all four of her limbs.

"Damn it, if it were not because you are very fast and because of this annoying holy energy" Serafall complained. "It is not fair, let me summon my Super Ultra Deadly Final Attack and I will defeat you."

"Why would I let you summon something like that?" Yami said, genuinely surprised by Serafall's way of thinking.

"Tsk, fine. Your friends are coming" Serafall complained.

"Yami, you finished" Yuuji said when he saw Serafall chained.

"Yes, I see you did too" Yami replied while looking at the ground, somewhat surprised.

'Would I have survived that?' she wondered, but then shook her head. 'It does not matter, I would never have let him use something like that. By the time he took out the card he would no longer have a head.'

"You! Are you the pair that appeared here ten years ago?" Serafall asked.

'Ten years?' Yuuji was surprised to discover that so much time had passed since the last time.

"Do not try to fool me. That giant tower is the attack that wiped out a village of angels and fallen a decade ago" Serafall explained when she saw Yuuji's silence and believed he was pretending not to know.

"Yes, that was us" Yuuji nodded.

"Then what is your plan? Why am I still alive?" she asked.

"It does not matter why. I only need you to know that I will leave you alive on one condition" Yuuji said.

"You... want my body? Although all demons are prepared to die since we come to war, so I do not really mind that you killed everyone, that does not mean I will sleep with their killer" Serafall said with a faint blush.

"I do not care about your body" Yuuji replied. For some reason he felt Lala staring at him behind his back. "I simply want you to withdraw from Leviathan's army."

"That is all?" Serafall asked in confusion.

"That is right, simple, correct?" Yuuji nodded. "Of course, if you dare to rejoin at any point I will make sure to kill not only you, but also your entire family."

"Are you a demon perhaps?" Serafall said jokingly. "Fine, fine, whatever. As long as you leave me and my family alive, I will withdraw from Leviathan's army, happy?"

[Mission completed]

Yuuji quickly grabbed Lala and Yami and, while disappearing, said goodbye.

"Alright, we will see each other again in a few centuries."

Yuuji said this as he disappeared with Lala and Yami, returning to his world.

When he appeared in the same place where they had left last time, Yuuji sighed in relief.

'Good, I think I should not have caused too much chaos, right?' he thought.

He simply eliminated an army, and not even the real powerhouse among them.

What could that possibly trigger?
