The next issue was, of course, Evelyn.
She was the exact opposite of Luke. Short, decently attractive, and boasting a personality that was only cold to those who had insulted her in the past, whereas Luke was tall, a boy, and completely uninterested in any sort of real relationships of any kind, she could easily be said to be his foil.
That left a large, gaping hole in the narrative.
How did they know each other? And why were they so close?
Michael had no illusions as to the relationship between them. If it was anything other than a master to servant bond, then he was the queen of the fencing and forgery extracurricular.
The only questions were...
Well, the questions were where, when, why, what, and how. And Michael didn't have the answers.
However, he did know a few things.
For starters, Evelyn's emotional reliance on Luke was clear. Everything she did, it's worth was based on Luke's reaction. That much was clear even now as she continues to try to down two zombies in on blow wherever they found groups, because of Luke's approval.
However, this didn't necessarily mean that they had been together for a long time. After all, Michael had heard about her a few times, and had seen her play as well, and she seemed generally emotionally unstable, and was wont to define her self-worth based on others' opinions of her.
That could mean that they had actually formed this relationship more recently, and Evelyn had just already become that attached.
But he didn't think that they were a couple. And there were some decently solid reasons for that.
A few people had tried to date Evelyn in the past. One of them, who had tried to take advantage of her, had gotten an arm, a leg, and three ribs snapped clean in two, and his lower half had been paralyzed from a displaced spine and thereby a severed spinal cord.
Michael personally though he deserved much worse. Rapists shouldn't be punished any way other than indefinite impriaonment, or worse, in his opinion. But the guy had gotten off on only intent, and therefore he'd been able to dodge most of the proper sentence.
But that aside, her other past boyfriends had all left her quite quickly, each one saying that they felt unsafe around her. Michael assumed that she had a strange obsession or taste that had scared them off. That wasn't exactly abnormal, but Michael didn't know what it was.
This proved only that she was exceptionally strong. Or, it would have only proved that, if the one who had been hurt hadn't been using a combat-design dagger.
That put her speed, at the very least, at five times that of an average unenhanced human, and her strength indeterminable, but Michael was safely able to assume that it was at least that, if not a whole lot more.
If she were Luke's girlfriend, due to her nature, she would likely be a lot more clingy and a lot less eager to go out and do things that weren't within five or so feet of him. At least, that was what he had seen with each of her former boyfriends, at least the ones he had witnessed.
And if their relationship stretched past a year or so, then she would have been dating two people at once which, while legal, required adherence to certain stipulations under the law, the first of which was absolute transparency.
It was such a stupid concept that their society had grown past it a long time ago. It was
