If it were a test from Baizao, he would naturally have to be careful and stay low-key; he'd just stay put and be done with it.
If it were a scheme from Kaschey, he would have to move and go on high alert.
But a single error in judgment... at best, he'd lose Lungmen, and at worst, he'd lose his life.
What? You say she has nothing to do with either side and just came to deliver a letter like she said?
Hah, who would believe that? At least Wei Yenwu didn't.
If you really just came to deliver a letter, why cause so much trouble? Wouldn't it be better to just deliver the letter and be done with it?
So, Wei Yenwu didn't believe a word of it.
In reality, Xia Yu truly hadn't planned on causing trouble in Lungmen. She just wanted to stay for a while to research what she'd been wanting to do, then head to the Snowfield to bring some supplies to the Guerrillas before heading to Kazdel to play the role of an angel investor.
It couldn't be helped—the supplies she had extorted from Schicksal and Anti-Entropy couldn't just sit in storage forever, right? What was the harm in spending a little of all that stuff?
As for mocking Wei Yenwu... it was purely because it made her happy. As for what Wei Yenwu thought?
None of my business. If he dares to make a move, my blade is plenty sharp!
Although Bailu's body didn't have much combat power, she had accumulated many tricks after traveling through several worlds, not to mention she could switch bodies at any time.
Of course, Wei Yenwu didn't know this. He was currently immersed in the feeling that 'there are always villains out to get me.'
After careful consideration, he realized that until he determined the origins of that Draconic Girl calling herself Bailu, he couldn't do anything. He could only wait and see.
He didn't dare investigate Baizao.
So, he could only mobilize the spies on the Ursus side.
He'd have them look into the truth behind that missing fleet in the Snowfield.
As for that Draconic Girl... sigh, Xiao Chen would just have to suffer a bit.
Let her look after the girl for a while longer.
"So this is the LGD?" Xia Yu looked curiously at the massive building before her.
To be fair, the LGD was a major department responsible for the security of all of Lungmen, and they even handled foreign incursions. It was a powerful department that combined both military and police powers, and the headquarters was quite impressive.
"Yeah. Once we're inside, just stay in my office," Chen Huijie said with a surge of motivation. "I'll have someone bring you some pastries. There are also many books I've collected in the office. If you don't like them, tell me, and I'll find something else to keep you entertained."
After learning about Talulah's situation, she had been in this 'I'm going to work myself to death' mode since the moment they left.
She had clearly taken Xia Yu's words to heart.
Chen Huijie looked at the tiny Draconic Girl she was leading and sighed.
Originally, she wanted to leave her in her apartment, but her uncle's order was that she had to be kept by her side at all times—someone had to watch her.
Besides, the girl had brought her a letter. It wouldn't feel right if she couldn't host her properly and just threw her at home and ignored her.
So, she could only bring her along to the LGD, let her get used to the place first, and then find someone to help take her around Lungmen.
"Books, huh? Not very interesting," Xia Yu shook her head. What kind of books would be in Chen Huijie's office?
She didn't know, but she was certain they wouldn't be very fun.
"I'll just stick to researching my abilities."
She shrugged and said.
Thus, the two of them, one big and one small, walked into the LGD hand-in-hand.
Along the way, everyone fixed their gazes on them.
This left Chen Huijie completely baffled.
"So, Hoshiguma," she said as she entered her office and looked at her friend who had followed them in, "I was only gone for a morning. Why is everyone staring at me like their eyes are glued to me now that I'm back?"
"You don't know yet?" Hoshiguma was greatly surprised. Then she leaned down and looked with a smile at Xia Yu, who was sitting on the office reception chair. Her intimidating height meant that even while squatting, she was level with the seated Xia Yu.
"Little one, who's your mama?" As she spoke, her eyes kept darting toward Chen Huijie.
The latter reacted immediately. Previously, she hadn't realized it simply because as a 'steel-straight' woman with a mind full of work, she lacked that self-awareness. But after Hoshiguma's words, if she still couldn't figure it out, she shouldn't be a Superintendent anymore.
"What on earth are you thinking?" Chen Huijie said helplessly. "I'm not in that kind of relationship with her! Who started this rumor?"
"That sort of thing doesn't matter," Hoshiguma waved her hand. "The moment you walked into the LGD holding her hand, you were beyond clearing your name."
"Am I... that kind of person?" Chen Huijie looked at Hoshiguma in annoyance.
"Of course I know you aren't," Hoshiguma spread her hands and teased. "Honestly, if you really did bring your own child here to play, I'd actually breathe a sigh of relief. At least I wouldn't have to worry about you dying alone in the second half of your life."
"But for a block of wood of your model, it's looking bleak."
"So, little one," Hoshiguma looked at Xia Yu again, "who is she to you? Your Aunt? Big sister?"
"Mission target," Xia Yu rolled her eyes at her. "A simple relationship of sender and receiver."
"Oh, impressive," Hoshiguma reached out, intending to pat the little cutie's head. "Working as a messenger at such a young age?"
Xia Yu swatted her hand away, rolled her eyes, and then looked at Chen Huijie.
'Aren't you going to do something?'
"Hoshiguma, don't be rude," Chen Huijie could only speak up. "This is an honored guest."
"She certainly looks like an honored guest," Hoshiguma nodded and said with conviction. "With these looks, nobody would believe it if you said she wasn't."
"What is Wei Yenwu thinking?" Xia Yu asked bluntly. "He doesn't dare show his face before me, so he sent you to scout for information?"
"Ha, little miss," Hoshiguma's gaze flickered for a moment before she spoke up heartily, "Hey, a Chief Executive or whatever, how could I ever get in contact with him..."
"So he's questioning my identity?" Xia Yu nodded. "Is he unsure? Doesn't know if I'm from Baizao or Ursus? Hmph, Wei Lao'er only has this much backbone."
"He's paranoid all day long. I wonder if he even sleeps with one eye open."
"Sigh, little miss, with your status, you can naturally discuss the Governor," Hoshiguma shrugged. "But a minor LGD staff member like me can't withstand the pressure of the Chief Executive."
Her face was written with the look of someone whose life is not their own while in the world of men.
"Go buy me a portion of the best wontons," Xia Yu raised an eyebrow and said, "and I'll forgive you."
"Wontons, right?" Hoshiguma chuckled. "Leave it to me. By the way, Old Chen, do you want some?"
Chen Huijie couldn't help but reach out and touch her stomach; it was still bulging and full. Honestly, she rarely ate this much.
But it was just too delicious. Before she knew it...
"I'll pass," she shook her head. She really couldn't eat another bite.
"Then I'll go right—"
Before Hoshiguma could finish, the door to Chen Huijie's office was pushed open with a bang.
"Rice Roll Dragon, do you want to die!" Swire rushed in, baring her claws. "Don't take me for a weakling just because I haven't shown my teeth!"
Just a few minutes ago, Swire—who hadn't even had time to eat after taking over the work temporarily—had just finished organizing the case-related information and was waiting to move forward.
Then, the team members on Chen Huijie's side told her a piece of news that hit her like a thunderclap.
The Rice Roll Dragon was back.
And she was going to continue following this case.
Swire exploded on the spot. Didn't you say you had important business and needed leave? I finally finished organizing the info after taking over, and now you say you're back?
Swire wasn't a petty person. If Chen Huijie had personally told her and asked for her help, she would have teased her at most, but she still would have helped.
And the result? After pulling something like this, she didn't even say a word of thanks and just had people come to her for the files!
Was there anything more outrageous than this?
Swire rushed all the way in with a huff.
"Come on, tell me what this means!" She barked with her hands on her hips. "Chen Huijie, you've gone too far!"
"You're the one who said you had an emergency and asked me to fill in. Good grief, your 'emergency' sure was brief, huh? Done in a single morning?"
"That's it? Why did you come to me to fill in? Couldn't you have just let your own team members do this?"
She felt she had been played.
"Uh, about that..." Chen Huijie wasn't as self-righteous as when they usually bickered. After all, she really was in the wrong this time.
"The matter has been settled..."
She didn't know either. She hadn't expected the big deal that had Wei Yenwu in such a panic to be so easy. And just now... it was her ambitious desire to do something big that made her subconsciously ignore Swire's situation.
"So you really were just making a fool of me, weren't you?" To her surprise, Swire got even angrier upon hearing this.
The little tiger's eyes turned red with grievance. She had been kind enough to fill in for her, yet she had been treated like a sucker!
Even though they were always bickering, Swire actually considered her a friend.
And this was the result? She had been working for her without even having had a chance to eat!
Chen Huijie, I misjudged you!
"Ahem," Hoshiguma hurriedly tried to defuse the situation. "Missy, there's a child here, keep your voice down."
"Hm? A child?" Swire looked down and met Xia Yu's eyes on the chair.
"Where did this kid come from?" she asked subconsciously.
Although the gossip had already spread throughout the LGD and everyone was curious about the identity of the girl with Chen Huijie.
After all, Chen Huijie was a pure workaholic. Even if it were her own daughter, no one could imagine her bringing a daughter to work.
Not to mention she usually lacked any feminine touch, so the contrast was even greater. By now, the entire LGD likely knew this gossip.
Except for Swire. After all, she had really been doing Chen Huijie's work all morning and hadn't even had time to eat, so where would she find time to listen to gossip?
"These horns, this tail?" She scrutinized Xia Yu, then turned to Chen Huijie. "Is this your niece?"
"Missy, couldn't it be an even closer relationship?" Hoshiguma said with a grin.
"Impossible," Swire shook her head decisively and said, "Her? How could she have a daughter, especially one this big?"
She didn't even mention a sister, because she knew about Chen Huijie's family... sigh.
"But everyone in the LGD is guessing that," Hoshiguma suppressed a smile. "Just now when Old Chen walked in holding her hand..."
"Hoshiguma!" Before she could finish, she was interrupted by a humiliated and angry Chen Huijie. "I never noticed you loved gossip so much before!"
"Also, I really didn't do it on purpose," she looked at Swire again. "My mind just didn't switch over for a moment. My mission was just to pick her up and then take care of her for a while."
"So you brought the child back to the LGD?" Swire smacked her forehead in despair. "Which niece of yours is this? Never mind, it's not important. What's important is that you actually accepted a mission to look after someone and then brought her to the LGD?"
"Rice Roll Dragon, you really are... beyond help!"
Even Swire, who truly came to the LGD out of sincere motivation, couldn't help but complain in her heart: 'Just how much do you love working!'
"No, I..." Chen Huijie wanted to explain further, but Swire waved her hand and cut her off.
"Little one, what's your name?" Swire squatted down and asked Xia Yu with a smile.
"You just said you haven't eaten?" Xia Yu didn't answer but asked back.
"That's right, big sister hasn't eaten yet," Swire thought the little Draconic Girl before her looked cuter the more she looked at her. "Want to go out and eat with big sister?"
"I'll pass on going out," Xia Yu shook her head, then waved her hand.
A pot of steaming red wine braised beef (Loong Balm version) emerged from the Gate of Babylon. Then, Xia Yu drew Shamash with practiced ease, took out a few cups of instant noodles, threw the noodles directly into the middle of the beef, and placed the pot on top of Shamash.
After adjusting Shamash's temperature, she pulled out a greatsword and placed it on the desk. She then took out some green onions, casually drew Chi Xiao from Chen Huijie's waist, and began chopping.
"By the way, do you eat cilantro?" After chopping the green onions, Xia Yu took out a bunch of cilantro and looked at Swire.
"I'm not a picky eater..." the latter said, dumbfounded.
"That's good," Xia Yu nodded in satisfaction. "Not being picky is a good habit."
She then finished with the cilantro in two quick strokes, took out various other ingredients—some recognizable like mushrooms, others unrecognizable like sea cucumbers and vermicelli—and added them to the pot after finely preparing them.
Then came all sorts of seasonings, added quite haphazardly. In less than ten minutes, a fragrant pot of hodgepodge stew was freshly served.
Xia Yu put away Shamash and casually sheathed Chi Xiao back. Looking at the hodgepodge stew in her hand, which was perfect in color, aroma, and taste, she nodded in satisfaction.
Then she pushed the pot between herself and Swire.
"Here, want to eat together?"
