(JASPER'S POV)
Roland stood with his arms folded, watching him with an expression that gave absolutely nothing away.
My father took that silence as permission to get louder.
"Look at these filthy creatures! These strangers, these vermin, sitting in the seat of the gods! And you stand there with your arms folded like some invited guest?"
His voice cracked. His face was growing redder by the second, and I could practically see his remaining dignity scrambling for the nearest exit.
"You have the power to end every last one of them where they stand!" he shouted. "You could wipe this entire temple clean in a heartbeat! And instead, you stand there watching while they tear down everything the demon realm has ever built!"
He was nearly crying now. Not from remorse, of course. My father would sooner swallow a lit coal than feel sorry for anyone he'd hurt. No, this was the sound of a man watching his precious kingdom slip through his fingers.
