When no one was looking, Nina Jacobs led Ben Stone to the mall's underground parking garage.
The entrances and exits to the parking garage were blocked by cars, but it was no problem to walk through the middle.
Nina Jacobs gave Ben Stone a matching raincoat and protective suit.
"Why do I have to wear this? My mom said someone was coming to pick me up in a car."
Ben Stone grumbled but put it on anyway.
"You'll see once we're outside. Cars can't get in at all. If you want to leave, your only choice is to follow me."
Nina Jacobs doubted whether Ben Stone could make it the rest of the way.
Her worries were not unfounded.
The two of them finally made it out of the garage, but before they had gone far, Ben Stone refused to walk any further.
The acid rain was still pouring. Nina Jacobs spotted a few electric scooters that had fallen over on the side of the road and hurried toward them.
