Chapter 1 - Chapter One: A New Chapter

Jasmine's laughter danced through the halls of the mansion like a rabbit hopping to eat its favorite carrot.

She spun across the living room, her bright yellow sundress swirling around her knees cutely. The polished marble floors reflected the glow of the morning sun, making the entire room shimmer.

"Mommy! Mommy!" she shouted, twirling again while running down the stairs, heading towards her parent's office room.

Inside the room, Karen Gale lifted her head from the mountain of documents scattered across her desk. The woman's sharp business expression melted instantly when her eyes landed on her daughter, Jasmine Clifford.

A warm smile curved her lips, making her beautiful face glow even more.

"Hey, you rascal, quit running the stairs for crying out loud, you might fall, okay?", Karen shouted, but her eyes lit up with a smile.

"Mummy, I won't fall", the little girl screamed back with excitement.

"Mm, Jasmine, darling, come on, tell mama, what's got you glowing like a little star today huh," Karen said gently, setting her pen aside.

Jasmine skipped toward her and flung her arms around her mother's neck as she playfully stucked her tongue out.

"Today's the day, mommy! We're moving back to the capital city!, I can't wait to see our new home!"

Karen's eyes sparkled with anticipation, her grip on jasmine tightening " I know, baby, it's going to be fun and exciting. A fresh start for all of us and you get to meet your uncles and aunties again".

"Yes,.. and we get to see grandpa Owen too", Jasmine said as squealed with joy.

Karen chuckled softly, pulling her daughter closer. She breathed in the familiar scent of Jasmine's strawberry shampoo — a small comfort in the storm of responsibilities weighing on her shoulders.

"New friends! New places! Maybe even a bigger garden!"

Karen smiled, brushing a strand of hair from Jasmine's

"Hmmm."

But as she said the word, her gaze drifted toward the tall windows across the room.

Toward the man standing there.

Lancaster Clifford.

Jasmine followed her mother's gaze and saw her father standing silently by the window, his tall figure rigid as he stared out at the endless stretch of greenery beyond the estate.

His reflection in the glass looked stern, like a man carrying thoughts he wasn't ready to share.

Jasmine slipped from her mother's embrace and walked over.

"Daddy?" she called softly.

Lancaster didn't respond immediately.

He seemed lost somewhere far away.

Jasmine tugged lightly at the sleeve of his suit.

"Daddy!"

That finally brought him back.

Lancaster looked down, and the cold sharpness in his blue eyes softened instantly when he saw her.

"Well, look who it is," he said, kneeling slightly to meet her gaze.

"Aren't you excited?" Jasmine asked, her eyes sparkling.

Lancaster forced a small smile.

"Of course, kiddo."

He ruffled her hair gently.

"It's a big step for the Clifford family."

Jasmine tilted her head.

She didn't fully understand what "big step" meant.

Her parents were always talking about things like companies, shareholders, and the empire. Words that sounded important… but felt very far away from her simple world of school, friends, and cartoons.

All she knew was that they were leaving.

Leaving the only home she had ever known.

Karen walked over and placed her hand on Lancaster's arm.

"It's a new chapter for us," she said quietly.

Lancaster's jaw tightened almost imperceptibly.

"A fresh start."

For a brief moment, silence hung in the air.

Then Lancaster nodded.

"Yes."

But his eyes said something different.

Jasmine felt a smiled happily at her parents without a care of the world they belong to.

She didn't understand it.

The rest of the day passed in a blur.

Boxes filled the mansion.

Workers moved furniture.

Voices echoed through the halls.

Jasmine spent the afternoon saying goodbye to her friends.

Tears were shed. Promises were made.

"You have to visit!" her best friend Mia cried.

"I will!" Jasmine insisted.

But deep down, she wasn't sure if that promise could truly be kept.

"Aren't you done yet, Jassy", Karen shouted from the gates.

"Coming mama"

As evening fell, the family car finally pulled away from the grand estate.

Jasmine looked out the window as the gates slowly closed behind them.

For the first time, her excitement softened into something else.

A quiet sadness.

"Goodbye," she whispered.

Hours later, the capital city appeared on the horizon.

And Jasmine forgot her sadness instantly.

"Whoa!"

Her face pressed against the window.

Tall buildings stretched into the sky like giants. Neon lights flickered to life as the city buzzed with endless energy.

Cars honked.

People rushed along the sidewalks.

The city was alive.

"It's so big!" Jasmine gasped.

Karen smiled faintly.

"Yes."

Their new home soon came into view.

A magnificent mansion stood proudly on a hill overlooking the entire city.

The gates opened slowly.

Jasmine nearly burst out of the car before it even stopped.

She ran through the house like an explorer discovering treasure.

"Mom! Dad! There are three staircases!"

"And a fountain!"

"And the garden is huge!"

Her laughter echoed through the empty halls.

For a moment, it felt like pure happiness.

she could contain the happiness she felt deep inside.

But later that night, as Jasmine wandered down the hallway searching for the kitchen, she passed the study.

The door was slightly open.

Inside, her parents were speaking.

Lancaster's voice was low and tense.

"The board is watching closely, Karen."

Karen rubbed her temples.

"I know."

"The shareholders are getting impatient."

Karen sighed deeply.

"I'll handle it."

"You always say that."

"And I always do."

Silence followed.

Jasmine stood frozen outside the door.

She didn't understand the conversation.

But she understood the tensed moment, wanting to be a good girl, she kept quiet and slowly, she stepped away and returned to her room.

Days turned into weeks.

Jasmine started school.

She made new friends.

She explored the gardens and every secret corner of the mansion.

But something still felt… strange.

Her parents smiled and laughed happily.

But sometimes Jasmine caught them staring into the distance with worried expressions.

As if shadows followed them everywhere.

Then one afternoon, everything changed.

Jasmine was walking through the garden after an afternoon picnic when she heard laughter.

Her father's laughter.

She stopped.

Lancaster rarely laughed.

Curious, Jasmine peeked through the hedges.

And that's when she saw her.

A woman stood beside Lancaster.

Tall.

Elegant.

Her raven-black hair shimmered under the sunlight, and her piercing green eyes sparkled as she laughed softly at something Lancaster had said.

But what caught Jasmine's attention the most…

Was the way her father looked at the woman.

It wasn't the same look he gave Karen.

It wasn't the same look he gave Jasmine.

It was something else.

Something unfamiliar.

Something more different than usual.

Jasmine's small heart skipped a beat.

Her instincts whispered something she couldn't quite explain.

That moment…

That woman…

Was the beginning of something that would change their lives forever.
