Chapter 41 - Shock Floor

The sky above the Black Dragon Mountains suddenly turned a deep gray, as if the clouds were solidifying into liquid concrete ready to spill over and sweep across the earth. The night breeze no longer carried the freshness of the forest, but instead the scent of stone dust and a sharp chill—a sign that the "static load" in the border region would soon turn into a devastating "shock load."

Yoe Choin, in the body of Moen Kang Yo, stood on the balcony of the Main Pavilion, holding a piece of paper from a dove he had just read. Under the flickering light of the oil lamp, his face looked as calm as the surface of the water in his Qi storage tank, which had reached Internal Finishing Level 3.

"Gwi-Hyuk," Choin called, his voice a baritone and even.

The "Silent Shadow" emerged from the darkness of the sturdy teak pillars. He made no sound, but his eyes stared at Choin with a devotion that was now as hard as the reinforced concrete pillars.

"Tell Baek-Un, Han So-Wol, and Instructor Ma. An emergency coordination meeting in the blueprint room right now," Choin ordered.

"Tell them the 'inspector' team from Mount Hua has passed through the Red Cloud city gate. Our concrete's curing time is up. Now, it's time for the real pressure test."

A few moments later, in a room filled with scrolls of technical maps and trap schematics, the four main pillars of Evernight Gate gathered. The atmosphere was heavy. The smell of fresh ink mixed with the aroma of Baek-Un's wine and the fragrance of Han So-Wol's calming incense.

"So, they're really here," Baek-Un, the strategist, said as he slowly put down his bottle of wine. His previously dull eyes now glinted like drill bits.

"How many 'materials' are they bringing, Foreman?"

"Jo-Sun's report says around fifty men," Choin replied, pointing to a spot on the mock-up map.

"Led by an elder in a golden plum blossom robe. They didn't come to negotiate. They came to completely demolish our sect."

Han So-Wol, the finance manager, adjusted her glasses with slightly trembling fingers.

"Foreman, our coffers are currently in surplus after the seizure of Elder Gong's assets, but the operating costs of keeping the entire sonic maze running for extended periods are astronomical. Every hour the mechanism runs, we burn thousands of silver coins to maintain its energy crystals."

Choi stared at So-Wol with a gaze that glowed blue.

"So-Wol, listen to me. In security investments, there's no such thing as 'too expensive' when it comes to the integrity of the main structure. Give me the full budget. I'd rather have our coffers empty than see this building razed to the ground."

So-Wol was silent, but slowly nodded.

"Yes, Foreman. I'll ensure the supply of food and Qi crystals continues uninterrupted until this battle is over."

It was 2:00 a.m. Choi stepped toward the now pitch-black front gate area, but he could sense the presence of the Demolition Unit on standby. There, he found Jin-Pyo sharpening a giant steel nail with a whetstone.

"Jin-Pyo," Choin greeted softly.

The honest giant immediately stood upright, saluting with his hand across his chest.

"Foreman! I just checked the lateral hooks on the 'Shock Floor' in zone B. There was a little friction, but I've lubricated it with lard."

Choin patted Jin-Pyo's rock-solid shoulder.

"You did a good job, Jin-Pyo. Listen, when the 'audit' begins, never push yourself beyond your capacity. If the enemy is too strong, use the building's gravitational momentum. Remember, you're not just a fighter; you're part of this foundation."

"I understand, Foreman," Jin-Pyo replied in a raspy, determined voice.

"If they want to bring down this gate, they'll have to crush my body to rubble first."

Choin smiled faintly. The social bonds he'd built through "heart management" had proven far stronger than any slave chains Elder Gong had ever used.

As dawn began to break over the eastern horizon, casting a blood-red hue on the mountain mist, the tinkling of the border bells began to be heard.

From behind the mist, a line of white robes emerged, a stark contrast to the black Evernight ground. They moved with a light step, leaving almost no footprints—a Plum Blossom Step technique that, in Choin's eyes, was a waste of potential energy for the sake of aesthetics.

At the head of the line, an old man with a very long white beard and robes embroidered with golden plum blossoms stood proudly. Beside him was Song Jin, the senior disciple Choin had humiliated the previous day on the border bridge.

"Moen Kang Yo! Get out, you bastard!" Song Jin shouted, his voice echoing off the cliff walls.

Choin stepped forward to the gate, accompanied by Gwi-Hyuk and Baek-Un. He didn't carry his sword, but instead crossed his arms over his chest in the manner of a manager greeting an arrogant field inspector.

"Song Jin," Choin said flatly, his voice piercing the noise of the wind.

"You're back sooner than I expected. Have you brought the 'Budget Plan' to replace the damaged bridge you built the other day?"

The old man beside Song Jin stepped forward, his Mastery (Architect) aura exploding, pressuring the air so that the Year 2 students behind the gate felt suffocated.

"I am Elder Han-Seung of Mount Hua," the old man's voice was deep and authoritative.

"We didn't come for the mason's business. We came to demand the return of the 'investment' you illegally confiscated from Elder Gong. Hand over the shadow ledger and kneel, or I'll bring this entire rotten building down on your head."

Choin took a deep breath, his glowing blue eyes scanning Han-Seung's energy structure.

"Opponent Structure Analysis:

Aura stable,

Qi density high,

but the weight bearing is too much on the front leg.

Weakness in lateral stability," Choin thought.

"Han-Seung," Choin said with a sly grin, an expression he thoroughly enjoyed.

"In my area, we don't recognize the term 'illegal investment.' All we know is 'Failure of Structural Integrity.' Since you've entered the project area without written permission and threatened demolition... I'm forced to initiate unilateral termination procedures."

Choin raised his hand, then brought it down quickly.

"Jin-Pyo! Activate Zone A's Shock Floor system! Now!"

BOOM!

A violent tremor erupted from beneath the gate, welcoming the first steps of the arrogant Mount Hua warriors. The battle for the integrity of the Evernight Gate pillar had officially begun.
