Chapter 7 - Dungeon II

Chapter 7: Dungeon II

"Divine Dungeons?"

The term was odd but filled with fantastical dreams.

It also reminded me of the conversation I had with the gods before arriving in this world.

.....

FLASHBACK

"My son is trapped on an island on Holstein. I will make sure your descent is close to him but the rest is up to you."

"And my reward for helping him?"

The old god just sighed in exhaustion.

"Yes, he has agreed to be your equal. From this moment on, the two of you are named by me as 'The Lords of Night and Day.'"

[Congratulations! You have gained the title 'The Lord of Day']

.....

I still need to find that godling.

Fortunately as the Lord of Night I can feel his presence somewhere near. Slightly across the border in enemy territory.

"After our first or second battle I'll have to take the area for myself. For now we need to get to the building part of the plan."

After I was done talking with Seraphina I went over to Ava.

"Sorry about that. I had to tell her we drove you off for security reasons."

Ava just shrugged.

"It's fine. My father in my last life was military. I'm used to the secrecy."

"You're a military brat? I never would have guessed. Then again, that is a tell tale… you're american so… CIA?"

Ava just gave a surprised look before nodding.

"You never cease to amaze me. All I said was that I was american and a military brat and you got all that on your first try."

I just gave a cocky smile before redirecting her to a different topic.

She didn't need to know my affiliations to a similar agency after all. I hardly knew her. Trusting her with so much of my life story could be dangerous.

"I need you to bond with the dungeon core. I would do it myself but you found it and you have guarded it longer than I have. Can you do that?"

Ava looked visibly nervous.

"My father told me that once I become a dungeon master it will stop feeding off of my lifeforce. The dungeon will be stuck as a level 1 dungeon. Incapable of spawning level 2 beings for a while. It's not worth it."

Level 1 for a dungeon means that it's incapable of creating anything higher than level 20. A level 21+ creature is usually always a superpowered being.

It could be a mage, a knight or an esper. Though the last one is apparently incredibly rare outside of civilized space according to the weird goblin mage.

'I still can't believe I landed on the Amish side of the world.' I sighed.

I looked at Ava and though she made a good point I had to remind her of something.

"Don't forget, an army of 450 have made this base their home now. Myself included, and I can tell you right now, the amount of lifeforce I have is even superior to your own."

I crossed my arms and gave her a mysterious smile.

She looked down and thought about it for a second before speaking, "Not to mention, the reason why I need to wait longer is to make sure the dungeon grows larger to keep me protected… A fortress can do that for me too."

I nodded in agreement.

"Ok, I'll go now… That reminds me. My father told me a dungeon can cover the surface area to a certain point and convert whatever is built on it to dungeon territory. Meaning, whatever you build will harden and regenerate if it's damaged…"

"Wow, you managed to find a dragon, an untamed isle, countless treasures and a dungeon that can produce countless benefits for years to come. You might be the luckiest person alive or you have crazy plot armor."

She laughed at the last part but I just stared at her back as she walked towards her designated tent in nervousness.

"Yeah… lucky…"

I stared back at my status board and looked at a particular skill.

[Unique Skill: Luck Meter]

[Possesses a visible range of -1000 in bad luck and +1000 in good luck. Spend points in luck to receive fortuitous encounters. Gain luck points by doing good or survive unlucky encounters. The more you lose the more points you gain. {Warning: Falling below 0 could result in terrible consequences.}]

[Current points: -20]

[Would you like to spend points? Y/N]

I spent a whole 1000 points trying to find the right place to settle and lost 50 points killing the traitor. I might have gained more if I spared him but it wasn't worth it.

I gained 30 points because I made Roger captain.

"I need to be careful…"

I looked over at one of the tired guards doing night watch and had an idea.

"Hey kid, I'll take watch for you."

[James: Loyalty 35]

[Gained 10 points in luck]

"Thank you sir! I deeply appreciate it."

Shit just 10 points and I have to keep a night watch? I'm definitely going to get shot by a goblin aren't I?

I ground my teeth in frustration as I looked at the guard leaving to get his rest.

...….

[You have gained 60 points]

The night was unbelievably long.

Not only did I volunteer to stay awake for three different people but I stepped in horse shit twice and tripped over a tree root. Just as my skill said, I can gain points not just by doing good deeds but from surviving my unlucky encounters.

How can a skill be so overpowered?

'This thing is actually crazier than both of my Ultimate Skills.'

If only that little Godling were here. That would have made things so much easier, but it seems even good luck can't control what a god does, no matter how weak.

Still, him being so close was something.

...….

After my shift was over I walked over to the sand dune.

It was finally above water and everyone was packed and ready to go. The new Captain was taking his role as Captain seriously.

'That reminds me.'

I pulled up one of my Sub-skills and made sure to set as many people into the Construction Division as I could while allocating others to their respective divisions.

[Construction Division: 400]

[Defence Division: 46]

[Administration Division: 4]

I'll change it later.

'Especially since I'm already getting assholes dropping in loyalty. That's fine too. The dungeon needs to be explored after all.'

"I could try increasing people's loyalty but I have enough experience to know that soldiers care little about anything when their lives are on the line. The only way to gain their loyalty is by winning battles and by feeding them."

So the plan is simple.

Take the border and the neighboring villages and gain the respect of my people. Easier said than done for most people but thanks to my [luck Meter] skill I was able to find this place.

So how hard can it be to gain the loyalty of a few illiterates?

I watched everyone else carry the carriage and decided to farm some luck by helping out where I could.

Just like that, my journey to the top was on its way.
