The house was still quiet when Lila padded down the stairs, backpack already slung over her shoulder, hair pulled into a neat ponytail.
Their mother looked up from the stove, eyes widening in surprise.
"Lila? You're up early."
"I know." Lila grabbed a piece of toast from the counter, grinning. "Shocking, right?"
"Very." Their mother set down her spatula, studying her. "Are you feeling alright?"
"I'm fine, Ma. Just... excited about school today."
"Since when are you excited about school?"
Lila laughed. "Since today, apparently."
Their mother's expression softened, a small smile tugging at her lips. "Well, it's good to see. Just don't tire yourself out."
"I won't."
Leo appeared in the doorway, still in his pajamas, hair mussed from sleep. "Morning."
"Morning, sleepyhead," Lila teased.
"Why are you up so early?"
"Because some of us are responsible students."
Leo raised an eyebrow. "Since when?"
"Since now. Don't question it."
