I knew damn well that wasn't the real reason why they had been spamming my call since yesterday. They were definitely in panic mode, but Lara must've woken up right around midnight, because the spam calls stopped right after that.
I didn't know if this was just a twist of fate, or if it was planned by this cunning bitch, but Lara being a factor actually caught me off guard.
Both Miles and Detective Penn were looking at us. They had the same peering look in their eyes, as if they were suspecting me of having an affair with Clarissa.
Usually, I couldn't care less what others think about me. But this was different—if the news about me having any contact with Clarissa reached Claudia's ears, she would've been angry.
Thus, I said decisively, "Let me go, Miss Reed."
