At the edge of the massive pit, Landon Hawthorne saw the strange bird charge into Aria Sterling's body.
Then, Aria Sterling collapsed in agony into the mud-filled pit.
"Aria, Aria..." Landon Hawthorne threw all caution to the wind, leaping into the massive pit. He scrambled down and pulled Aria from the mire.
Hearing his voice, Adrian Rhodes rushed over and scrambled down into the pit as well.
"Aria, Aria, what's wrong..."
Landon Hawthorne cradled Aria, only to find the woman in his arms was burning up, as if she'd just been seared by fire.
"Why is she so hot? Did she catch a cold?" Landon Hawthorne quickly scooped Aria up, trying to get out of the pit.
But the freshly dug pit was difficult enough for one person to climb, let alone while carrying someone else. He hadn't taken more than a few steps before he stumbled and fell, luckily managing to avoid injury.
