Landon Hawthorne was completely out of it at work today. When he'd confessed his feelings to Aria Sterling this morning, she had replied with two words.
"I'll try."
That's right. Aria's reply wasn't "I'm willing" or "I'm not," but that she would try.
At the time, Landon hadn't understood what "I'll try" meant, so he had asked.
Aria's explanation was, "I've never had feelings for anyone before. I don't know if I can develop an interest in you and grow to like you, but I'll do my best to try. If it doesn't work out, let's not force it. I've heard that being with someone who doesn't love you is both torturous and unfair—for you and for me."
Afterward, Landon went to Adrian Rhodes to ask about Aria. This time, Adrian was in a good mood and actually shared some information.
In all the years he had been with Aria, plenty of handsome, exceptional men had been interested in her, but her heart had never been stirred.
