Felix Preston looked up, his gaze holding a hint of a smile as he watched Renee Sinclair. He asked again, "Miss Sinclair, why should I believe you?"
Renee Sinclair's face paled. Her hand, frozen in mid-air, suddenly dropped, lifeless.
The question Felix Preston asked so casually was like a gust of icy wind laced with thorns. As it blew against her, the thorns mercilessly tore one bloody hole after another into her.
It was a pain that pierced her to the marrow, yet she couldn't even let out a wail.
This was the first time in her life she had so shamelessly and undignifiedly tried to curry favor with a man, but all he gave her in return was rejection and cold indifference.
She parted her lips, wanting to say something in her own defense, but her throat felt as if it were stuffed with cotton, choking her so much she couldn't make a sound.
