Chapter 202 - Evolution! Blade Tail, Spear Wings, and Formidable New Scales!

Translator: AnubisTL

"My tail has also fully evolved."

The red-iron dragon tensed the muscles in its tail.

In an instant, the scales on both sides of the tail clicked together, bulging slightly outward to form a terrifying keen blade structure.

Concentrating his spirit and tightening the muscles at the tail's tip, the surrounding dragon scales simultaneously stacked upward, becoming as sharp as spears. Their gleaming points radiated a chilling, piercing light, appearing lethally penetrative.

When he relaxed his muscles, the specialized scales returned to their original positions.

The weapon, a fusion of blade and spear, reverted to a normal, thick tail, its lethal edge concealed.

Garos turned his head to examine his dragon wings.

The feather-like scales on his wings had elongated outward, evolving into spear-like protrusions. These could be used for stabbing, but unlike the tail's tip, they could not be retracted.

After a thorough inspection of his entire body, Garos realized that every part of his form had become a weapon.

The red-iron dragon's current physique seemed purpose-built for combat.

Both wings and tail had evolved blade and spear structures, while thorn spikes bristled across his body like a forest of swords. His dragon horns were lethally sharp, and his indestructible dragon claws needed no further elaboration.

When Garos entered battle mode, his entire body radiated a chilling, razor-sharp aura.

But these changes were secondary.

Garos scrutinized his Exploding Scale Layer, noticing it had transformed dramatically.

The most striking change was its color: the dark gray had deepened to a night-sky black, with a silvery border that shimmered under the moonlight.

"Silver... Could this be because I've endured so much silver dragon and white dragon breath that I've evolved cold-based traits?"

The coloration of transcendent creatures, unless deliberately camouflaged, typically reflects their inherent attributes. Garos's theory had merit.

However, the exact effects of this transformation remained to be tested.

Garos circled Dragon Valley a few times before landing in a clearing.

He found his awakened familiars had brought him a massive supply of meat, and they were already setting up campfires to roast and boil it.

But Garos had no patience for savoring his meal. His stomach was empty, and the black oil couldn't fully quell his hunger. He desperately needed real food.

He devoured the fresh, bloody meat with savage abandon, stuffing his belly until it bulged.

Occasionally, grilled or steamed cooked food would be delivered, which he devoured in a few quick bites.

As time passed, Garos, driven by his rapid eating, consumed more than his own weight in food within a few hours, finally satisfying his ravenous hunger and thirst.

"Deborah," Garos called out after resting briefly, beckoning the red-silver dragon who had been watching him intently. "Attack me."

The red-silver dragon was accustomed to Garos's requests.

She knew this was likely related to his innate talent, not merely a peculiar hobby. Yet, judging by the occasional expressions Garos wore when attacked, she sensed he seemed to enjoy the processโ€”or perhaps, he was finding pleasure in suffering.

"Here I come," the red-silver dragon warned, spreading her wings and swooping toward Garos with accelerating speed. Raising her claw, which crackled with bone-chilling ice magic, she struck down with tremendous force.

Thud!

A dull thud echoed from Garos's spine.

His scales absorbed both the physical impact and the ice-type elemental attack simultaneously, sustaining only a few additional cracks, far from shattering.

At the same time, the scales that had taken the direct hit transformed completely into a cold, silvery hue, starting from their edges.

The chilling qi was absorbed by his scales. Garos felt only a slight coldness seeping through the cracks, nothing like the needle-like pain he had experienced before.

I've endured the breath attacks and spells of white dragons and silver dragons for too long, Garos thought silently. This evolution has granted me powerful ice resistance. It's no longer my weakness.

The red-silver dragon's attacks continued to rain down on the red-iron dragon's body.

Her ice magic and physical strikes caused Garos's scales to become riddled with cracks, turning almost completely cold silver while radiating a bone-chilling aura.

This aura had little effect on the red-silver dragon.

But it was enough to freeze the surrounding air into frost. Any fire-type creature attacking Garos would find themselves sluggish, numb, and pierced by the icy cold.

"Deborah, stop using spells. Attack me purely with physical force for now," Garos said.

"Alright!"

The red-silver dragon, her face flushed with exhilaration from unleashing her power, repeatedly struck Garos with her claws, tail, and wings.

The dragon scales continued to radiate cold qi.

And as several scales shattered completely, the cold qi released in that instant became even more intense.

Strangely, even as the dragon scales grew colder, Garos felt an increasing heat within his body, a fiery energy rapidly surging upward, as if he were simultaneously experiencing the extremes of ice and fire.

"Use your frost dragon breath on me," Garos commanded.

Without hesitation, the red-silver dragon retreated slightly, took a deep breath, and unleashed the frost dragon breath inherited from her silver dragon bloodline.

Whoosh! A tangible, silvery-white dragon breath surged toward Garos.

The dragon breath contained extreme ice-type energy, the most potent offensive technique of dragonkind. Beyond its elemental damage, the sheer force of the blast could shatter mountains and tear the earth asunder.

Almost instantly, every scale on Garos's body turned a frigid silver, making him appear at first glance to be a silver dragon hybrid.

He advanced step by step against the dragon's breath, each scale shattering and releasing icy qi, while the heat within his body grew ever more intense.

The dragon breath's damage was overwhelming.

Soon, as the last 'silver scale' on Garos's body shattered, the scorching heat within him reached its limit, his chest heaving.

"I can't hold it back any longer! Get out of the way!" Garos roared, flames erupting from his mouth and nostrils. The exposed crimson-black inner dragon scales now glowed a searing red, like molten steel, radiating waves of heat that distorted the surrounding air into shimmering mirages. Dry grass and withered leaves beneath his feet ignited instantly.

The red-silver dragon's pupils constricted as she sensed an overwhelmingly dangerous aura rising from Garos.

She immediately clamped her mouth shut and retreated from him.

The warning had come just in time.

As the red-silver dragon spread her wings to take flight, she witnessed a sight she would never forget.

The red-iron dragon suddenly raised his head, his neck glowing like a white-hot cannon barrel.

Boom!

A massive pillar of brilliant flames erupted skyward, its diameter spanning several meters. The fiery column pierced the heavens with a range, scale, and power far exceeding normal dragon breath, nearly setting the sky ablaze and transforming the night into a crimson day.

The red-silver dragon stared in stunned silence, the burning sky reflected in her eyes, her body trembling involuntarily.

If that flaming dragon breath had struck her, she suspected she would have been severely injured on the spot. Caught off guard, she might even have been killed instantly.

The sheer force was overwhelming.

Even the breath of a fully grown gold dragon likely couldn't match such power.

After a full ten seconds, as the dragon breath gradually weakened, the searing crimson glow on Garos's body began to fade.

His vivid scarlet scales returned to their normal blackish-red hue.

Hah... Garos slowly exhaled a plume of hot air. His dragon scales shifted slightly, revealing crimson patterns that flowed like molten lava across their surfaces. Residual heat radiated from the gaps between the scales, distorting the surrounding air.
