Vera was a fairy dragon, born in the fae wilderness.
This realm, brimming with magic and wonder, mystery and beauty, did not belong to Bernardo Planet.
In the fae wilderness, Vera and other fae creatures—pixies, forest fairies, and more—dwelt atop a singing eucalyptus tree. They spent their days stealing unicorn manes for amusement, yet the gentle unicorns never rebuked them, showing boundless tolerance and kindness, like wise elders who also served as their guardians.
Until one fateful day.
After over two decades in the fae wilderness, Vera, weary of the unchanging scenery, suddenly conceived a daring idea: to see the world beyond.
The thought took root in her mind, growing stronger with each passing day.
Seizing her chance while the unicorn slumbered, Vera secretly slipped away from their dwelling. She roamed freely through the vast, beautiful fae wilderness, reveling in her newfound freedom.
Fields of vibrant flowers stretched as far as the eye could see, rivers surged with relentless energy, and the gentle breeze carried the shimmering glow of the enchanted realm.
Lost in the breathtaking beauty of the fae wilderness, Vera gradually forgot the unicorn's warnings. Driven by curiosity, she ventured deep into a dark, decaying forest, where she encountered a corrupted and terrifying woe sprite.
Fortunately, during its escape, it stumbled into an unstable spatial rift and was swept into the Sierre Wilderness. After a period of adaptation, it managed to survive there, living alongside a group of ill-tempered Earthstorm Bears near a stream outside Needleleaf Valley.
It had secretly observed the Earthstorm Bears.
Discovering that these lumbering giants were slow-witted and lacked keen senses, it began to amuse itself by stealing their fur to weave toys or using magic to turn invisible and blow air into their nostrils, indulging its playful nature.
After awakening from a period of hibernation, Vera felt her nest had become too cramped. She decided to venture to Earthstorm Bear Ridge to gather more fur to expand her dwelling, and perhaps tease the foolish bears again while she was at it.
As night deepened, Vera put her plan into action. She cast an invisibility spell to become undetectable to the naked eye, minimizing her presence as she quietly moved through the dense canopy, eventually reaching Needleleaf Valley.
But unlike usual, before she could even spot the clumsy bears, Vera heard dull, thudding sounds echoing from the valley's edge. Driven by her insatiable curiosity, she couldn't resist approaching to investigate.
When Vera arrived at the scene, she was stunned.
She saw a giant dragon, its body clad in steel-like scales and possessing unparalleled strength, repeatedly slamming its sensitive parts against a sturdy tree trunk, seemingly oblivious to pain.
How terrifying.
How horrifying.
Even more frightening to dragons than a woe sprite.
Vera dared not breathe, dared not blink, fearing she might attract the dreadful dragon's attention.
She initially intended to slip away unnoticed, but her curiosity about Garos proved too strong. She cautiously observed from the shadows.
The dragon was likely in heat and without a mate, venting its frustration on the poor, innocent pine tree. Judging by its appearance, though somewhat unique, it clearly bore traits of both red and iron dragons, suggesting it was a hybrid of the two.
A hybrid of the chromatic dragon king and the submetallic dragon king was undoubtedly an inherently evil dragon.
I've heard evil dragons have insatiable desires. This proves it. It's still a young dragon, yet it's already defiling trees.
If it discovers me, with my tiny frame, being struck by its... weapon... Vera shuddered at the thought, her heart pounding with terror.
Just in time.
With its final, ferocious strike, Garos cleaved a tree trunk as thick as several men could encircle in half.
The terrifying sight paralyzed Vera with fear. Her body flickered, breaking free from its invisibility, and she forgot to suppress her aura.
Then she saw it.
The red iron dragon snapped its head around, its gaze locking onto her with predatory intensity.
Their eyes met.
Vera froze completely.
"Fairy dragon."
Garos paused momentarily at his first glimpse of the fairy dragon.
Simultaneously, a flood of inherited knowledge surged through his mind.
Dragons were classified into distinct types based on shared characteristics:
Chromatic Dragons:
— Red Dragon, Blue Dragon, Green Dragon, Black Dragon, White Dragon.
Metallic Dragons:
— Gold-Silver Dragon, Copper Dragon, Bronze Dragon, Red Copper Dragon.
Gem Dragons:
— Amethyst Dragon, Sapphire Dragon, Emerald Dragon, Topaz Dragon, Crystal Dragon.
These three main classes comprised the most numerous and relatively common dragon types, collectively known as the Main Class Dragons.
Submetallic Dragons:
— Iron Dragon, Cobalt Dragon, Chromium Dragon, Nickel Dragon, Tungsten Dragon.
While the Submetallic Dragons formed a major class, their numbers were far fewer than those of the Main Class Dragons.
There were many other types of dragons, including:
Sun dragons, moon dragons, star dragons—cosmic dragons. Fairy dragons, abyssal dragons, astral dragons, hell dragons—planar dragons. Earth dragons, flood dragons, forest dragons, celestial dragons, imperial dragons—emperor dragons. Time dragons, force dragons, prismatic dragons—legendary dragons. Plutonium dragons, blue diamond dragons, phantasmal dragons, stellar dragons, thirty-eight winged dragons—hate dragons.
Cosmic dragons, submetallic dragons, planar dragons, legendary dragons, emperor dragons, and hate dragons all belonged to the subclass dragons. The primary difference between subclass dragons and main class dragons was their extreme rarity, to the point where their existence was almost considered a myth. Their strength varied widely, with some weaker than white dragons and others surpassing gold dragons in power.
It's worth noting that beyond subclass dragons, there were also subtype dragons.
Examples of subtype dragons included sea emperor dragons, multi-headed dragons, rock dragons, mithril dragons, spineback ancient dragons, and sharp-toothed behemoth dragons. These were all true dragons, but because they lacked common characteristics, they couldn't be classified under a unified category and were thus designated as subtype dragons.
Similar to subclass dragons, subtype dragons also exhibited a wide range of strengths compared to main class dragons.
Getting back to the main point:
A planar subclass dragon like the fairy dragon was an extremely rare sight on Bernardo Planet. It was possible that only this single specimen existed on the entire world.
Garos was startled to see the fairy dragon.
But beyond his surprise, a dangerous glint flashed in his eyes as he realized his privacy had been breached.
"Fairy dragon, you—" Garos began in a deep voice, preparing to demand what the creature had witnessed.
Before he could finish, the fairy dragon frantically shook its head, its movements blurring into afterimages. "Didn't see anything! Vera didn't see anything!"
Garos fell silent.
After a two-second pause, he turned to Vera, forcing a friendly expression onto his draconic face.
"Vera? I'll remember your name."
"This is my first time meeting a fairy dragon. Your petite and delicate form fills me with wonder and curiosity. Let's be friends! Don't be nervous or afraid—I'm not an evil dragon."
Garos chuckled warmly as he approached the fairy dragon.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no! Waaah! I'll never be curious again!"
Across from him, the fairy dragon shrieked, its butterfly-like dragon wings suddenly unfurling.
Poof! A burst of shimmering magical dust erupted from its body, filling Garos's vision with blinding white light. For a moment, he lost sight of the fairy dragon completely.
Garos abandoned his disguise.
With a mighty flap of his massive wings, a tempestuous gale erupted.
