He took a breath and turned to leave. But just as he reached for the handle, the door swung open with a sudden, forceful pressure. Adrian looked up, his heart leaping into his throat.
Standing in the doorway, blocking the only exit, was Matteo.
For a split second, Adrian froze.

Adrian's breath hitched. The sudden closeness of the man he had been trying to erase from his mind sent a sharp jolt through him. For a split second, the urge to reach out almost overwhelmed him.
Then the memory of the betrayal came crashing back.
He didn't want to hear any explanations. He didn't want to look at the man who had left him to rot in that cage. Adrian lowered his head, his expression hardening into cold indifference. He tried to move past, moving as if Matteo were nothing more than a ghost, a stranger not even worth a glance.
But Matteo wasn't going to let him go again. He stepped in front of him, blocking the way, and pushed Adrian back into the restroom.
