"Yeah," Matteo said, his voice sounding tired but calm. "So, if you don't come and let me in, I guess I'll just stay out here. I'm not leaving until I see you."
"You are absolutely out of your mind!" Adrian hissed, already grabbing his slides. "Fine! Stay there. I'm coming down."
Adrian didn't even stop to grab a jacket. He rushed out of his room and hurried down the stairs, his heart racing as he headed straight for the front gate to get Matteo before anything else could go wrong.
Outside, Matteo stood alone in front of the gate.
His men weren't completely gone, they were somewhere nearby, keeping watch, but he was the only one visible.
When Adrian came down, his security opened the gate.
Adrian looked at Matteo for a second, then said quietly, "Come in."
Matteo stepped inside without a word. They walked up the long driveway in a heavy silence. Adrian didn't look at him, his mind still trying to process how reckless he had been to come alone.
