"Elena… don't."
Daniel's voice echoed through the vast chamber, raw and unsteady.
She slowly turned this time.
And when he saw her face—
Something inside him broke.
She looked… calm.
Too calm.
Like someone who had already made a decision.
"You feel it too, don't you?" she asked softly.
Daniel shook his head immediately.
"No. I don't care what that thing showed you—we'll figure this out another way."
"There isn't another way."
The words landed heavy.
Final.
Maria stepped forward, her voice trembling.
"Elena, we just found out the truth. That doesn't mean you have to… give yourself to it."
Elena's gaze softened.
"I'm not giving myself to it," she said gently.
"I'm… continuing what was always meant to be."
Behind them, Giancarlo finally spoke again.
"And that," he said quietly, "is exactly what I was afraid of."
Daniel turned sharply.
"You knew this would happen!"
Giancarlo didn't deny it.
"I knew there was a chance."
"A chance?!" Daniel snapped. "You let her walk into this!"
"I tried to stop her," Giancarlo said. "The note. The warnings. But once the keeper learns the truth…"
He looked at Elena.
"…the choice becomes theirs."
Silence.
The light behind Elena pulsed again—brighter now, more responsive.
Like it was listening.
Waiting.
Elena took a slow breath.
"When my family stopped coming here…" she said, "when they disappeared… it didn't just lose its guardians."
Her voice faltered slightly.
"It lost its connection."
Maria whispered, "That's why everything started happening…"
Elena nodded.
"The corruption. The violence. The Bellinis trying to control something they didn't understand."
Daniel stepped closer, his voice breaking now.
"Then we find another way. We rebuild the connection without you staying here. There has to be something—"
Elena shook her head gently.
"No."
She reached for his hand.
Held it.
Tightly.
"This place… it's not just a location," she said. "It's a bond. A constant one."
Daniel's eyes filled with emotion.
"You're talking like you won't come back."
She didn't answer.
And that was answer enough.
"No," he whispered. "No, I'm not accepting that."
Elena stepped closer, her voice soft but steady.
"You once told me some truths don't destroy us," she said.
"They change us."
A tear slipped down his cheek.
"This isn't change," he said. "This is losing you."
Her own eyes filled now.
"I won't be gone," she whispered.
"Not really."
The light pulsed stronger.
Warmer.
Maria turned away slightly, unable to watch.
Giancarlo remained still.
Silent witness to something older than all of them.
Elena placed her free hand over Daniel's.
"For the first time… I understand why I'm here," she said.
"Why I came to this town."
Daniel tightened his grip.
"Then stay. Be here with me."
Her voice broke.
"I am."
Slowly—
Gently—
She pulled her hand away.
And stepped back toward the light.
"No—Elena!" Daniel lunged forward, but Maria grabbed him.
"Wait!" she cried. "You don't know what will happen if you interfere!"
"I don't care!"
But Elena turned one last time.
And smiled.
Not a goodbye.
Not completely.
But something close enough to break him.
"Take care of the world above," she said softly.
Then—
She stepped into the light.
Everything exploded in brightness.
A surge of energy filled the chamber—powerful, overwhelming, but not destructive.
The ground trembled one last time.
Then—
Stopped.
Silence fell.
Deep.
Complete.
The light slowly dimmed.
And where Elena had been—
There was nothing.
Daniel fell to his knees.
"No…"
Maria covered her mouth, tears streaming down her face.
Giancarlo closed his eyes.
Because the truth—
The ancient, unbreakable truth—
Had finally been fulfilled.
The keeper had returned.
And the balance—
Had been restored.
