Chapter 6 - Trust

The two pairs stood side by side—each carrying different emotions.

The crowd.

The lights.

The stage.

Everything felt overwhelming.

Hard to put into words.

Theo glanced at Julia—

hoping he wouldn't mess up.

Julia met his gaze—

steady, focused—

ready to give her best.

Samy looked at Em.

A hint of uncertainty in his eyes.

They were in sync yesterday.

Perfect.

But this—

this was different.

This was the stage.

Em noticed.

She gave a small, calm smile.

"Don't worry," she said quietly.

"Don't pressure yourself."

Samy stayed silent.

"We pulled it off yesterday," she continued.

"So just trust yourself…"

A brief pause.

"…and trust me."

Samy blinked.

Then gave a small nod.

The music started.

The crowd erupted.

Theo and Julia started first.

Sharp.

Clean.

Confident.

They matched the beat effortlessly—

pulling the audience in with every step.

They were showing perfection in each move.

Samy and Em stayed still—

waiting.

Watching.

For their moment.

Samy glanced at her.

Em didn't look at the crowd.

Didn't look at the stage.

She looked at him.

And gave a small nod.

Samy nodded back.

No words.

Just trust.

Earlier

The moment when the announcement was made.

Not far from the stage— Ellie made a few quiet adjustments, ensuring everything was in place.

Julia had already pulled Theo toward the stage by that time.

Samy lingered for a moment—

then turned to leave backstage.

Ellie notices and reached out—

and caught her hand.

"Wait."

Ellie tried to move forward—

but her foot gave in slightly.

A small wince escaped her.

Still—

she didn't let go.

"Go," Ellie said softly.

Then, with a gentle push—

"Run… he's about to leave."

She hesitated.

"…What about you?"

Ellie shook her head.

"I'll be fine."

A faint smile.

"Just go."

For a second—

She looked at her.

Then—

she nodded.

And ran.

"Samy!"

Her voice cut through the noise.

Samy stopped.

He turned.

Footsteps approached—

fast—

closing in.

A figure came into view—

unclear at first—

then—

closer.

And then—

"…Em?"

Samy blinked.

She was slightly out of breath—

but her eyes were steady.

"We're performing," she said.

Samy stared at her.

"…What?"

No hesitation.

She stepped forward—

and grabbed his hand.

"Come on."

The grip was firm.

Certain.

Samy didn't pull away.

"…You're serious."

Em glanced back—

a small, confident smile.

"When am I not?"

And just like that—

she pulled him toward the stage.

Behind them—

Ellie finally slowed to a stop.

She watched them go.

A quiet breath left her.

"…Last time," she murmured,

"I couldn't let him dance… because of me."

Her fingers curled slightly.

"But not this time, not with you Samy."

A faint smile.

"We'll dance again soon,."

A small pause—

"But for now…"

Her eyes followed them forward—

steady.

"…you've got someone better."

Before—

when Ellie had called Theo aside—

her voice had been quieter.

"There's someone…" she said.

Theo frowned slightly.

"…A replacement?"

Ellie nodded.

"The girl from yesterday, Em."

"The one who matched Samy without trying."

Theo hesitated.

"…You think she'll agree?"

Ellie looked down for a second—

"I don't know."

A small pause.

"But I want to try."

Theo looked at her and said but that this point you'll be the only one missing the performance.

Ellie I'm fine with it, I don't want someone else to miss because of me.

Theo studied her—

then sighed.

"…Alright."

With Theo's support, Ellie started looking for Em, not knowing where she even was.

Time passed, and they still couldn't find her.

Theo began to wonder if she had even come that day.

That's when Ellie pointed toward the guest and VIP section—near the principal. There sitting with the principal was Em.

Theo told Ellie to stay back and that he would talk to her.

He walked toward Em.

"Em," he called.

She looked up, slightly surprised.

"We need a replacement," he said.

"Could you help us?"

Em frowned slightly.

"…Replacement?"

Theo nodded.

"For the performance."

Em hesitated, her expression tightening a little.

"…You want me to dance…?"

"It's too sudden," she said quickly.

"I'm not prepared for that.—"

Theo knowing it's an unreasonable request said "I understand but can you hear me out once"

Em paused.

Theo exhaled.

"We need a replacement for Samy's partner."

A brief silence.

Em blinked.

"…Samy's partner?"

Before Theo could continue—

Ellie came behind him and spoke from behind, her voice softer but clear.

"I'm the one who got injured."

Em turned.

Ellie stepped forward carefully.

"I really wanted to perform… but with my leg like this, I can't."

She gave a small, apologetic smile.

"And I don't want Samy to miss the performance because of me."

"…Samy is skipping the program?"

A familiar voice cut in.

They turned. Sitting beside the principal was Anna.

Sister Anna? Ellie and Theo looked surprised. What are you doing here.

Anna laughed revealing she is an Alumni this year and is invited by the principal.

But what happened to you, Anna asked Ellie.

Ellie explained everything that happened.

Em's expression shifted—confusion fading into understanding.

"…So you want me to dance with Samy?"

Theo nodded.

"If you're willing."

Em still unsure.

"…It's still sudden."

She looked down briefly.

"I don't even know if we can pull it off on stage."

Anna stepped closer towards Em, her gaze moving between them before settling on Em.

"You danced with him yesterday," Anna said.

"Didn't you?"

Em nodded slowly.

Anna tilted her head slightly.

"And you kept up with him?"

Em pause.

"…Yes."

"Then what's the problem?"

Em frowned slightly.

"This is different. It's a stage. There's pressure—timing—"

Anna interrupted calmly.

"Do you trust him?"

Silence.

Em didn't answer immediately.

Then—

"…Yes."

Anna nodded once.

"Then you'll be fine."

Theo crossed his arms, watching quietly.

Ellie looked at Em, hopeful but nervous.

"You don't have to do this… but I'd really appreciate it."

The noise from the stage grew louder.

The announcement echoed again—

"Next performance, please get ready!"

Time was running out.

Em closed her eyes for a second.

Then exhaled and then she agreed.

Back on stage—

The music carried on.

Theo and Julia—

still in control.

Sharp.

Precise.

But—

something was about to change.

At the edge of the stage—waiting for their turn.

He looked at Em.

For a brief moment—

everything else faded.

The crowd.

The lights.

The noise.

Gone.

In his mind—

faces flashed.

Amy.

Theo.

Julia.

Anna.

Ellie.

Expectations.

Trust.

Hope.

He exhaled slowly.

"…I'm leaving it to you," he thought.

Em met his gaze.

No hesitation.

No doubt.

Just—

certainty.

She gave a small nod.

And stepped forward.

The beat dropped.

The spotlight turned towards them.

Their turn finally came.

They started naturally.

Not rushed.

Not forced.

Like they had already done this—

a hundred times.

The crowd erupted, the cheers were louder than Theo and Julia, almost like the atmosphere changed completely the moment they started dancing.

Em just like the first time had a natural flow with Samy.

She wasn't fast,

Nor was she slow.

She didn't chased the rhythm.

Not did she ran.

But just on time.

She was the rhythm.

As they hold hands, Em's hands felt light, they had no burden in it. As they moved samy steps were weightless, it had no worry in it. They flowed as they danced.

Theo and Julia soon joined the scene again, now all four of them performed together. The crowd was at their loudest, the music hits at max.

Theo and Julia were performing effortlessly, each step precise and calculated showing their constant effort both put into getting into their level of sync, they were two individuals showing the same love.

On the other hand Samy and Em were not just performing, it seems the loud crowd almost disappeared for both of them, the bright lights turned low, at that very moment they were dancing, dancing like they are alone, like they are not two individuals but rather one soul in perfect harmony.

Their performance was coming to a close, the music was closing to the end, so far samy and Em was just following their natural instinct, an instinct to trust each other without a doubt.

The music slowly came to it's climax, and the music faded.

The performance ends.

The two pair steady.

The crowd silent.

No one moved.

No cheers.

No sound.

Just—

silence.

Not empty.

Not awkward.

But calm.

As if the crowd forgot

how to react.

The silence stayed for a while, the crowd trying to adapt themselves to what they just witnessed. Then— the next second applause exploded, Louder than anything before.

Theo and Julia facing the crowd appreciated the applaud.

They gave they best and they were very much satisfied.

Samy looked at Em—

disbelief in his eyes— That they actually pulled it off,

but also trust,

"…Thank you," he said softly. "Em" Calling her name.

Em looked at him.

A small smile.

"Ember," she said, my full name is Ember.
