Half-Jaw was still sitting beside the front gate when we finished breakfast.
Its silhouette appeared whenever the hedge shifted, one arm resting across its torn chest while the remaining leg stretched awkwardly in front of it.
The horde had spread along the road and into the trees, but none of the others occupied the cleared space around their damaged leader.
Apparently, management received a private parking space even after death.
Yuche noticed Half-Jaw while carrying the plates toward the sink. His attention remained on the gap in the hedge long enough for Lingyun to steal the last piece of bacon from the serving plate.
The theft succeeded, but Lingyun celebrated too early. Yuche took the bacon from his hand, placed it in his own mouth, and continued clearing the table.
Lingyun stared after him. "That was cruel."
"You stole it from Rouxi's plate." Yuche stacked the dishes beside the sink before looking outside again. "You're lucky I only took the bacon."
