Training Corps Headquarters
"Jean, are you really planning to join the Survey Corps?"
Armin asked.
"Yeah,"
Jean replied.
"Why so suddenly? Aren't you… scared?"
Sasha lowered her gaze. Joining the Survey Corps seemed like a near-certain death sentence…
I haven't even eaten enough meat yet…
"Huh? Of course I'm scared. The Survey Corps sounds like a group of people walking straight to their deaths,"
Jean said indifferently.
"Then why would you still—"
Connie asked, confused.
"Everyone!"
Suddenly, a familiar, bright voice rang out.
They all turned to look.
"Mina!"
Historia exclaimed in surprise, hurrying over.
Annie was slightly taken aback as well—she and Mina were quite close.
"Mina, why are you here? Are your injuries healed?"
Armin asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Today's the new recruit enlistment ceremony—how could I miss it? And it's not just me—Thomas is here too!"
Mina said happily, dressed once more in her Training Corps uniform.
"Thomas is awake?"
Jean was stunned.
"Don't forget about me."
Thomas walked over, his head still wrapped in bandages, leaning on a crutch as he limped forward.
"That guy… he has a wheelchair but insists on walking here himself,"
Mina said with a pout, her tone full of exasperation.
"Thomas… you…"
Sasha opened her mouth but couldn't finish her sentence.
"Wondering why I showed up looking like this?"
Thomas laughed.
"The instructors said I can't join the front lines anymore. I'll only be able to serve in the rear from now on. It's a shame I won't be able to personally fight Titans… but I want to see all of you become true soldiers with my own eyes."
"Don't you all remember? We said we'd join the Survey Corps together—with Chen Si and Eren!"
Mina said, full of determination.
"Mina…"
Annie parted her lips slightly.
"Annie, it's been so long—why do you still look so serious all the time?"
Mina ran up and pinched her cheek.
Annie grabbed Mina's hand and said firmly,
"Can you… not join the Survey Corps?"
"Huh? Annie, are you reluctant to part with me? Want me to join the same regiment as you?"
Mina grinned.
"Too bad I didn't make the top ten. And I don't want to join the Garrison and spend my days with a bunch of old drunk men. Besides… some things have to be done by someone."
As she spoke, she looked toward the platform.
Annie froze slightly.
"Training Corps! Form up!"
"Line up facing the podium! Face the podium!"
"I wasn't persuaded by Eren, Chen Si, or any of you,"
Jean said as he turned to leave.
"I just think this is the only job where I can decide my own fate."
"Then I'll join the Survey Corps too! With Chen Si around, we can definitely find meat in the kitchen!"
Sasha declared, finally making up her mind as she pulled a potato from her pocket and took a big bite.
"What?! Don't tell me the food that kept disappearing from the kitchen was you guys—"
Connie said, shocked.
"Shh!"
Sasha quickly hushed him.
"Damn it, you didn't even include me?!"
Connie said angrily.
"Why would we? Chen Si said you need to be quick and clever to sneak food from the kitchen. You're too clumsy. Honestly, bringing Historia would be better,"
Sasha said bluntly.
"Huh?!"
Connie looked annoyed.
Historia suddenly found herself dragged into the conversation and panicked.
"Historia… don't tell me you used to sneak into the kitchen with Chen Si and Sasha too?"
Mina asked with a knowing smile.
"Huh? I—I…"
Historia stammered awkwardly, unable to lie.
Armin watched everyone, a faint smile forming on his lips.
Eren… Chen Si… everyone… we didn't let you down…
