Sawano Kawa was bound to a wooden post erected on a temporary platform by the Survey Corps. Before him stood a massive crowd, all glaring at him with hatred and fury.
Chen Si slowly walked up the steps and stopped in front of him.
"That's Chen Si, the former top of the Training Corps!"
"It's the Lord of Thunder! What right does this wretched mortal have to make him personally carry out the execution?"
"This is a stain on the purity of his sacred hands!"
"The Survey Corps dares to show such disrespect to Lord Thunder? Aren't they afraid of divine punishment?"
Hearing this, Erwin frowned slightly.
Chen Si was momentarily stunned. What was wrong with these people? Looking at their fanatical expressions, he thought to himself—The Thunder Cult… who came up with this?
"Everyone, quiet down," Chen Si said calmly.
The chaotic noise instantly ceased, and the scene fell into complete silence.
"The sinner Sawano Kawa bears the remnants of dozens of lost souls. I will now release them from their suffering, allowing them to return home. May they find peace and happiness in their next lives."
Chen Si deliberately adopted a persuasive tone.
"Thank you, Lord!"
"We are grateful, Lord!"
"So Lord Thunder is here to save the souls of the dead—how maleficent!"
Some of the victims' families were moved to tears, while members of the Thunder Cult shouted fervently.
"This kid's pretty clever," Levi remarked with a slight nod.
"Levi, what do you think about supporting a religion centered around Chen Si?" Erwin suddenly asked.
"You're thinking…" Levi trailed off, already guessing Erwin's idea.
"Religion has always monopolized people's thoughts—something we've never been able to achieve. If we can break that, we'll finally have leverage," Erwin said slowly.
"True. Isn't that exactly how the royal government controls the ignorant masses?" Levi agreed.
"But religion can easily spiral out of control. Did you see those idiots just now? They were practically about to turn on us," Levi added, his deadpan gaze sweeping over the crowd.
"We don't have a choice, Levi," Erwin replied seriously.
Levi's expression darkened slightly.
"Do it. Whether it's overthrowing the monarchy or dealing with this kid if he ever loses control—I'll handle it," Levi said.
"Thank you, Levi," Erwin replied with a faint smile.
"I don't think Chen Si would," Winyaad suddenly spoke up after listening quietly.
"Chis, you talked with him for a while just now. What kind of person do you think he is?" Erwin asked.
"From my interaction with him, I feel he has strong desires—but not for power or wealth. What drives him seems to be the bonds he shares with his companions… and the desire to protect the one he loves," she said softly.
"The one he loves…" Erwin fell into thought. His gaze briefly shifted between Chis, Petra, and then Levi before he shook his head slightly.
"Bonds, huh…" Levi muttered, now viewing Chen Si a bit more favorably.
"How foolish, Chen Si. Do you really think you can change anything?" Sawano Kawa suddenly laughed. "You should know the ending of this world cannot be altered. This island is doomed to destruction. I'll be waiting for you."
Hearing this, Erwin began carefully analyzing the meaning behind those words. He glanced at the crowd below, his brows tightly furrowed.
Chen Si stared at Sawano Kawa, narrowing his eyes without speaking. His body suddenly radiated light as bolts of lightning surged upward into the sky, forming a pillar of electricity before dissipating.
Sawano Kawa's head dropped. He appeared untouched, yet all signs of life had vanished.
Whether witnessing it for the first or second time, the crowd below fell to their knees in worship at the divine spectacle.
In the distance, a handsome young man with reddish-brown hair wearing a Garrison uniform watched, a trace of reverence flashing in his eyes.
"Ding! First time killing a transmigrator. Reward obtained: Character Template—Sawano Kawa. Grants all abilities of Zeyechuan's system version. Can be applied to the host or others. The higher the compatibility, the stronger the effect."
"Ding! Online count: 3/4."
Chen Si was overjoyed. He could actually extract all of Sawano Kawa's abilities—this was a huge gain. No, he should thank Reiner for this. A faint smile appeared on his lips.
He knew Sawano Kawa's invisibility ability, if given to someone with strong combat experience, would be incredibly powerful. It could even negate Titan attacks and serve as a life-saving trump card.
He already had someone in mind—Mikasa. She could fight and survive deadly situations. Historia, on the other hand, wasn't as strong and was destined to become queen, not remain on the front lines.
As for compatibility… Chen Si thought briefly. Sawano Kawa was about 1.6 meters tall… which might suit "that short guy" best. But of course—good things should go to one's own woman… or rather, little sister…
Suddenly, another system notification made his pupils shrink.
Online count… Sawano Kawa is definitely dead. That means… there's still one more transmigrator.
"System! Is there any way to find out who the other transmigrator is?" Chen Si asked internally.
"Ding! Initiating signal scan. Estimated time to cover the entire world: 3 hours."
"What the—!" Chen Si blurted out in shock.
The system's actually being useful for once! he thought, ecstatic.
A nearby soldier tasked with collecting the body was startled.
"What's wrong?" Erwin asked quickly.
"Good news. Sawano Kawa's abilities can be inherited," Chen Si said with a smile after calming himself.
"Really? That's excellent news," Erwin replied, visibly pleased.
"I want to give it to someone close to me—but she'll join the Survey Corps," Chen Si said, locking eyes with him.
"I suppose I don't have the right to refuse," Erwin answered with a faint smile.
"Don't worry. She was the top graduate this time—she's strong. Not weaker than Captain Levi," Chen Si assured him.
Training Corps Barracks
"When was the last time you replaced the gear mechanism?" a Military Police officer asked.
"Six days ago, after the sweep operation," Sasha replied nervously.
"Matches the records," another officer noted.
"Next."
"42nd Squad, Historia Lenz," she reported.
Reiner watched the inspection, a bead of sweat forming as he clenched his teeth.
"Alright, that's enough. It shouldn't be here. The Training Corps is too far from the incident. There's unrest among civilians—we need manpower. Everyone, move out!" a captain ordered.
"Not continuing the inspection?" Armin asked, feeling uneasy as he glanced toward Annie leaving.
"It wasn't really our concern to begin with," Jean said.
"Probably just people losing control because of their hatred for Titans," Connie added.
