Sera said the field intervals were about to change. Then she changed them. Same breath. I'd spent months watching her work inside the bracket chamber's particular rules, so the sentence and the result arriving together felt... efficient.
The field she extended wasn't the same one she'd been rotating all this time. Not in precision. It was the same in the way someone is still themselves after doing something long enough to get very good at it. Familiar. Just sharper.
The burns on her arms looked like work now. Not injury. That told me more about the past few months than anything she'd actually said.

Light came up from his knuckles to his elbow. Not a flash. A pulse. Sustained. Reading. He'd been doing that the entire time we'd been down here, touching surfaces and getting answers back, but this was… clearer. Like the path had been walked enough times to stop pretending it wasn't a path.
