I went back to the viewing booth to watch Kuro's match. There were 15 minutes before her match started. I recived a phone call. I looked down at the caller Id. It was Maya.
"Hi mom. I assume you've called about the magic used in the Nine Schools Competition."
"Yes I assume your… "Kouhai" made that spell."
"Yes she did. I also want to ask you some things."
"Alright go ahead."
"We Yotsuba respect strength correct."
"Yes."
"Then as the strongest amongst the younger generation I'd like to try to become the clan head. I know I'm not blood related to the clan, but…"
I looked around to make sure no one was around.
"Kuro is. I know only you and a few higher ups in the clan know this, but me being engaged to her should be enough to legitimize my claim and keep the clan Yotsuba in blood."
She was silently digesting my words.
"Besides you are the strongest magician in Japan if not the world. No one in the clan will argue with you if you put your foot down."
*sigh*
"I can't talk you out of this, can I?"
"Mom you know I've never liked being under some one I don't respect. I acknowledge all the candidates existence and abilities. But none have earned my respect. Especially not Tatsuya and Miyuki. And I know they were your first choice"
*sigh*
"Despite not physically being my actual child you sure are troublesome."
… I thought about something Sakura invented awhile ago on a whim that we ended up giving to the clan. It allowed them to better fuse genetics. This is what they're using to create the artificial humans based off the data from the project that made Kuro.
"What if we use the genetic fusion spell Sakura made? By technically I would become youtsuba and your son as far as genetics are concerned."
"Ryu… you do know that might cause some changes in your personality and physical features. As well as be incredibly painful."
"Mom if I can endure Sakura's hellishly brutal Mental calculation enhancement spell I can take that spell. As for the changes I'm fine with that."
Okay after the competition come home and we will do so."
"Thank you mom. Oh, btw I would not recommended that mental calculation enhancement spell on anyone else it would be more likely to kill them from the shock or ego death. My magic just allowed me to tank it."
"Noted."
"Sakura said she might make a less painful version but it would both be less effective and take longer."
"Alright since your going to become a canidate in the race. You better grab her to she's too valuable for anyone to get ahold of. Although I know no one can stop her."
"Oh! Kuro's match is starting see you later mom."
"Bye Ryu."
Down in the arena I saw Kuro. How she could conceivably come up with her current outfit was beyond me. She was wearing the seven shadows outfit that the character she looked like wore. How? I'm just going to blame the gods. She was facing Shizuku in the first round. Oof, well maybe she won't take it to hard.
Tatsuya arrived shortly. As Shizuku's engineer he had to watch.
"Well let's see what's better Tatsuya your engineering, or Kuro's instincts. After all I'm sure you've done everything you can to try and counter Kuro."
He just smugly smirked. The feeling I had just further reinforced the feeling that I really don't respect him. It's probably not intentional but it feels like he's saying I'm beneath him. I know he isn't like that but it still pisses me off.
"Whatever the results matter more."
I watched as Kuro greeted Shizuku happily. After Shizuku responded. The count down started and Kuros whole demeanor changed to her "serious" mode.
—pov— Kuro
The crowd is loud. Stupid enhanced wolf hearing. *sigh* Could be worse battlefields are louder.
"Sorry Shizuku-Chan, but you aren't winning this. Either way give it your all!"
"Same to you, but I'm not losing!"

Go!!
I wasted no time. As I conjured up 16 javelins made of plasma. I used to only be able to create 3 but training has payed off. And unlike Ryu, Mayumi-Chan didn't ask me to hold back.
"Don't hate me from going all out Shizuku. It's just a difference in life and experience."
I willed the Javlins to spin. Shizuku started frantically casting defensive spells. But it was no use. The super heated plasma constructs slammed into each ice pillars the sudden and insane temperature change caused the pillars to explode.
Now that I think they've never seen me use anything other than plasma claws. And Tatsuya's info on this spell is out dated. I felt some resistance with the defensive spell though.
The horn blared signal the end. The crowd was dead silent this match was basically over in an instant. Then cheers erupted from the crowd. I could make out a few comments
"Holy crap those two new comers from first high are terrifying."
"I mean not to suprising those two have live combat experience and originate from the Yotsuba."
"What!? That's so unfair!"
"Technically we can't complain Masaki has combat experience too."
"Fair and since they are students they qualify for entry."
"I guess we should be prepared to lose ice pillars break for both genders."
"I heard Ryu Is also in monolith code."
I didn't hear the response as I just entered the athletes room. Ryu was there yay.
-pov- Ryu
"Ryu! Ryu! Did I do good I got serious just like you said to."
Damn she's so cute when excited. I reached up and rubbed her head.
"Yes you did very good Kuro."
She then wrapped her arms around my neck and leaned down for a kiss. I reciprocated.
*Ehem*
We were interrupted by a blushing Mayumi.
"Could you do that in private."
"Oops, sorry."
