Chapter 29 - Last test
A red holographic screen floated in front of Kai silently. At this point, he had gotten used to seeing it so much.
For some reason, it was no longer glitching. Ever since he found his "true name," it stopped glitching at the corners.

Kai stared and then said, "I have a skill, right?"

Kai spoke mentally once again, "Say I change my hand to become more muscular or have more mana veins. Would it make me stronger?"
[Affirmative. However, your skill level is too low for that. You must max it out first to have something close to what you are thinking.]
Kai sighed and willed the screen to disappear, and it did.
He then looked forward as he saw Luca getting in stance as a spiral of fire and ice elements appeared around his hand, spiraling until his elbow, and Luca punched the red bag, making it swing 6 times.
Luca muttered mockingly, "Still cannot catch up to the icy princess."
Kai was one of the few that heard him because of his perception being high.
Kai walked up to the red punching bag in front of him and also entered a stance he saw in a TV commercial and punched the bag with all of his might, even straining his arm because he did not know how to throw a straight punch.
And yet the bag swung 5 times, just like Nova.
Kai stared forward with a smile.
Tian Qi cleared his throat and spoke, "Alright, all of you are elite students. Your tags should change. Also, you should look in your pockets."
Tian Qi's body turned into sand and disappeared, leaving nothing but a small pile of sand that was blown away by the wind.
Kai pulled out of his pocket a small ID like card. It was the same one he was given to go to the buses, but it had changed.
Kai was internally surprised about his credits, but before he could think of much, he saw Tian Qi reappearing from the sand itself and he said, "Well, right, I forgot to tell you, but you will need to walk to the academy by yourself. It is only 42 km from here."
And once again his body turned into a lump of sand that disappeared.
Kai looked at the back of the card that showed a red arrow and a larger blue dot in the distance with many lines and things around it.
Kai mentally said, "There were meant to be 4 tests. One was hidden, that was meant to be the sleeping gas, I guess, and this one is about strength. So the next one should be speed, right?"
Kai did not hesitate and spun around to check as the blue arrow spun with him. Then he aimed it at the academy and placed it in his pocket and entered a runner's stance.
Kai took a deep breath.
Luca saw this and realized what the test was about. Elena was already running, a quickly melting ice trail behind her.
Kai's body launched out first, followed by Luca and lastly Nova, while Elena was far gone, leaving a trail of just wet sand.
Kai's body was barely trying, while both Nova and Luca were doing their best just to keep up with him.
Kai started moving properly at nearly 50 km per hour. He was smiling as he remembered the first ever quest was to run at this exact speed. It was so hard in his mind, now he was doing it like nothing.
And he was even faster.
Kai's body blasted forth with full speed, reaching 79 km per hour. Elena was next to him, and he said, "Well, hello there."
Elena did not answer him and completely ignored him.
Kai sighed and mentally said, "System, if I activate mana control, I get enhanced everywhere, right? With my level, by how much?"

Kai mentally activated mana control as his status changed.

Kai smiled and grabbed the card out of his pocket, corrected his track, and felt his body speeding up even more.

He was actually faster than Elena.
After a few hard and long minutes, Kai stopped in front of a massive white gate with nothing behind it nor around it.
Kai smiled tiredly as he looked at two things at the same time.

Kai also looked at the rewards, which were literally one of the best.

Kai took a deep breath as he was still tired and looked around and saw Elena and two very tired Nova and Luca.
Tian Qi said, "First of all, good job on realizing this. This is mostly for Kai because he was the first and the fastest, so that is another 2500 for number one, while Elena gets 1500 and the rest 500 points. You all pass though."
Kai saw his card increasing credits with a smile.
Tian Qi spoke again and said, "Next up is you will fight beasts, many of them, so enjoy, and tell me the weapons or things you need."
Kai asked for a sword and katana that he strapped on his back above the green robe he was wearing. As he unsheathed the long sword, suddenly in a flash of light all of them disappeared away from each other, split up.
Kai heard the distant roars of beasts that made his heart shake in fear and excitement at the same time.
