Chapter 47 - Chapter 47: The Incomprehensible Voice

Fang Yu was certain that he had heard a voice.

And that sensation had felt exactly like receiving a mental transmission through the Psychic Element.

After searching carefully, he locked onto the source of the sound, it was definitely that statue.

However, no matter how he looked at it, the statue did not resemble a living being.

Had it somehow gained sentience?

Impossible. There had never been such a case. If it were truly a hidden lifeform, other mages would have noticed it long ago.

There was a considerable flow of people here.

In a place like the Hunter's Union, high-level mages could be seen everywhere.

A wild creature wouldn't be able to hide. This statue had been placed here for at least a hundred years.

Could it be…

Because of the ice orb, emitting some unique aura, causing a reaction between the two and triggering something?

A short while later.

After the voice disappeared, Fang Yu continued observing.

He watched for some time but still discovered nothing. It was just an ordinary statue, made of very common stone.

An inanimate object like this should not be capable of communication. That was basic knowledge, unless there truly was a lifeform sealed inside it.

"Let's leave it at that. I still have something to take care of, so I'll be heading off."

"You don't need to overthink it. A Demon Tide isn't something you need to worry about. Even if that legendary Ice-elemental being were to revive, our mages would be able to deal with it."

Teacher Zhang said with a smile.

Ever since the city breach incident, the city had long since set up extensive defenses, specifically to guard against the revival of that Ice-elemental being and a forced assault on the city.

"Alright, thank you, Teacher Zhang," Zhou You said.

Fang Yu also thanked him. After exchanging farewells, Teacher Zhang left, leaving only Fang Yu and the other three standing there, looking at one another.

"So, are we going back to play whack-a-mole?" Zhou You asked.

"Not today. We can do it another time," Fang Yu said. "I suddenly remembered I have something to take care of…"

"Is it urgent? We could grab dinner before you go…"

"It's urgent!"

Zhou You and the others had originally planned to invite Fang Yu to dinner that evening, but he left in a hurry. In the end, they simply went their separate ways.

By the time they realized it, they hadn't even gotten Fang Yu's contact information.

If they wanted to find him later, they would have to wait until he enrolled at Pearl Academy.

After parting ways, Fang Yu headed straight for the Bingyuan County library, intending to look up information about Ice-elemental lifeforms and any hidden secrets related to the statue.

Unfortunately, even by nightfall, he hadn't found what he was looking for.

However, although he failed to uncover the information he wanted, Fang Yu did gain a deeper understanding of this world.

The history of this world could roughly be divided into two eras.

The Totem Era and the Magic Era.

The Totem Era was the period when humanity first emerged and survived by seeking shelter under powerful beings in various ways.

The Magic Era was when humans began to create magic and master magical abilities.

A simple division into two eras. Yet, due to certain special reasons, there were many gaps in this world's historical record.

For example, why did the Totem creatures collectively disappear? How did humanity evolve from seeking protection to ruling over portions of territory?

These were historical discontinuities whose timing remained unknown.

Although Fang Yu, having knowledge of the original story, understood part of it, the specifics would still require uncovering hidden Totems to fully restore the truth.

And what Bingyuan County experienced a thousand years ago was clearly another piece of history that people today had yet to fully uncover.

"There's still nothing about the statue!"

After leaving the library, Fang Yu felt disappointed. But driven by curiosity, he decided to go take another look.

Bingyuan County Hunter's Union. Park area. Beneath the Stone Giant statue.

By now, the sky had grown dark. The park was practically empty.

Fang Yu gazed at the statue under the moonlight and asked, "Were you the one speaking during the day?"

Chirp, chirp…

No matter how he listened, he couldn't understand the meaning hidden within it.

"Mr. Statue, say something."

Fang Yu tried to communicate with the statue.

However, unlike during the day, the statue gave no response at all.

"If you don't say anything, I'm leaving."

The statue remained completely unmoved.

Fang Yu fell silent. Could it be that his approach was wrong?

He recalled what had happened that afternoon when he looked at the statue.

At the time, the ice orb in his spiritual world had trembled and emitted a unique aura.

It seemed that was when he heard the statue's voice.

"Give me some reaction."

Fang Yu stared at the statue and, within his spiritual world, instinctively touched the ice orb.

He believed that his current state was already extremely similar to how it had been that afternoon.

Now, the aura of the ice orb began to spread, searching for that same sensation from earlier.

It seemed like there had been a rumbling in his mind??

Boom!!!!

The sound came a thunderous "boom" that made Fang Yu's scalp go numb.

But this sound clearly wasn't echoing in his mind or soul. It exploded right beside his ears.

He lifted his head, mouth agape, because the sky above seemed to have suddenly trembled.

Crack!

Then Fang Yu's attention was drawn back to the statue.

This time, the statue truly made a sound, but it was the sound of cracking.

Under his gaze, a fissure split the statue from top to bottom.

"Holy crap!"

As soon as Fang Yu shouted, the crack in the statue rapidly expanded. His eyes widened as he stared at the trembling figure, momentarily losing the ability to speak.

Damn it!

It actually responded?

What the hell is going on?

After a brief moment of silence, Fang Yu wanted to turn around and leave.

However.

At that instant, the fissure widened at high speed. The statue completely shattered, and a sudden mutation erupted.

The recent abnormalities among the snow mountain demons had already put the Bingyuan County military and the Magic Association on high alert.

Especially the mages of Bingyuan County, they had long since entered a state of combat readiness.

The Demon Tide ten years ago had severely wounded the county's vitality. It had taken tremendous manpower and resources from all sectors of the city to rebuild Bingyuan County. No matter what, they could not allow demons to breach the city walls again and cause further destruction.

In such a tense state, the mages were naturally extremely sensitive to any disturbances from the outside world.

Boom!

During this critical period, as a massive shockwave resounded across the sky above Bingyuan County, the taut string in many mages' hearts snapped with a sharp crack.

"Damn, is the Demon Tide attacking the city?"

"Why wasn't there any warning?"

"Look on the bright side, maybe it's just an earthquake."

"What exactly happened?"

The sound was enormous. Not only the mages, but even ordinary people heard it clearly.

Everyone instinctively stepped out of their homes and looked around.

However, it was only that single massive sky-shaking sound. After that, there were no further abnormalities.

Bingyuan County Magic Association Headquarters, rooftop.

A middle-aged man in a gray suit stood there. He looked up at the sky, which appeared fractured like a shattered mirror, and fell into deep thought.

"President, what was that just now?"

The rooftop door opened, and a tall secretary hurried over anxiously. The disturbance had caused an unexpectedly large impact on Bingyuan County.

Even other regions had sensed a slight change.

The gray-suited President said, "Not certain yet, but it originated from within the city. Have people investigate and see where the anomaly occurred."
