Chapter 92 - Chapter 92: The incidents at Urtum IV

Thomas grit his teeth as he pushed his horse to its limits, his heart thumping more than ever before.

With one hand holding the vase he looked at the goat whose face was as close to them as it could possibly be, soon moving alongside him.

Its eyes locked with his as they held a stare.

"It's now or never." Thomas thought as he threw the vase to its body.

[Splash]

It shattered, also dowsing its fur in a black liquid that was oil.

"Now's the time." He pulled the noose rope making the horse stop immediately, and unbeknownst to him and luckily dodging the kick that was aimed at him.

"Hughes!!!!" He screamed internally as he raised his spear up and guided it downwards in a the same motion as he would a flag.

"That's it!…" Hughes muttered as he dropped the binoculars.

Down below the goat turned around just for Thomas to sprint past it as he rode towards the wall.

It grunted, now turning around again to chase its target, but it had already fallen victim to Thomas's schemes.

[Splash] Thomas threw the second vase at it covering a wider area.

"Now Hughes" He thought as if speaking to him directly.

[Bang!] It erupted in flames as the explosion from the cannon's impact set it ablaze.

"Yes he did it." Thomas thought with a face full of relief. "I had doubts but it looked like it worked." A smile of relief manifested on his face as he rode towards the wall moving past the carcasses of the other goats.

He looked up at the wall. "Good job, they look happy?

Well it's understandable..." He scoffed as he saw them flailing their hands haphazardly.

His face stiffened now realising those weren't gestures of happiness. "No it can't be-" He shifted his gaze towards the goat now far behind him.

He was greeted with a sight so unbelievable his jaws dropped, and the toothpick fell from it.

It was engulfed in flames yet running at him, A silhouette of red and black, and slowly the flames got absorbed into its body as it chased him down.

No scars, only burnt fur remained as the sole proof; proof of a failed attempt.

"The hell- no maybe it's from hell…" He looked ahead once more, now barely fifty metres away from the wall and still on the move he knew they were out of options.

"If it's like that then I should buy what little time I can and shift its target from the wall for as long as possible." Thomas thought.

"Lets make this coun-" [Thud] he couldn't finish muttering his words as he blacked out.

His eyes opened to the sight of his horse in the air, as was he — metres above the ground, he and his horse had been kicked up by the goat.

"Leader!!" Hughes screamed from the top of the wall, Thomas could hear them but this was one of the times he wished he couldn't.

His face was plastered with misery on his way down, snatched mid fall by the unloving embraces of the goats mouth longitudinally.

As it grinded down against his body slowly against his futile struggle, all the while still charging at the wall.

Tears flowed from his eyes as the sense of feel slowly went away from his body and he slowly gave up.

Eyes greyed out never to see light again.

[Baam] it hit the wall causing a tremble, through the entirety of that area, the wall finally gave in as it began caving in on itself.

Hughes and Vera tried outrunning the wall's collapse by foot only to fail miserably.

They became victim to its collapse, becoming part of the toll of that day.

From the town of Urtum those still evacuating watched as a piece of the empire's bastion crumbled.

Worries became reality, that which stood over thirty meters in height now left a pile barely less than ten, and standing above it was the heinous creature.

[Screech] A distorted cry filled the surroundings, one so aggravating that those in town had to close their ears lest they run mad.

Cries so loud it could be heard from many kilometres away, lasting for a while then gently subsided; it was the bleet of a goat distorted beyond belief.

What followed was chaos from those evacuating, there was no longer any doubt — the wall had fallen, the town unsafe.

The soldiers and guards now working together to make the process as fast as possible, with one of them closer to the wall looking back.

His eyes widened. "No- this can't be?!" He thought with frightened eyes and perspiration slowly forming.

What he saw left him frozen for a while, from the wreckage a silhouette was casted; the goat stood atop it with more joining in.

It's bleet had brought forth more of it's kind, with numbers in the tens, and with no hesitation they began their parade on the town.

The goat watching began backing up slowly then transitioned to a run; an attempt to flee; a pointless endeavour nonetheless.

He was one of the first killed by the goats who ploughed through the town, laying waste to the buildings and people in their path, slowly spreading out through the many streets.

Many ran, not many survived even the ones meant to guide joined in running from the terror of the ones that had invaded.

Soon enough not many were left, hardly any sign of life remained in the once vibrant town of Urthum, it had become a wasteland.
