Chapter 52 - Chapter 52 Back seat

For the next several moments, Yeuh did a comprehensive scan and Neural diagnostic using his abilities on Paul and did not find anything weird inside his body.

'So far it hasnt harm…' He paused his thoughts.

He, for a moment, almost convinced himself that this thing in him is good.

Getting off the bed Paul nodded towards Yeuh in silence and he exited the infirmary.

Shutting the door behind him.

Paul paused for a moment.

'Walk away...' he thought to himself, but against his own thoughts, he turned around and slowly walked back into the infirmary.

Yueh was silent as he watched Paul walk back in.

His heart beat slightly accelerating.

Paul did not immediately say anything, his eyes silently hovered on Yueh.

Taking a soft breath, he opened his mouth.

"I, kept my promise Yueh" Paul softly said.

Yueh did not reply for several moments.

Paul, however, did not wait for a response as he turned and exited the infirmary once again.

Yueh remained silent, standing in the same place.

His eyes were still staring at where Paul was standing.

After a long moment, in silence, he turned back to his instruments.

Picking up the scanner, he shut his eyes for a few moments.

His chest felt empty...

He put the scanner back in its place and pushed himself back into work. There was nothing else he could do other than work.

...

On Geidi Prime.

In the prism of silence.

Baron Harkonnen was seated on a throne in a dim hall.

The large hall was empty with only three people. It was cold, yet the temperature in the room was not low.

His eyes quietly hovered on Vorn, who had come to meet Baron Harkonnen.

"Greetings Baron Harkonnen." Vorn said.

"Senior Administrator Vorn, hope you had a safe journey here."

"Always" Vorn said.

"We are approaching you due to the permanent spice production blockage until you pay the fifty billion solari House Harkonnen owes House Atreides."

Baron nodded.

"The Guild requires stability. The fifty billion solari must be paid off immediately," Vorn said seriously.

Baron was silent for several moments.

"House Harkonnen wishes to pay it off and have the spice flow through the Imperium," Baron said, and Vorn nodded.

"But, we cannot impact the production output on Geidi Prime."

"We understand your worries, Baron Harkonnen."

"The Spacing Guild is willing to provide House Harkonnen fifty billion solari to be used solely to pay House Atreides what they are owed and to ensure stability of the Imperium," Vorn announced.

"And what are the conditions of this loan?" Baron asked.

"40% cut of the profits on Geidi prime until fifty billion solari until the debt has been paid off with interest," Vorn said.

Baron did not respond immediately.

His eyes fell on Piter, who was standing not too far away from Vorn.

Piter was silent only for a moment before his eyes flashed white, thousands of calculations compressed into a matter of minutes inside Piter's mind as he opened his eyes.

"Current profit margins is 20%, it is impossible to accept this."

Baron was silent as his eyes shifted towards Vorn.

Piter, on the other hand, watched this unfold.

His mind was already racing with thoughts.

'House Harkonnen... has low chances of making it through this, no matter what it does now, however, all calculations point to a single fact... House Harkonnen will take a major hit, and won't be able to recover for a long time,' Piter thought to himself.

'My time with House Harkonnen will be ending soon,' Piter thought as he began running calculations on how to successfully leave House Harkonnen.

In the end, he finally landed on the best method, but his attention was attracted by what Vorn said.

"Supplement the 20% short fall with the spice you have hidden from the Empire's eyes, either way. The Spacing Guild does not care how it is done."

Baron clenched his stone throne as he coldly stared at Vorn.

'The hidden spice... will cover the 20% but nothing will be left,' he thought to himself.

"House Harkonnen will consider the Guild's generous offer," Baron said, and Vorn nodded.

"Do hurry up and decide, delaying Spacing guild operations has its consequences, Baron," he said as he turned around and walked out of the prism of silence, leaving Baron and Piter behind.

Piter was silent for several moments as his eyes alternated between Baron and Vorn.

As if making up his mind, he stepped forward.

"Baron Harkonnen." Piter said.

Baron's eyes coldly flashed towards Piter.

"I have run the calculations..." Piter said slowly.

'He cannot look at me.' Baron thought as he quietly observed Piter, he felt it, Piter was different, his intuition told him that Piter had changed.

"All projections converge."

"House Harkonnen is quite frankly... defeated." Piter paused.

He wanted to say more, but he felt something piercing his throat.

Piters eyes widened.

'N--' the thought barely formed before his brain shut down.

Quietly, Piter de Vries, Baron Harkonnen's mentat, trained by the Bene Tleilax, ceased.

Baron watched with coldness as his body began to rise up using the suspenders.

"I do not speak to failures, Mentat," Baron muttered as he did not even give Piter a second glance, he felt disdain even mentioning his name.

He took a deep breath for a few moments before strongly exhaling.

"They want to crush me..." Baron mutterd, staring ahead in the large empty hall.

"But I won't be crushed."

'Shaddam, Mohiam, Vorn... Paul.'

'The Guild has leverage the Emperor is involved indirectly, Our hidden spice is no longer hidden, and House Atreides is actively closing in...'

'They believe the board is already fixed.' Baron paused for a moment as his mind raced.

'The board can be studied.'

'Structures can be mapped.'

'Mapped systems… can be used.'

He quietly spoke.

'It is time for House Harkonnen to take the back seat..." Baron muttered, but his eyes remained unyielding.

'House Harkonnen will comply.'

'For now'

...

On Arrakis, a few days soon passed by and at this moment.

Paul was inside the training room, having a duel with Gurney.
