Chapter 16 - TRAINING

"Where are we going, please?" I asked, my voice laced with irritation.

Devon did not look back. "We are almost there. Consider this your first lesson."

I groaned.

We had been walking for what felt like hours. The forest stretched endlessly in every direction, each cluster of trees blending into the next until I could no longer tell if we were making progress or simply walking in circles.

Twigs snapped beneath my boots, leaves brushed against my arms, and the occasional low-hanging branch forced me to duck.

Devon effortlessly walked ahead of me like none of it touched him.

I had woken up that morning with anticipation. The training had been my choice, and I had meant it, but the further we walked without explanation, the more the unease I had been carrying since the meeting with the seer settled back in. I still did not trust him. Whatever had shifted in my thinking over the past few days had not gone that far.

"Here."

His voice cut through my thoughts.
