Croft lay on the floor, his eyes darting wildly, tracking my movements. He was fully conscious, fully aware of his surroundings, but his body refused to obey his commands. The [Phantom's Touch] nerve strikes had effectively severed the connection between his brain and his motor functions. He was a prisoner in his own flesh.
I walked over to the corner of the room and picked up the suppressed pistol, checking the slide before slipping it into my waistband.
"Nia," I said, tapping my earpiece. "Target is neutralized. I'm securing the key."
"Copy that, Jake," Nia's voice came back, thick with relief. "The camera loop is down. You're live on the building's internal feeds, but I've scrambled your facial recognition. Just get the key and get out before his security detail checks in."
I walked back over to Croft and knelt beside him. I pulled the biometric retinal scanner from my tactical jacket.
