Chapter 229 - Chapter 229

Mia never expected to hear anything about the truck from Brian. That was supposed to be one of her family's biggest secrets, so how did Brian even know about it?

"What truck?" Mia shook off Brian's hand, clearly annoyed. "I don't know what you're talking about!"

"Mia, stop playing dumb!" Brian said urgently. "You know what your brother and the others are doing, right? Aren't they going to rob a truck?"

Brian had completely exposed himself. Mia stared at him in disbelief. "Brian, what are you talking about?"

"Take my advice and tell your brother and his crew to stop right now, otherwise their lives are going to be in danger!" Brian was torn. On one side was his Boss Dove, someone he absolutely didn't wanna betray, and on the other is Mia, someone he didn't want to see walk into his brother grave with flowers. How was he supposed to balance that?

Brian believed that as long as Toretto and his crew backed off, the Dove of Peace wouldn't push things too far.

"What life-threatening danger? What kind of nonsense are you talking about?" Mia shot back, her expression turning cold.

"Tell me first—did Toretto and his crew rob a truck?" Brian pressed. "The Dove of Peace is the branch president of the Teamster union. He's been investigating those robbers. If he finds out Toretto took his cargo, there's no way he'll let any of you off the hook!"

Mia's pupils shrank. The branch president of the Teamster union? That young man?

"So you already knew he was getting close to Toretto?"

"We didn't know for sure. The Dove is investigating—he don't wanna harm the wrong innocent people, but he also won't let thieves walk free!" Brian said helplessly. "I understand his methods better than you do, Mia. You can't beat him."

"Brian, you've been lying to me this whole time? You came to our shop just to investigate us?"

"Did I do anything wrong?!" Brian shot back. "You stole the Dove truck—wasn't that wrong from the start? Was he wrong for protecting those drivers and their cargo?"

Mia hesitated. Rationally, she knew he was right, but emotionally, she couldn't accept it.

"Let me go! You liar!"

"What did I lie about? I swear to God, my feelings for you are real!" Brian checked the time and his expression tightened. "Mia, we're out of time. Dove has already set everything up. If Dom and the others go through with this, they're walking straight into a trap. If you want them to come back alive, you need to come with me now and help me find them!"

Mia looked at him, conflicted.

Brian's voice softened. "Mia… you're the only one who can help them right now. Please. We have to stop this before it gets worse. Trust me one more time—I swear I'm not trying to hurt them."

Mia let out a long breath. Thinking about her brother's safety, she finally nodded. "Get in."

"Sir, Toretto and his crew have quietly left the race venue."

Jack watched the cars disappear onto the highway, then spoke into his radio. "I planted trackers on their vehicles. I've got their location."

"Well done! Jack, you passed your training day," Vincent said, already treating this like a hooked fish. He immediately contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to coordinate.

"By the way… what about Luca? Did he leave too?" Vincent asked.

"I saw him get into an RV with a beautiful woman. They haven't come out since."

"…"

Vincent went silent. He was busting his back on this case while Luca was… living his best life.

Inside the RV, things were a complete mess. Giselle lay limply on the bed, her figure fully on display, undeniably captivating.

"Luca… how long are you staying in Los Angeles?" she asked softly, turning toward him.

"How long do you want me to stay?"

"Can't you be a little more proactive?" Giselle teased. "What, you expect me to fly to New York to find you? I'm busy here."

"What do you do for work?"

"Finance, for a Mexican company. You?"

"I own a club in New York."

"A sports car club?"

"No, a private club."

Luca briefly explained, including the club's name. Giselle quickly pieced it together—no wonder he wasn't short on cash.

"Why not open one in Los Angeles too?"

"You planning to be my accountant?"

Giselle laughed. But once you stepped into her line of work, leaving wasn't simple. She knew too much about Braga. There was no way he'd let her walk away.

"Our company has a strict confidentiality policy," she said with a smile. "Leaving isn't exactly easy. But if I ever get the chance… I'll remember your offer."

[Bond: Friends]

[Unlocked: Seduction]

Luca thought to himself—won't be long now. Once Braga is dealt with, the club gets another rare card.

Right then, his phone rang.

Leon: "Toretto and the police have both started moving."

Luca: "Wait for me."

"I still can't get through."

On the way to find Toretto, Mia kept calling, but every attempt went straight to voicemail.

"They always turn off their phones when they're working," Brian said, growing more anxious by the second. If he still had FBI access, he could've tracked them instantly—but not anymore.

"Do you know where they went?"

Mia unfolded a map. "They stash their cars near a boiler factory and head out from there before dawn."

Brian nodded and stepped on the gas. Just then, the call he least wanted to see popped up.

The Dove of Peace.

"…Hey, Dove."

"Where are you? I don't see you. Where are Toretto and the others?"

"Dove, they've already started," Brian admitted. "I'm not sure exactly what they're planning yet, but I'm heading there now. I'll update you."

"Send me the address. I'm coming too."

"… "

Brian went numb. Was this really something the Dove needed to handle personally? The moment he showed up, Toretto's crew is finished.

"The situation's still unclear," Brian tried.

"The address," Luca cut him off calmly. "I'll have Leon come assist you. Otherwise, you can't handle an entire racer gang alone."

Brian swallowed. The security chief was on another level.

"…Alright. The address is…"

Under Mia's conflicted gaze, Brian gave it.

After the call ended, Mia asked, "That was your boss? You told him everything?"

"Yeah… nothing can be hidden from him," Brian sighed. "Better to be honest. Don't worry—I won't let Dom and the others get hurt, as long as they stop in time."

Mia covered her face. "I don't even know if I'm doing the right thing anymore. Can I still trust you? If something happens to Dom… I'll never forgive myself."

"I know what kind of man Dove is," Brian said. "If he didn't move against Dom immediately and even did business with him, then there's still room to fix this."

He exhaled slowly. "He hates people who steal his trucks, but maybe there's another way. Dom knows the underground scene in L.A. If he helps catch the real robbers, he might let him off. Maybe… they could even work together."

It was the only solution Brian could come up with. Whether Dom would accept it… that was another question.

Meanwhile, Luca was already on the road with Leon.

"Brian finally softened up," Luca said with a shrug. "That's more like him, isn't it?"

Leon nodded, recalling the past few years. "Back in New York, he never cared about any woman this much. So what now? You taking Dom out?"

"No need. I'm not some kind of devil," Luca said calmly. After all, that was an "immortal family." As long as Toretto lived, wiping them out wasn't exactly practical—and besides, if Dom's gone, who's handing out that invincibility buff?

"The police are already moving," Luca added. "We're not here to kill them… we're here to save them."

Maybe, just maybe, the fate of that racing family was about to change for good.
